OK, it’s hot…
It’s so hot in hurr!
Uncomfortably hot.
So hot that it makes you stop and consider whether you really need to cross the street when you’re out walking and the other side of the street doesn’t have any shade.
So hot that your fuzzy little caterpillars, also known as your brows, are at risk of severe heat exposure — also known as attending Sweat Fest 2014.
So, tell me, what are your go-to brow fillers for painfully hot summer days? I’m curious! What are your best-of-the-best holy grail brow pencils, powders, gels, etc. for hot and/or humid weather — the products you use to keep your fuzzy little caterpillars filled, full and happy.
I’m asking partly because, as I was looking through the pics from my birthday last weekend, I realized, “DANG! MAC Fluidline Gelcreme held up REALLY well.”
In that pic up top I’m wearing shade Deep Dark Brunette ($16), and that was taken about 14 hours after I first applied my makeup, after many hours in 95-degree weather, yet even my fuzzy caterpillar’s outer tail area, which is often the first to go, remained full and intact.
Great stuff for long days and extremely hot weather. It’s also versatile, in that you can opt for a more natural, or a dramatic brow look, and easy to use once you get the hang of it.
Yay for flexibility! 🙂 I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a new/better brow filler for summer.
How about you? What are your holy grail hot weather brow products? — the things you can’t/would rather not live without when it gets hot in hurr.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. I feel like the luckiest girl in this condo right now! (NOTE: I am currently the only girl in this condo right now, but that’s neither here nor there.)
Thank you very much for your sweet birthday wishes here on MBB and the social media-verse. You didn’t have to do that, but I’m glad you did…because it was awesome. Double scoops and waffle cones for everyone! 🙂
Agata says
Hi Karen,
To be honest I haven’t had any problems with my brow products staying power in hot weather. Recently I have been using Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo and I really like it.
I am glad you enjoyed your birthday and that ice cream 🙂
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I’ve tried that brow powder before and liked it. Have you tried her clear brow gel? It is expensive but is seriously the best one!
Smita Roy says
Hey Karen, The sushi surely looks yum 🙂 hope yu had a great time for your birthday..Regarding the brows, thankfully I am blessed with good natural brows so only filling them up with an eyebrow powder works best for me even in highest temperatures…blessed rite 😛
Karen says
You lucky girl! I over-plucked my brows in the ’90s, so I have a couple bald spots in the arches. 🙁
Icequeen81 says
To be honest I have been using brow powder for just 2 or 3 months for the first time. I don’t really see that it really stays.
There are days i see my brows looks flawless some days no , so I think is time thing to perfect it.
Karen says
Hi Icequeen,
I’ve noticed that if I accidentally get my sunscreen or moisturizer up in my brows first that it can mess with the wear time. Do you comb through your brow hairs first to make sure that there’s nothing in there? That might make a difference.
Icequeen81 says
probably that can be the problem. I don’t always comb,
I’m still having problem to make the shape flawless, it looks kind of messy sometimes
Karen says
OK, I have that problem too. One thing that really helps is to look down into a mirror. For some weird reason it’s easier to see if your brows are even that way, go figure. Do you have a cell phone with a camera? Take a quick selfie. That also helps too!
Bella says
Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil. the Anastasia Brow powder duo tends to disappear on me in oily/sweaty conditions.
Karen says
Hi Bella,
I love that one too. It’s my go-to pencil for when I’m in a hurry. 🙂
Erin says
I don’t use a lot of brow product regularly. Only if I’m doing a stronger eye look. When I do, it’s in powder form. That sushi is looking awesome!
Karen says
It was delicious!
kirsten says
The Anastasia Brow pomade works wonders for me!
Karen says
Hi Kirsten,
I haven’t tried that yet. Is it like a gel for the brows?
Natalie says
For rough conditions I’m all about MUFE aqua brow. That stuff is budge proof in heat, sweat, water, you name it. Happy belated birthday Karen!! I hope you had a great one 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Natalie!
ericca says
I agree with you Natalie! The MUFE aquabrow is waterproof, sweatproof, summerproof.
Amy says
I got roped into buying some eyebrow powder at European Wax Center (I had been using elf with bad results) so I thought what the heck…it is great!! And I live in southwest Florida where it’s humid almost all the time. Sometimes I will lock it in with some clear mascara but most of the time I just do the powder and it’s awesome! Now whenever I have naked brows I feel like I look sick. Haha. How did we ever get through the 90s with our baked brows and bronzing faux pas? No highlighter! Brown lip liner and clear gloss! I’m getting the vapors just thinking about it!!!
