What’s up, chicas?
How’s your Thursday been? My morning was kinda busy, but everything got better in the afternoon — basically after I spendt some quality time with the 12 polishes from Barielle’s All Lacquered Up fall nail polish collection ($8 a bottle).
Swatching and losing my mind to ’90s dance music (Tabs is gonna scratch me something serious if I play Set U Free by Planet Soul *one more time*), I got to thinking about all the interesting nail colors popping up this fall.
There have been lots of camouflage greens, concrete grays and darker-than-dark blues, yah?
For lacquer lovers who crave harder-edged, bad gal colors, this fall’s batch of punk rock girl- worthy shades just might be one for the history books.
My inner tough girl’s fallen hard for these babies, but what do you think?
The All Lacquered Up collection is heavy in the edgy shade department, and my favorite is Falling Star, a medium blue with copper glitter. It’s sassy and unusual, like the polish equivalent of Cyndi Lauper.
Are you feeling any of these colors?
Lava Rock
Blackened Bleu
Slate of Affairs
U-Concrete-Me
Get Mauve-ing
Polished Princess
Putt-E-On Me
Glammed Out Garnet
Pin Up
Out-Grey-Geous
Falling Star
Make It A Latte
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Falling star is my favorite among the collection. Actually I rarely buy nail polish in pink/nude (I only have 1 bottle of soft pink polish)…I don’t see the point of neutral polish: When I want to go soft/neutral, I just leave my nail bare.

I like most of those colors pictured. I definitely love Blackened Bleu, Lava Rock, Glammed Out Garnet, and Pin Up. Thanks for sharing!
Rebecca says
I *love* Polished Princess and Blackened Blue. And I’m all over the crazy colors coming out this season – I’m so bored with reds and pinks!

Jenna says
I really like Putt-E On Me. If it wasn’t for the shipping cost I would definitely get it. Do you happen to know of a similar color I could find at a store?
I hope all is well!
Music_Is_Freedom says
Falling Star is my favourite; it reminds me of the cover art from a Smashing Pumpkins album, oddly enough. (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness) I must track that polish down!
Amy says
Some of the glittery ones remind me way TOO much of the 90s… but I dig the darker shades.

I want it all!
hahaa, those colors are beyone gorgeous.
my favorites are Blackened Bleu, Polished Princess, and Make It A Latte.
I usually don’t go for brown polishes, but Make It A Latte both looks and sounds delicious!
Thanks for the swatches!
Meghan says
The more pics I see of this collection, the more I want it!
I definitely love when cosmetic companies try to out-do themselves in the color department. China Glaze especially seems to be trying to come up with new colors.
I think a lot of nail polish peeps are still giving Misa the cold should after their lackluster collection of 6 safe creams for fall. Berry, red, pink, purple… who hasn’t seen them before? Blue with copper sparkles? That’s what we’re talking about!! 😀

Make it a Latte and Falling Star are on my polish radar!
Fie says
Lol Make It A Latte is what MAC Dry Martini is striving to be! 😀 Very purdee.
Marce says
They’re all so pretty, I can’t decide on one…sigh.
Violette says
Jenna — Putt-E On Me is almost exactly the same as SOPI’s Metro Chic and China Glaze Channelesque, although Barielle’s formula can’t be beat.
Karen, I LOVE your blog. I don’t wear makeup, just nail polish, but you are influencing me to experiment, especially with eye makeup. Your tone is so positive and I look forward to checking for your updates throughout the day.
Thanks!
🙂
Karen says
Hi Violette,
What great recs! I was just going to suggest Metro Chic. 🙂
I’m so happy to hear that you’re trying new things. What looks/colors are you liking?
Kate & Zena says
I usually love fall collections because the companies come out with darker, more jewel toned colors which 98% I will buy. I loved last years La Collection de France from OPI. I think I own every one of the polishes except for three that I didn’t want. Purples, blues and greens make me a very happy girl. I have a lot of pinks and reds so I also sorta want to whack my head on the desk when I want another one!
I need to clean out my nail lacquer drawer though and get chuck the ones I haven’t used in years (I have, like, four of those) or those I utterly despise/look horrible on me because they’re too warm. My drawer is full. I need room to buy or franken a wicked dark green (Dr. Frankenpolish is one of my favorite sites).
Ha ha, I think Zena will kill me if I play “Sparkling Diamonds” or “Children of the Revolution” from Moulin Rouge! one more time! I’ve been on a Moulin Rouge! kick.
Rae says
Oh my god — Lava Rock, Blackened Bleu, and Glammed Out Garnet are *gorgeous*! Thanks for the swatches, hon =)

