The Lancome Ultra Lavande Collection for Spring 2011: Now THAT’s a Lot of Purple

January 19th, 2011 by Karen 47 Comments

lancome ultra lavande

It’s time to bust out your lighter and sway back and forth, because Lancome’s new spring makeup collection is a regular Prince!

As in Purple Rain. 🙂

Just how much purple are we talking about here? Well, if you crammed a thousand Prince impersonators, all of them wearing sparkling purple suits with matching ruffled shirts, into one HUGE room, that would be less purple than Ultra Lavande, Lancome’s spring release of new and repromoted items for eyes, lips and cheeks.

Lancome invoked the ’70s for the product names, and some of them are great (Disco Silver and Le 54?). I don’t know though… Doesn’t the promo pic remind you more of the ’80s than the decade before? Check out the model’s Brook Shields brows and the blocks of color on her eyes. I mean, she could pass for one of those jungle girls from Hungry Like the Wolf (or an extra on Dynasty).

When I saw these pics, my first thought was, “This is a purple version of LM’s Silk Road.” Heck, there’s even a dash of gold on the eyes.

Butterflies Fever Ultra Lavande Blush, $40

Color Design Eyeshadow Quad in Ultra Lavande, $42

Ombre Magnetique Long Wearing Shadow in Disco Silver on the top, Ultra Lavande on the lower left and Disco Gold on the lower right

Le Crayon Khol in Ultra Lavande, $24.50

Lipsticks from the left: L’Absolu Rouge in Lily Rose ($29), L’Absolu Rouge in Daisy Rose ($29) and French Touch Absolu in Berry Rose ($35)

From the left Color Fever Gloss in Ultra Lavande, Rose Ballerine and Beige Ballerine (each $26); Le Vernis Nail Polish in Violet Groove and Le 54 ($19 each)

The collection’s available now at Lancome counters and lancome.com.

What do ya think? Too much purple or not enough?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I do love purple, but the only thing grabbing me is the nail polishes. I’ll have to check them out.

I’m psyched that purple is so big for spring since it’s my never-fail color. Yesterday I did a purple and peach eye that I think I’ll be revisiting frequently next season!

That’s a hella lot of purple; interesting that both Lancome and Lauder were so heavy on this shade for spring. The Lily Rose lipstick is gorgeous…I might have to take a closer look.

LOVE this range! Purples really embrace the freshness and feeling of revival that is Spring. The Butterfly patterned powder really is beautiful.

Purples look great on green and hazel eyes as they serve to accentuate the green pigments.

Lancome have got it spot on this season!

Wow, soooooo pretty! Love everything, but with Lancome’s archaic animal testing practices I won’t be buying. Can’t believe people still buy from brands that use animal testing, it kind of appalls me to be honest.

Lucie, what “archaic” testing practices are you talking about and where are you getting your information from? All major brands have the same policy today. They only test when required by law. Lancome hasn’t tested on finished goods in years, the same as every major brand.

Not a big fan of Lancome in general (I have many issues with them), but that electric purple shade they have in different forms – in the palette, as mousse e/s and kohl – looks stunning.

But I have kind of outgrown my fascination with vivid purples and violets. I still have my go-to fixes (Nars Jolie Poupee, Mac Violet pigment and Milani Shock) but that’s it. No more.

Gurrrrlll, you know I LOVE me some purple. I have it on today. It was the color of my room in HS. My bag is purple. I’ve contemplated buying purple shoes… yet it matches with nothing. In any case, that blush is to die for, and the collection as a whole wins my heart. Can’t wait for your review!

Wow…I’m a fan of purple, but that’s a LOT of lavender, lol! I’ll have to see it in person to decide if I can handle that much at once. Plus, I still need to get some mileage out of my Estee Lauder Surreal Violet palette from last Fall!

I love purples on my nails, so I’ll probably check out the polishes. I can’t really pull off purple elsewhere on the face – unless you count Urban Decay Rockstar eyeliner, which reads more plum on me.

Disco Silver, I love you. Um, yeah, that’s a lot of purple. Good call on the Prince reference and it also made me think of the Michael Keaton Batman when Kim B is “dancing” on the roof with Jack Nicholson’s Joker. “… and PURPLE. I looooooove purple”. Still my favorite Bats. 🙂

On a side note, I asked the Hubs to check out the Hello Kitty promo pic in Sephora yesterday and he busted out laughing and then gave me a horrified look like “WAIT! You’re not thinking of putting a bow like that in your hair, are you?”. I assured him that I was not.

There is totally no such thing as too much purple (well, I mean, there is, but it’s usually perpetrated by little old ladies who carry handbags full of string and loose change and take forever in front of you at the grocery store line). I don’t really own anything by Lancome, but I think I’m gonna after this collection! The blush and the gold and purple cream shadows are especially exciting-looking. I’m digging the lipsticks, too – they look ultra-wearable. Nice change from, say, MAC’s incessant pr0n-star-pink lipsticks (how many versions of Pink Nouveau do we really need?!).

I really wish they had a “get the look” type thing someplace because I really want what she’s wearing on her lips. I was thinking it was the Berry Rose lipstick but maybe it’s that plus one of the glosses…I’d like to know for sure so I can pick it up for myself.