Karen says
Hi Amy,
Seriously! My brows were so thin in the ’90s! Looking back, they might’ve been a little too thin — I looked surprised in most of my pictures, haha. Did you ever do dark plum lip liner, frosty silver lipstick and clear gloss? I’m totally guilty of that look. EEK!
Jen says
Karen, always looking radiant, love checking out your new ideas, thanks!
Ps, where is your fabulous necklace from?! Love it!!!
Vanessa C says
First off, happy belated birthday! I saw your free ice cream post on Insta yesterday <3
Last month, I went to Jamaica and knew I needed something to keep my eyebrows looking ah-mazhing all day. MUFE's Aqua Brow did me justice! This product lasted me during swims in the ocean!
But in NY, I have been alternating it with Anastasia's Dipbrow. Last weekend was pretty steamy, and after wiping my forehead with my hand, I still had eyebrows. Success!
Karen says
Thanks Vanessa!
I’ve worn that product before and like it a lot. What brush did you use to apply it?
Tracy says
I’m on the East Coast (humidity city) so I rarely want to be outside but when I do decide to embrace the horror and venture out this combo for no budge brows works for me. I prep my brows with a wax (I use the Milani Pencil), outline with Anastasia Brow Wiz, and then fill in the majority of the brow with Anastasia brow powder. I then set everything with the $3 Elf Studio Makeup Lock & Seal. Again, this works for me but I’m sure there are one product wonders out there I have yet to discover.
Kiss & Make-up says
Oh it is hot in hurrrrr too! Even on the mountain we’re almost getting 30 degrees celsius, wooh! I haven’t changed my eyebrow routine though. I still use my cheap ass e.l.f. eyebrow gel and powder duo. Works just fine and doesn’t melt 🙂
sarah says
Happy Birthday! I like to use Maybelline Define A Brow to outline and fill then add Anastasia brow powders then set it all with Billion Dollar Brows brow gel. This last on me for quite awhile. I sweat alot at work and it gets me through. Although it doesn’t last 24 hours I’m sure. Works for me. Would love to try Anastasia dipbrow or the MUFE auqua brow.
Karen says
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Sarah!
Fancie says
I’ve been loving my Anastasia dipbrow pomade and brow gel lately!
Maria J. says
I really think that the ABH Dipbrow Pomades will be great for Humid weather, but my personal favorite is the brow gel. What I do to prep my brows is use Too Faced Shadow Insurance, then Use Milani Clear Brow Wax, Fill them in with the ABH Brow Wiz, then finally set them with the ABH Clear brow gel and they stay put the WHOLE day. I live in a humid city & state, so these are the products and this is my method I use for my brows for more warmer weather months.
Karen says
Hi Maria,
I gotta give you props for your dedication to your brows! That sounds like a combo that will not quit. I like the idea of layering the brow wax with the gel; gotta try that soon. 🙂
Nicole - Beyond the Pale and Freckled says
I’m in the midst of testing this! There’s an oh so sexy picture on Instagram (paleandfreckled) of me sweating buckets with the MAC fluidline in Redhead on my browand the regular brow set in Show Off on the other. My brow hair is a very light blonde naturally so I need color up in there every day for them to be visible. I have a weird patch that sweats 24/7 hot or cool weather and brow products always fade there first (combined with being oily it’s a real mess!). Tinted brow geeks generally fare better since they’re not exposed as much unless I’m sweating puddles from working out. Just placed an order for the MAC waterproof brow set and I’m eager to try it out. 😀 So far the only way I can guarantee no fading is using an eye primer in my brows! So yeah, I’m rather passionate about brows. 😉
Karen says
Gotta love the eye primer trick in the brows! Which one are you using at the moment? I’m still stuck on NARS Pro-Prime.
Nicole - Beyond the Pale and Freckled says
Haha, brow gels not geeks. Thanks autocorrect!
Amy says
(One day I’ll figure out how to respond to your comment without posting a new one).
Plum liner, silver lipstick and clear gloss? I think you just described my entire working experience at VS Beauty in college. Except they used to sell silver (and I mean SILVER) lipgloss! Oh. My. Goodness. Every way-too-fake baked girl at the University of Kentucky was wearing that in JANUARY on Saturday night with a white or black sweater and purple eyeshadow. Were we trying to channel the TLC “Waterfalls” and “creep” looks? I mean really when we looked in the mirror were we saying “heck yeah I’m looking so T-Boz right now!”???? Bwahahaha.
