The New Urban Decay Loose Powder Has a Brush With Convenience, What to Eat With Your Veggies, and Distracted Waxing

September 17th, 2019 by Karen 12 Comments

A new way to get loose with Urban Decay

Do you ever skip loose powder because you don’t want to lug around an extra brush for touch-ups?

If so, I feel you… Also, Urban Decay’s new $34 Ultimate Brush Off Setting Powder might be of interest.

Bring your brush with ya

It comes with a synthetic flat-top kabuki brush attached to the lid, which makes it easy to dust a little on whenever and wherever you want.

It’s a demi-matte loose powder to set your makeup, blur pores and absorb oil and shine, and it’s available now at UD counters and online in five cruelty-free shades — Universal Translucent, Fair, Medium, Deep and Dark.

Speaking of new things… Well, new to me and my tummy!

Bolthouse Salsa Ranch Dressing is MAGIC. I picked it up at Target, and now I’m addicted.

bolthouse farm salsa ranch
A yummy, healthy snack

It’s funny to me that this is named “Salsa Ranch” because it isn’t spicy. It tastes like a blend of the best thousand island and ranch — a little tangy, a little sweet, and VERY tasty!

I like the Bolthouse dressings because they’re made from yogurt, and are consequently less calorically dense than most creamy dressings, so consequently I eat TONS of it, which I do with whatever vegetable I’m crushing on at any given moment. (It’s delish with snap peas!)

If you could use some extra motivation to eat your veggies, then you need what Connor calls “the pink ranch dressing” in your life.

OK, so I had a major upper-lip wax fail…

Please note that waxing your ‘stach while plumbers work on an underground water leak in your front yard is inadvisable. There’s a significant chance you’ll have low-grade anxiety because you don’t know if the plumbers will have to break open the concrete to access the leaky pipe, thereby causing the budget to skyrocket, and you could also end up with a sinkhole underneath your garage…

Needless to say, my nerves were SHOT last Friday, and I’m fairly certain my hair got more gray than usual over that 24-hour period.

So, I’ll say it again: DON’T WAX ANYTHING IF ANYTHING LIKE THIS IS HAPPENING IN YOUR FRONT YARD!

That said, for some lame reason I thought it would be a good idea, and I was so distracted that I accidentally ripped off a piece of skin on my upper lip while I was waxing. 🙁

On a positive note, I found out that Double Wear Foundation covers up scabs pretty well. 😐

Dagnabbit!
I’m wearing UD’s Ultimate Brush Off Powder in Universal Translucent, the UD Naked Honey Palette on my eyes and Laura Mercier Fresh lipstick on my lips.

I’m wearing it today… Doesn’t look too bad if I don’t point it out!

(You’re looking at my upper lip now, aren’t you? LOL!)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

OUCH! I have given up waxing – waaay back in my teens, and after having my mom torture me and my legs a few times, I gave it a go on my own. I have never been in so much pain. The fabric strips had become too soft and instead of a firm yank on the old hairs, the strips would stretch and OH WOW. My legs were black and blue….and still hairy!! Guess what? I started wearing foundation the other day. My first time ever and I don’t look awful! It’s the Loreal one in the flat tube, the “Glow” kind. It feels light and doesn’t look like much anything on my skin! That UD powder isn’t the “waterproofing” stuff they came out with recently, is it??

    Ack! Heal up soon, Karen!
The upper lip is also something I just tweeze now.

For a sec there I thought I read: Bolthouse Salsa Ranch Dressing isfrom MAC.

Girl, that sounds so painful! Good job covering it up though.

Also, love the Bolthouse dressings and the brand in general. They make some great pre-made drinks. The Vanilla Chai Tea is my jam. It’s made with soy milk and has a healthy amount of spice. For years I drank a glass of it with a half cup of Fiber One for breakfast. Now I’m in apple and cheese mode but I’m thinking of switching back to Vanilla Chai and cereal for fall.

Thank you for the lowdown on the UD loose powder. I much prefer loose powder and would like to use it all the live long day but the brush is a quandary.
I’m wearing one of their new Naked foundations and totes in love.

What’s the 411 on the underground water leak? We have a well since we’re in a rural area and I live in fear of repairs! So $$$$$$$$

Oh no! That must have been painful. So no waxing under stressful conditions! Good lesson to learn. 🙂

I like the design of this product. A built in brush is definitely helpful!

Ouch! I’ve never waxed, but I have pulled off skin accidentally. I use Mederma on scrapes, old zit marks and other ouchies to help them heal without too much of a dark spot/scar. It’s got allantoin in it, which helps to soften the skin.
I hope the plumbers were able to fix the leak. I once lived on a hill and came home to see what gushing out from under our deck and down the hill. I called the landlord (who happened to be our neighbor and a family friend) immediately and he just sort of chuckled and said he’d look at it when he got home from work. After he looked at it he admitted he thought I might be exaggerating about the water gushing. But nope, it was gushing, and turned out the main to the house had broken open. I’m just glad it didn’t take away the house foundation and that I didn’t have to pay for the repair.
BTW, how is the UD loose powder?

It’s not bad! I’ve used the Universal/Clear version and it hasn’t broken me out, and when I took pics I didn’t see any white cast. I like the fineness of the grains, too. I’m getting to that point in life, though, when setting powder is just another extra step (ugh, just one more thing to do), so it’s not something I’d wear every day, but I liked it.

I don’t use setting powder too much these days because it seems no matter how finely milled it makes my lines deeper and more pronounced. Sigh. But sometimes you need something to get rid of the foundation tackiness.

Ugh, that rots! You’ve been talking about a lot of stress lately. 🙁 I know it’s very hard but do try to remind yourself that it doesn’t do any good to worry about things you can’t control. Hope for the best and deal with bad news when you get it. Worrying about the worst case scenario only ups your anxiety. And I don’t mean that you shouldn’t consider all the options and make possible plans (and lists!). But maybe just think about it, write it down and mentally put it aside. It may end up being bad (and then you can freak) or not (and then you won’t have spent time being upset for nothing). I think all but the most relaxed of us battle with this regularly. 🙂

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
