Wearing the new Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in 23 Acid Green
I feel like in summer we should all get passes to go completely buck wild with our eye makeup, no matter what we’re doing or where we are.
I mean, we can do that now — wear whatever we want — but there are social mores, workplace policies and dress codes, and those are what the passes would cover. 🙂
Want/need to run to Trader Joe’s for an emergency box of Mango Bars, but you glance in the mirror and notice that oops! — you’re wearing bright yellow eyeshadow all over your lids? No problem, because you’ve got the pass.
When I started getting into eyeshadow in my 20s, I only wore two colors, brown or beige — unless I was feeling extra adventurous, in which case I’d spice things up with a soft seashell pink, haha.
Hello, change. My name is Karen.
The old 20-something me probably wouldn’t even recognize the 30-something me who groans like a brain-hungry zombie and makes grabby hands in the air when she sees bright products like the four new Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams in 23 Acid Green, 24 Yellow, 25 Pastel Blue and 26 Purple ($23 each).
“Brains! Brains! — No, I mean shimmer! SHIMMER!”
Please tell me you’ve experienced the nirvana that is the mighty Aqua Cream. If you have not, joy awaits.
These potted creams, which first appeared back in 2010, are some of my absolute favorite products in the Make Up For Ever line. They come in a ton of colors and finishes now, too — some for Eyes and Cheeks, others for Lips and Cheeks — and all of them have the same special ability.
Once you get them on your skin, they DO. NOT. MOVE.
Special evaporating oils help the pigments stick to skin, rendering them smudge-proof, waterproof and sob-proof.
Clockwise from the yellow pot on the lower left: 23 Yellow, 23 Acid Green, 25 Pastel Blue and 26 Purple
Seriously, you could have a nervous breakdown at an ATM machine, not that I’d know anything about that (“Holy crap, did you just eat my card?! A Windows blue screen — are you kidding me? FREAKING MICROSOFT!”), and your shadow would still look as fresh as a daisy.
So yeah. Love these things. 🙂
These four new summer shades, all of them for eyes and cheeks, might look a little cray in their pots, but babe, the second I got that first batch of swatches on my arm, I wanted to smear them all over my body like a technicolor tart (I suppose this is how some folks feel at Burning Man after one too many special brownies in the body painting tent).
To be blunt, they’re beyond bright!
Swatches from the left: 23 Yellow, 23 Acid Green, 25 Pastel Blue and 26 Purple

I like to take it a little easy with these pigments and find that a flat synthetic brush head seems to absorb less of the creams, although a brush with natural fibers should get the job done, too. To apply, I’ll grab something like the 249 Large Shader Brush, and sweep the product on my lids and just barely into the crease, blending out the edges quickly with a finger to sheer them out a bit.
Oh — it helps to work double time, because these dry really, really quickly. Even faster than I can gobble down a Mango Bar. 🙂
PRICE: $23 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora stores, Make Up For Ever Boutiques and also online

That purple looks awesome! The yellow is pretty pigmented too.

I agree with you! We should all be allowed to go buck wild with eye makeup in the summer lol.

Holy moly those are bright – but I love them on you! The acid green looks super awesome and the purple doesn’t even really look that crazy – its a great color on you!

I am so happy MUFE came out with a yellow cream shadow. I have their powder one in bright yellow and I love it. It looks very runway-esque when paired with their bright orange shadow and casual clothes. Yellow is my fave color because it reminds me of the sun and summer, and looking at it just makes me happy.
You look great in all 4 colors, it’s cool to see someone else besides me wearing bright yellow and working it!

I loooove the purple, I apply it in the crease with my #217 brush!

I love aqua creams, I may have to check out the yellow and blue. I don’t have any cream products that color.

YES to bright eyeshadow! These ones look great and sooo tempting to buy!
Also, cheers to going buck wild with our eyeshadow this summer. Everyone go all out! Cheers!

I want that yellow and acid green! These are going into my Sephora cart right away. 😀

Purple is the one ;). It looks uber sexy, yet very subtle!
I pretty much still do 50 shades of brown/beige/taupe when it comes to eyeshadows, this, while being very adventurous with the spectral range for my eyeliners ;). I like shimmery shadows, but dread the fallout. I have a cpl. of nice dark shimmer shadows from Bobbi Brown. I love ’em when i wear them, but getting to that point means being prepared to deal with fallout and most often, they go right back into the drawer!

Are those ever B R I G H T ! I have to say, if you *did* start smearing your body in technicolor – well, I don’t think anyone could even hold you accountable for it! 😛 With colours like that, us makeup addicts just can’t be judged for our actions.

I have never owned an Aqua Cream, and you’re making me really want one! Maybe when my client pays me…

Pretty, it’s like skittles for your eyes!!! 😀 I’m so sad that I STILL haven’t tried any of the Aqua Creams, though I LOVE their Aqua Eyes and Aqua Black–so I can only imagine how epic these are. Definitely need to try them!

These are amazing! 🙂

That green! I must have it.
I’m drawn to the purple too but I don’t think that it would suit me quite as much. They look like they’ll last a long time too!
Karen says
Hi Olivia,
Yes, these really do last a long time! They also make for great eyeshadow bases.
Nina says
I would like all 4 of them, thank you very much! LOVE!
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Hee hee! I can see you wearing the yellow to work and your boss going, “WOW!” 😀
Nina says

The Acid Green actually looks awesome on you! Someone would lock me up in a padded cell if I wore these, but you’re rocking them! 🙂
Btw, I’m sure you’ve said if you’ve read World War Z, but now I can’t remember. I just started it the other day and I’m about 1/3 through. Still a lot of story to unfold, but it’s been pretty readable so far. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Yeah, that book is good! I’m reading another zombie one right now called Warm Bodies. Have you heard of it? Three words: zombie love story.
Kim says
Oh, good! I haven’t made too much progress on it, but hopefully next week. 🙂
I remember you talking about Warm Bodies and the zombie falls in love with a girl after eating his boyfriend’s brains and absorbing his memories. Odd as it sounds, I like the idea behind that. 🙂 Do you like the book?
stalkthepostman says
“To be blunt, they’re beyond bright!” 🙂 Bah ha ha. You crack me up. Love the green!!! I only have one of these (a deep blue) but I might need to pick up some brighter colors for summer – if only to scare my boss.
shontay says
I bought all of these except for the acid green. I get around to that one eventually. I love these. I find, though, that they go on horribly over primer. I can use these on my bare lids with no problem and they last forever. Love them.
Mimi says
the acid green one is way awesome in person! i arm-swatched them all at sephora the other day:)
Bun Bun Makeup Tips says
LOL-ed at the part where you wanted to smear them on your body. You carry the yellow pretty well!
Natasha says
Those are some awesome colors! Not sure I could handle the yellow, but the green… I could wear that green… now to just earn some green so I can afford it!
Gwen @ Makeup Toys says
