Warming Up to the NARS Spring 2011 Collection

January 15th, 2011 by Karen 26 Comments

NARS spring 2011
Lip Gloss in Nana atop Pure Matte Lipstick in Madère

I got so fired up playing with NARS’ new Lip Gloss in Nana, Pure Matte Lipstick in Madère and Soft Touch Eye Pencil in Celebrate that I momentarily forgot just how cold it is outside.

The three are from the NARS Spring 2011 collection we looked at the other day, and right now they’re keeping me warmer than toe socks, turtlenecks and argyle blankets do.

A few bangin’ brights bring the shy neutrals in the new NARS Spring 2011 collection out of hibernation. The 11-piece release for eyes, lips and nails features earth tones with shimmery metallic finishes, cool purples and pinks, and a couple of unexpected blues and greens. Find it now on NARS counters and narscomestics.com.

Lip Gloss in Nana, $24

No, this wasn’t named after grammy. 🙂 It’s a French slang for “chick” or “girl,” and it’s the only new lip gloss color in the collection (the other two shades, Angelika and Super Orgasm, are repromotes). The deep creamy purple is much more pigmented than I thought, and a little goes a long way. I feel like it might be a little too dark for me, so I’ll probably layer it on top of lipsticks more often than I use it by itself.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

Pure Matte Lipstick in Madère

WOW! This matte pinkish beige couldn’t be much lighter. I have a hard time wearing it by itself because the pale, cool tones look ashy on my warm NC35 skin (hello, zombie girl ). It might work better on girls who wear cooler pinks well. Oh, I think it’s also a bit more drying than the other Pure Mattes I’ve tried.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Celebrate, $24

Celebrate makes me want to bust out the Kool & The Gang, yo. This creamy matte neon green appears to borrow its color from Kermit the Frog, but that’s a huge plus in my book. When I wear it worn alone on my lids without a primer, however, it migrates like crazy, homing in on my fine lines. I LOVE the color, but the way it wears? Not so much.

Here I go again…

…ON MY OWN! Yep, I’ve been listening to White Snake’s Here I Go Again today, doopdadoo.

What a great (albeit cheesy as all get out) old song.

Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone!

I’m so glad it’s the weekend, ladies. What are you up to today? Anything fun? I’m about to get a quick lunch, but after that I don’t have plans. I do want to catch up on this week’s episodes of the Jersey Shore and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills…

I know, I know. Don’t say it. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I think Nana looks nice on you by itself 🙂 You could rock it if you wanted to!
I visited a farmer’s market and a craft fair with my Mama today. I’ll be sad to leave her (and Florida weather!) tomorrow and fly back to Massachusetts. Not looking foward to those weekend plans lol.

Nana on it’s own is lovely, but I swear, I could use Madere as a concealer. That barely counts as lipstick in my case.

I feel like the shades in this collection are so thrown together…. but that gloss looks really great on you, even by itself!

Today I spent a few hours reading, and did a little bit of makeup organization. Just had an early thai takeout dinner and now watching football! Falcons play later tonight – woohoo!

I adore that little zombie animation-he’s so cute!
I knew the pencil wouldn’t stay put. Why NARS, can’t you fix that? It’s such a great colour.

Pure matte lipstick in Madere when coupled with a bit of gloss would look fab! Think that would look great when paired with smoky eyes!

I think you can rock the lipgloss! :

Also, I’m pretty sure that lipstick on its own would only be able to look good on approximately twelve people. They’d all be practically albinos with cool undertones.

that Madère lipstick would be good if you were trying to do a halloween “dead” look. what in the world, nars?

I like Nana lipgloss. Though it seems to be dark for a spring collection.

Is it wrong that this post is totalling making me want Madère? I’ve been trying to find a nude lipstick for AGES that a) runs light enough for me, and b) doesn’t pull super-orange, like many of them do… let’s hope this is the one!

I usually don’t like nude lipsticks, but I think Madère would look good on very fair skin.
As for Nana, I’m sure you can rock it on its own!

Thanks for the swatches, I did order my Nars Spring thingies this morning and I skipped Celebrate, I love the photo but now I know I am too pale to wear it without looking like a dead-woman-walking. I did order Madere and Angelika, zombie-looking lips are better than zombie-looking eyes!

I think Nana looks great on you on its own (not too dark) but definitely agree on Madere. It just looks so drying. It made me want to grab some lip balm myself! 🙂 Btw, anytime we can see Earl stumbling through a post is awesome!

PS After I apply lip balm, I’ll probably roll around on the hood of my car for a while in honor of Tawny Kitaen. 🙂

Oh, and lastly, I watched a bit of Jersey Shore for the first time this weekend. My friend is totally hooked. I had to threaten her with an intervention if she didn’t change it back to the hockey game. 🙂

I want to love the soft touch shadow pencils but they migrate and crease no matter what primer I use!!! 🙁 It makes me so sad because the colors are gorgeous (also I dropped $72 for 3 of them at once…..)

Please go see “Rock of Ages” since they’re on tour. Or see the broadway shadow in NYC. It’d be right up your alley, Karen! Chock full of 80s hits and cheese.

But your lips look incredible in the Madere! That close up shot makes me want to go out and buy the lipstick!
I feel like to pull that shade off – everything else would probably have to be very neutral.. I dont know! i’ve been dying to get a light lip color like that but im an NC44!
If you happen to come across a nude shade that would suit tanned skin please make a post about it!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
