What Happens When Price and Performance Collide? You Get the $175 Make Up For Ever Wild & Chic Aqua Cream Premium Set

Make Up For Ever Wild and Chic Aqua Cream Premium Set

Seriously, Make Up For Ever has been on a yuletide tear this season, killin’ it — KILLING IT! — with the Wild & Chic collection for the holidays. It’s not a huge holiday release, but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s all sorts of amazing.

At $175, the Wild & Chic Aqua Cream Premium Set (available now at sephora.com) isn’t making any friends among wallets and purses, but if you’re an aficionado of MUFE’s Aqua Creams, it actually represents a pretty good deal. It comes with 10 full-size colors from the company’s permanent line, which usually cost $22 apiece (or $220 for 10), one full-size eyeshadow brush, and a durable, reusable tin.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Aqua Creams, they’re long-wearing waterproof cream shadows that are deliciously easy to blend. Some of them can be worn on cheeks and lips, others on cheeks and eyes; all 10 of the ones in this set are of the cheeks and eyes variety.

The 10 Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams in the Wild & Chic Premium Set…

  • 12 Golden Copper — a soft, shimmery copper
  • 15 Taupe — a shimmery brownish taupe
  • 17 Plum — a shimmery burgundy-plum
  • 14 Satin Beige — a warm shimmery brown
  • 01 Anthracite — a shimmery, silvery charcoal
  • 11 Gold — a shimmery yellowish gold
  • 13 Warm Beige — a shimmery champagne
  • 16 Pink Beige — a shimmery pinkish beige
  • 04 Snow — a shimmery white pearl
  • 02 Steel — a shimmery, silvery gray

I’ve grown smitten with the Aqua Cream line over the past year or so and find myself using them a lot as cream eyeshadows and bases for powder shadows. They’re as dependable as oak trees (sturdy), and have a wonderful shimmer that lasts all day long.

Earlier today I took pics and swatches of the 10 shadows in the kit on two skin tones, a darker NC42 and a lighter NW25. Apologies for the lack of face/eye shots here, but I was pressed for time. I’ll try to incorporate a face of the day wearing at least one or two of these next week.

I love love love #13 Warm Beige. I’m looking to try the #16 pink beige. I can’t say enough about how long it lasts. It looks just as good at 7 p.m. as it did at 7 a.m. Excellent base for any shadows, or even to wear alone. I recommend it to everyone.

How does MUFE’s Aqua Creams compare to MAC paint pots? Do you still have to wear an eye primer, such as Urban Decay’s primer potion or Too Faced Shadow insurance, underneath to prevent creasing?

My experience with the MUFE aqua creams were ok not great as I hoped. The colors are stunning. However, when applied on the lid, they are so drying… I have oily lids and I experience dryness… Can be hard to blend if not done quickly. I prefer Mac paintpots better… They are much more workable… With all said, the aqua creams last on the lids for a long time!

I really like how this set is packaged. I appreciate that they’re neatly laid out in a tin rather than just tossed haphazardly into a cardboard box.

Thank you for including swatches on lighter skin too! That was very helpful. 😀

I have #5 and love it so much, though I rarely use them. I use them for the cheeks and it gives a nice soft shimmery golden pink Colour on my cheeks!

I really want this so badly, especially after seeing the swatches!!! 🙁

I have a few of these and love the colors they have in their line. I have difficulty picking up the color from the pot with a makeup brush. I would use a wide lip brush because the synthetic stiff bristles pick it up better than a soft fluffy brush like the MAC 217.

I find that MUFE’s aqua creams stay on longer than Stila’s version of paint pots. MAC’s paint pots has the same staying power as MUFE. I still prefer MAC’s paint pots over these because I can pick them up easily onto my brush. I have to apply MUFE with my fingers to get a good application from pot to face.

One thing that I don’t like with MUFE aqua creams is that they dry really quick if you don’t keep the MUFE lid tightly closed. To make the MUFE creams more portable, I scooped out half of my MUFE aqua cream into a smaller pot with a screw top lid I got from Coastal Scents. I kept the lids screwed tight on these little CS jars and the MUFE cream all dried up. It was as hard as a rock! I just lost half of my product – ouch! My MAC paint pot however, still remained creamy in the CS jar so you can’t say it’s the CS jar.

I think the paint pot version that Estee Lauder put out are also very nice. Between EL and MAC, I usually find shades I want and they don’t dry up as fast as the MUFE.

I think the MUFE aqua creams would rank #1 in my book if they only didn’t dry out so damn fast.

Having this swatched in two different skin tones made me appreciate your site even more! While I visit other sites as well, its nice to see makeup on a golden gal for a better idea of how something will work on me.

They look so pigmented! GORGEOUS! But I can’t wear any of their cream shadows because they have one ingredient that doesn’t play well on my eyes. It’s too bad because I always hear great things about these shadows.
