What DOES Rimmel Sexy Curves Waterproof Do Well?

July 19th, 2010 by Karen 35 Comments

Rimmel Sexy Curves Waterproof Mascara Review

Greetings, loved ones, from one of my favorite places in makeup-ville: the land of cheap drugstore mascara.

This time I’m here with Rimmel Sexy Curves Full Volume & Curve Waterproof Mascara ($7.50)…but we aren’t exactly best buds. As a matter of fact, if it weren’t for how well Sexy Curves lasts on wet lashes, we probably wouldn’t be friends at all.

I applied some before my workout yesterday, a sweaty 30-minute run on the treadmill, and it didn’t even budge. No smudging or flaking to speak of, and my lashes stayed deep, dark and black after every mile.

But our relationship isn’t perfect. Before we met, Sexy Curves Waterproof teased me with promises of 70% curlier lashes, 12-hour curl hold and allegedly great plumping and definition.

But one coat, two coats, three coats — WHEE! Instead of great curls and volume, it leaves clumps of angry little lashes in its wake. What’s more, Sexy Curves actually seems to relax the curl from my Shu Uemura lash curler. 🙁

A great price and excellent water resistance save it from the scrap heap, but for me those just aren’t enough to make it a star. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C

No offense to drug store mascara, but I never found anything comparable to department store stuff.

I had an awful experience with this mascara as well. This mascara did not hold a curl and smudged everywhere (it took a while to completely dry, even with just one coat). I ended up going back to my trusty Maybelline Full ‘N Soft mascara.

I usually like Rimmel mascaras, I have the non-waterproof Sexy Curves mascara but have yet to try it.

I really dislike this mascara.. It’s so hard to remove it actually irritates my eyes when I’m trying to take it off

ive actually heard good things about this mascara (from my favorite makeup artists of course) but since you said it wasnt all that maybe ill just continue re-purchasing my bad gal lash. All in all, I cannot wear any eye makeup with out mascara or else it will run. Is that common? It’s like the mascara holds everything in place or catches it when it falls.

I actually like the non-waterproof one 🙂 it stays on well though it does weigh down my lashes a little, but it isn’t so bad

I tried Rimmel mascaras after seeing amazing results on my friend’s lashes, but I found them to be just too goopy to do anything interesting with my lashes. And I need to use makeup remover at least three times to get rid of raccoon eyes.

As far as drugstore mascaras are concerned, now I stick to Max Factor.

I’m not really a big fan of the plastic spiky applicators. They tend to clump like crazy on me 🙁

Aww that’s so upsetting! Because I love the regular one in the purple tube. It’s my favorite drugstore mascara. I love their Lash Max mascara, too. But then again, I’ve never been too huge on waterproof mascaras; I hate having to fight to get them off!

Oh wow, I have the non-waterproof version of this mascara and its my absolute favorite mascara ever! I havent tried this water proof one though. I find the non-water proof one to be even better than my MAC and Stila mascaras!

    Ughh I hated this mascara!\

@\dani@callitbeauty mine smelled really bad too!

I hated the texture of the formula and it clumped loads on me and did nothing for my lashes 🙁

Back to the hunt for a good volumising and lengthening mascara! Any suggestions?

I bought this mascara a while back and was very disappointed!!! It barely coated my lashes and the curl did not hold at all. It was a waste of money and a shame cos I like Rimmel products, but this mascara sucked!

I really like the OG Sexy Curves mascara, but in general I don’t like waterproof mascara. It clumps and is a beast to get off. I’m the type that refuses to pay department store prices for mascara (I’ve done the Lancome mascara phase) but I just didn’t see that it made much of a difference. My first love is still CoverGirl Last Blast (the orange tube) and Loreal’s Voluminous is a close second. I sense a theme here…I’m clearly going more for volume than length!

I have this! And it wont stay on worht crap for me! It might be due to the fact that I wear it to water parks, but still, It doesn;t do much for me. Any reccomendations for a good water proof drug store mascara?

I don’t like the fact that it’s so wet, but maybe the formula will get better with time?? Maybe it will become a bit thicker a few weeks after opening it! 🙂

I was so curious about the waterproof as I have the regular in the purple tube and it’s TDF! It took me a few times of playing with it to fall in love, but now I am on my third tube. I’d heard the waterproof wasn’t nearly as good though. I’ll stick to the regular!

You can tell it’s not going to work just by looking at the coated brush. Yikes. No thanks. I have yet to see something that Rimmel did really well. Sorry, Rimmel.

I had gone back and forth about trying this or the original Sexy Curves and the purple tube won out, but I’m thinking this might’ve worked a little better. It’s HOT down here in South Texas and my eyelids are oily on a good day, so I usually stick with waterproof, but I figured I’d try the original before stepping up to waterproof formula. Oh, Rimmel, why so disappointing with the mascaras? The formula is really wet and the brush is a little rough. I don’t mind the bristles so much, because they separate my lashes fantastically, but the product *immediately* relaxes the curl in my lashes. If I haven’t already curled the heck out of my lashes, this stuff makes them point downwards! I’m not going to even bother to try the waterproof in the hopes of holding the curl with a stiffer formula. Sorry Rimmel, but that’s it for the mascara trials!

I hated this mascara, and I don’t use that word often. I curl my lashes and the curl flopped immediately. I gave it to my daughter who doesnt need a eyelash curler, but she doesnt like waterproof. no one was happy with this one. lol Right now I like waterproof Cover girl volume exact. it holds a curl 🙂

Hey I have been reading your blog for a while and it is only now that I am commenting. Well I use this mascara and while it is not the one I use for big nights out, it comes in handy for the gym or for lectures at the Uni ! I actually use the dark brown one but once my the mascara is over, I’ll try the black one ! Anyhow, it is a great buy and is perfect for when you don’t want to look too fancy!

You´re so right! I recently bought the waterproof mascara, because I wanted a mascara that stayed on my lashes.

But now i have tried it and its the worst mascara ever! It does NOTHING for my lashes, it leaves them short and clumpy. (and I dont have short lashes)

I am so dissapointed, cause i just LOVED the purple one.

Do NOT buy this mascara, but the purple one instead! 🙂
