Happy Valentine’s Day! ?
Um…yes, I do realize that it’s April, LOL! 🙂 But look at all the pink and red in this collection. It totes reminds me of Valentine’s Day.
It’s the new limited edition MAC Min Liu for MAC collection, and it’s a collab with fashion designer Min Liu, the gal behind Ms MIN.
I looked through the line’s Spring/Summer 2017 look book this morning, and this outfit with the white pants spoke to me…
I know that the pants are long for fashion’s sake, but seriously, this is me every. Single. Time I put on a pair of pants at a store. #shortpeopleproblems
The collection contains 10 pieces, and most of them are new. The only re-promote I see is Blacktrack Fluidline.
There are two $20 lipsticks, two $18 Lipglasses, a $29.50 Eye Shadow X 2 Duo, a $40 Pearlmatte Face Powder, a $26 Cream Colour Base, a $35 Makeup Bag and a $52.50 Brush Bag with three short-handled brushes.
The launch arrives April 20th online and in stores (available through June 1st).
Trendy tassels
First things I noticed were these trendy tassels! They remind me of earrings. I thought they might get in the way of applying the lip products (no likey fringe in my gloss, please), but they don’t, yay!
FYI: hot pink shadow and hot pink lips totally work
I’m surprised by this collection in a very good way. On a whim, I swept the hot pink eyeshadow my eyes (it blends beautifully) and the hot pink lipstick on my lips, and lo and behold — they look good together!
I’d always thought that hot pink lids and lips would go over the top, but I don’t think these do. This combo works!
But it doesn’t exactly work with red blush…
I was totally on board with the hot pink lids/hot pink lips thing until I popped the red Cream Colour Base on my cheeks… Basically, All Year Red is SO pigmented, and when I add it to the mix, I feel like I’m wearing way too much color for any sane person (at least in the middle of the day).
So the moral of the story is this: if you’re going to wear pink on your eyes and lips, consider keeping your cheeks bare. Better for balance, methinks.
Chunky silver glitter
By the way, if you were thinking that the silver glitter in the Fortune Duo looks chunky in the pan, it is, and it also flies all over the place (if you look closely, you can see it around my lips) when you try to blend it. My advice? Just accept your glittery fate and go with it.
All Year Round Cream Colour Base is a yellow-based red
And something about it doesn’t look quite right on my cheeks. When I wear it, I look like I have a really bad cold. Maybe the yellow tones make it look too “real” on me (I’m an NC42, by the way). I dunno, but I think I’ll be sticking to my blue-based reds for blushes instead. *shrugs*
But this collection is all about lips
And I think you can safely skip the hot pink lippie. The red matte lipstick (Dynasty Red) and both of the Lipglasses (Peach Blossom Pink and Fortune Red) are gloriously smooth and pigmented. I think they’re both lovely, but hot pink Peach Blossom Pink Lipstick gets a big “nuh-uh” from me. It catches on every one of my lip flakes and looks dry, dry, dry.
I love the color, but that’s not enough this time.
I haven’t had a chance to try the Pearlmatte Face Powder yet, but I hope to in the next few days!
What do you think about wearing hot pink and red together? Too artsy?

That’s a whole lot of pink and red! But that’s a good thing, right? I am digging the dynasty red.
Plenty of times I have worn pink blushers with cool toned red and no, I didn’t look anything overboard.
The tassles are so pretty!

I like the tassels, too. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a MAC collection with them on the caps.

A cool toned red is something I wear a lot when I have color on my eyes, just a wash of it, because it looks the most natural on me. Have not paired it with hot pink yet though, that is not my color.

Cool toned reds are the best! Love them.

I agree with you on this, there has to be balance. Can’t have pink lids, lips and red cheeks, IMO. But, I often pair nicely flushed cheeks with red/ berry lips and most of the times bare lids with just truck load of mascara.

Hi Eesha,
I love the look you described! So much color but without too much effort. My kinda makeup. 🙂
Eesha says
I always like my makeup to look effortless and quick, otherwise I would end up spending whole day in front of my vanity!

Sigh… Me in my twenties could wear that, but now I’m looking for something different. Don’t mean that I avoid colour, but it’s either lips or eyes and I tend to go more natural. This collection isn’t my cup of tea in its entirety but I like Pink Blossom Pink and will check that one out xx
Karen says
Hi Eleni,
It’s a beautiful pink, but you may want to prep your lips beforehand as it tends to look textured.
