Mostly Makeup-Related Friday Ramblings: The Urban Decay Basquiat Collection, New Makeup Setting Sprays, and Mom Brain (It’s a Legit Thing!)

April 28th, 2017 by Karen 21 Comments

urban decay basquiat collection final
I had some fun today with the Urban Decay Jean-Michel Basquiat Collection.

Hey, guys! Happy Friday. 🙂 I hope you’re having a good one so far. I hope it hasn’t been too hectic or stressful. Sometimes on Fridays I feel a mix of relief, because it’s the end of the week, and a little bit of…I dunno, anxiety? Just because I like to leave things in a good place for Monday. You know what I mean? I like to fix up my office a little and have a plan for what I’m going to do the next week, maybe take pictures if I need to or go to the arts and crafts store for props.

I also like to do a little housecleaning if I can get to it, just so that I don’t have to think about it over the weekend, and I can actually, maybe relax.

So even though I’m super excited that it’s Friday, it’s tinged with slight stress, LOL.

Anyway…

Today I started testing some new products from Urban Decay. They have a new collection out called UD Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Yup, inspired by the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. That’s his artwork on the packaging.

I saw the neutral Gold Griot Eyeshadow palette and thought, “Girl, I need to get that on my lids ASAP,” so I’m wearing it.

I’ve got a warm brownish red in the crease (I used reddish brown Anatomy Glide-On Eye Pencil as a base), a bronze lid and a soft navy cat eye flick. I’m also wearing the UD Gallery Blush Palette and two of the collection’s lipsticks, warmish brown Epigram and purplish pink Exhibition, mixed together.

I’m thinking about throwing on some glitter later to take it up a notch if we go out to dinner (we’re thinking pizza). 🙂

I’m really liking the collection so far. The shadows are a breeze to blend.

I’ll have more pics and details soon.

Oh! Guess what I did with this Urban Decay Makeup Remover Spray.

Don’t laugh, but I dropped it in the same makeup bag that I keep all of my daily essentials in, and as I was doing a look with the MAC Oh My Banana palette the other day, I mistakenly tried to use it as a setting spray.

I sprayed it on a brush I loaded with the yellow shade from MAC Oh My Banana and tried to, like, apply it to my lids thinking that it would intensify the shimmer.

I was like, “Why is this acting so weird? Why isn’t it getting shinier?”

Um, gee, Karen, could it be because you’re using a makeup removing spray?

DOH!

And I didn’t figure it out until hella later. Seriously, mom brain is a legit thing.

Speaking of settings sprays, though, I’m excited to try a couple of new ones this weekend!

This first one is by Marc Jacobs, and it looks almost milky, doesn’t it? It’s called Re(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Setting Mist.

I’m also going to try this Kate Somerville one called UncompliKated Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray. It has SPF 50, which I think is super cool in a setting spray.

I’ll keep you posted.

What have you been excited about lately? Makeup or non-makeup-related ramblings are strongly encouraged. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have been dying for a new UD Collection, and this one looks like it might bring me back to life! I’m looking forward to seeing swatches of the rest of this!

Mom brain is totally a legit thing. And just like you I prefer to leave the office all tidied up for Monday, but as usually a urgent case came on to my desk at half past 4 and that kept me occupied way too long. So everything is a mess…

I’m curious to see how you like the green liner! I’ve been underwhelmed by it so far. I bought the new GlamGlow setting spray and it doesn’t seem to work as well as UD All Nighter.

      Hi Chelsea,

Ya know, I don’t think I’m crazy about it. Both the blue and green liners were just eh… The brown one though, WOW!

It looked almost olive-y on me. I love neon green on my eyes though.

Oh, I oh me it looked more of a straight up neon. I had to work it back and forth a few times though to get it to really show.

I didn’t try anything else! I think the fact that there’s some redness / purple in my eyelids (veins) made the color look a bit odd. It looked better with a white base.

It’s amazing how a neutralizing color on the lids can add that extra pop. Do you have a white liner around? You could try layering it underneath the neon green.

I used a Nyx white liquid liner pen underneath and it definitely helped!

Love the bronzy lids with the soft navy cat flick! Is this collection out right now? I guess I should have stopped in at my local Sephora on my way home from my run. (First one since I had that miserable chest cold/viral thing in March. Ugh. So hard getting back at it.)
Really hoping the Kate Somerville setting spray with SPF earns a good review. Fingers crossed!
We walked downtown for pizza last night! Dear Husband came home from work early and I was out in the garden weeding and he said, I guess you’re not making dinner tonight. How about we go downtown for dinner. After I cleaned up the tools and the yard, I got ready in 12 minutes! Chanel CC cream, RBR impalpable finishing powder, BB tinted brow gel, mascara and TF soleil lip balm.
Going to the Asian Art museum tomorrow. Hope you have a great weekend.

      Hey Tatiana,

Pizza is always a great thing (and so is being able to get ready in 12 minutes). How are you liking that CC cream?

I picked up a yucky head cold at the gym and have been miserable all weekend! Hoping to feel better soon.

I hope it’s a different cold than the one that made it’s rounds down this way. It went around my husband’s office twice and everyone who caught it was hacking and coughing for more than three weeks. Hope you’re feeling better soon. It’s so hard to be a mommy when you’re sick.
I picked up the Chanel CC cream in when I was in Europe (it was the only place I could find color 10). The tube is smaller than the US tube, so I’m not sure if the formula is different, too. I love it. It’s rather dewy, which works for my dehydrated skin. I find I can apply it with a damp brush or sponge and it’s sheer to light or with my fingers for more coverage.

Not a mum here but I’m in awe of mothers and their energy, even brains! I like the UD palette and you created a beautiful look. That Marc Jacobs Coconut Setting spray is amaziiiing! I use it many times a week and love it!

As for things I’ve been excited about recently, I’d pick booking my summer holidays back home, going to Aladdin the musical with family and make-up wise the new summer collections! Xx

      Hi Anita,

I’m still in the middle of testing it. The aerosol spray is pretty intense… It comes out like in like a puff of product! Very interesting. Will let you know more as I get to know it better.