I ordered Slate of Affairs, Putt-E-On Me and Get Mauve-ing! In fact, I just put Putt-E-On Me on my nails today! Very pretty, I love these shades! 🙂
Now I just need Chanel Jade….
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Yeah, I’m lusting over the Jade colors BIG TIME!
lo says
I don’t know about these… color-wise, they’re all really gorgeous. I love Falling Star (perfect for a Gator game!) but I feel like they’re all a little weird looking on the application. Like, the glitter looks rough or something. Maybe it’s just me?
Karen says
Hi Lo,
The only one that’s kinda gritty is Falling Star… the other glitter shades are pretty smooth.
Marisol says
oh dayum! I think I like almost all of them. Between you & Kelly (VV), I am wanting so many different nail polishes.
.-= Marisol’s last blog post… We Are God In The Chrysalis =-.
Karen says
Hi Marisol,
It’s been a HOT season for polishes!
I am just glad you got your paws on Lacome Declaring Indigo. That’s still my fave so far!
Fabienne says
Lava Rock and Blackened Bleu, even Polished Princess, Glammed Garnet and Make It A Latte rock my socks!
Ashley says
I was skimming through the colours until I realized… All of them are unique in their own glittering way. I really love Lava Rock but then again, I might just say I love them all!
Eru says
Love, love, love Make It A Latte!!! It’s the perfect fall color 🙂
.-= Eru’s last blog post… Guerlain Slavic Beauty: Bohemian, Romantic Nude, Russian Doll =-.
Karen says
Hi Eru,
I love it too — there’s something very Chanel about it, huh?
Sarah says
Oh, hey, I’m the only one so far that couldn’t decide and said I’d elaborate in the comments…
I like some of them, but the greys are just meh for me. I was really surprised to like the Make It A Latte, but I’m not sure I’d want it on MY nails, or if I just like it on some abstract, perfectly coiffed and dressed woman.
Do other people ever feel like they should match their nail polish to their outfit if its an interesting color? (I feel like pale pink and bright reds are almost nail neutrals).
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
Oddly, I only feel that way if I’m wearing purple nails. Green and blue, not so much!
gio says
Thanks for the swatches. Lava Rock is gorgeous but the others are very pretty too!

blackened blue and polished princess are calling out to me
they all look awesome on you! esp the falling star
Karen says
Hi Yadi,
I totally see you as a Falling Star kinda girl, too…
How’s your Friday going?
Michelle says
Wow, lotsa pretty colours! Love them!
Karen says
Hi Michelle,
I know, right?
Happy Friday!
Ali says
Sooooo pretty! I love love love them. Want every single one!
Lauren says
I think I’m the only person who doesn’t like Falling Star even a little bit. I think it’s because I don’t like wearing medium-shade blue, on my nails or in my clothing. I also don’t like the copper glitter with the blue.
Blackened Blue reminds me of Kotori from Zoya… and the Zoya one is cheaper ($6!). Blackened Blue might be a little more black but they’re so similar.
I like pretty much all of the other shades, though, with the exception of Slate of Affairs… it’s another medium-tone blue that just doesn’t appeal to me.
Happy Friday, Karen!
Heather says
Karen,
Where do you typically buy the majority of your nail polishes, online or in-stores? If in-stores, which ones?
Karen says
Hi Heather,
It’s about 50/50, both stores and online. Online I like direct from the retailer’s website; 8ty8 beauty is good for discounts, too! In-store I like Sephora, Sally Beauty Supply and small mom/pop beauty stores around my hood.
Sarah says
I love this Barielle collection. I actually bought Blackened Blue, Falling Star and Get Mauve-ing!
love emmmmm. im totally a daredevil when it comes to nail polishes! go big or go home!!!! 😛
amy says
My favourites are Lava Rock and Make it a Latte. I love vampy shimmery maroons and the brown colour is soooo yummy. It looks like melted chocolate and the shimmer gives it depth. I can’t say no to that.

make it a latte and lava rock are soooooooo my style for fall! quick question karen… where can i buy barielle?
Redhead says
Where can I buy Barielle besides online?
Janelle says
I need all of them O_O especially that green!
I personally dont bother matching my nail colour to the seasons, I just go with whatever I feel like 😀
Catherine says
Oooooh, how gorgeous! I am just not a fan of Falling Star… it looks way too cool-toned to be flattering on my hands and the copper glitter really throws me off, but Make It a Latte is certainly now on my list.

BrooklynShoeBabe says
IS U Concrete Me that shiny on its own or did you have to add a top coat? Also, how many coats did you have to apply? It looks good. Any grey or silver I’ve ever tried has always been too sheer.
BrooklynShoeBabe says
Fsalling Star is also awesome. I think my daughters (who are 2 and 4 and already following in their mommy’s nail polish loving path).

I love dark polish colours, and I love neutrals/nudes. What I haven’t learned to like (yet) are vivid reds and pinks. My small polish collection has nudes, deep blues and dark, metallic reds and pinks. And shimmery topcoats. I either go natural/nude or funky.
This collection looks lovely, it’s a shame Barielle isn’t sold in my country!

Karen says
Hi Knit_Tgz,
Vivid reds can look very classic — especially if you get a really shiny top coat. Do you guys have Seche Vite in your country? I swear it’s the best…
Morgan says
I just found your blog, and I’m lovin’ it!!! I’d wear all of them, except Slate of Affairs…. Actually I think I’m going to buy those other 3 tomorrow!