Karen says
No worries, Amy! 🙂 Haha, I forgot about the purple eyeshadow. I rocked that too back in the day. Aren’t you glad cell phone selfies weren’t a thing back then? I would’ve looked a hot mess, I’m sure.
kwmechelle says
I’ve been wanting to try the Anastasia dipbrow pomade for a while. It’s all the rave in the YouTube world right now. But I’m trying to control my beauty spending habits. Currently, I use my brow crayon from MAC. To give it some staying power in this east coast humidity, and the oils from my hair that rub my face when I wear it down, I “lock” it in place by spritzing lightly with my new Ben Nye Final Seal spray. I swear, nothing on my face budges when I’m wearing that stuff.
I’m not the kinda gal that wears a full face of makeup often but I wear eyeshadow nearly daily, and on the days when I up the ante and wear a full face, this stuff keeps even my brows in check. Mind you, it does contain alcohol and some with sensitive skin may not appreciate that. But it doesn’t aggravate my skin. Also, it has a minty-like mouthwash smell that dissipates rather quickly after it’s sprayed.
And it’s SO affordable! Thinking of looking into some palettes from this line. The brand continues to impress me. And happy belated, dude! 🙂
Karen says
Thank you for the birthday wishes! That Seal Spray sounds interesting. I haven’t tried Ben Nye although I’ve heard great things about the Banana powder. Have you tried that product yet?
kwmechelle says
I do have the Ben Nye powder in Topaz. It’s incredibly, finely milled. I use it mostly to highlight when I use concealer under my eyes. However, it works as an all over powder as well.
It kinda feels like a luxury powder, IMO. A small bottle of the Final Seal costs about $5 online (minus the S&H). It gives makeup a matte finish….and this oily girl is here for that! And it extends the wear-time if my foundation. 🙂
Karen says
Ooh, I haven’t heard about that one. I’m always hearing about Banana…must investigate! 🙂
And thanks for the info on Final Seal. I love me some glow and shine, but I’ll take matte, too.
Domestic Goblin says
I really like the Shu Uemura H9 hard brow pencil.
Karen says
I’ve heard great things about that pencil! Do you use anything in addition to the pencil, like a brow gel or a powder?
Domestic Goblin says
I personally find that there is no need for any other brow products when I use this pencil. It’s supposed to only “release colour pigment when it interacts with the oils in the brow hairs” 🙂
Vanessa says
Hmmmm I may have to try this gelcreme….
Karen says
Do it! I’ve been wearing it a lot lately and I love it. At first it might be kind of hard to get used to because the color is so strong, but with a light touch and some practice it’s all good.
Airinosaurus says
I fill my brow with my usual powder/pencil and seals it with elf clear brow gel mascara. It stays put the whole day! Cheap and works!
Doreen G. says
I swear by Anastasia Dipbrow pomade!
Looks great and stays on until you wash it off!!
Katie says
Guuurl, your brows are like steel – they always look indomitable. As for long-wearing brow products, I still stand by my Anastasia Brow Wiz (especially, as you noted above, when applied over dry, un-moisturized skin). In the past, MAC Eye Brows (the super-skinny, twist-up pencil) has lasted sweaty, sweaty workout sessions. Pencils tend to last longer than powders on my oily, sweat-prone skin.
Happy birthday Karen and Tabs!! I’ve grown up with your blog the last five years – it’s kept me sane since I stumbled over it my first year of college and it still gives me the biggest smiles. You two REALLY don’t look any older. As a matter of fact, you two found the Fountain of Youth, hmm? I wouldn’t put it past Tabs…
Nicole - Beyond the Pale and Freckled says
Karen, I’ve been liking Too Faced SI for it (I am trying to finish TFSI in Lemon Drop but that leaves a little color/shimmer tangled up in the hair). Also a winner for me is LORAC Behind the Scenes primer. 🙂
Esther says
Hi Karen,
Collistar professional eyebrow pencil!! Sooo good, stands heat, oceans;) and swimmingpools ALL DAY LONG! But i’m not sure if you can buy it in the US…Collistar is a big Italian brand, hope you can find it, it’s for sure worth it to give it a try!
