I’m Sanguine About Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick and Nail Color in Gash

Please try not to stare at my T. rex claws…but of course now that I’ve brought them up, you’re going to be staring. 🙂

“RrrrAAAaarr!” T. rex!

I’m holding a purse here because I’ve discovered — well, actually, I’ve know this for a long time — that it’s very hard to take pictures of your hands near your face, because when you have your hands near your face, it makes your hands look huge. Or, conversely, your face looks really small.

I thought I’d be all crafty and clever by holding this purse here to showcase new Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick ($22) and Nail Color in Gash ($15).

Is it working? I don’t know…

Probably not. My hands still look pretty big.

These two products — you may recognize the Revolution Lipstick. It’s a re-launch. The nail polish, however, is new. They’re both available now online.

That’s an interesting name isn’t it? Gash? I don’t want to be too morbid, but let’s just say — I don’t know — we were surfing one day and charging the waves really hard (yeah, those 3-foot waves) when we accidentally crashed into each other on our surfboards and cut our shins.

Not terribly, though. Just a few scratches. Not a lot of blood, because if there were a lot of blood, I’d probably pass out.

The color does kind of remind me of what’s pumping through our veins, though, and I have to say, it’s a pretty accurate representation. I know this because I broke a glass once when I was 19, and it cut my hand…

This was shortly before I told my parents that I didn’t want to go to medical school. I remember standing there in the kitchen holding the glass, and feeling kind of feint watching the blood drip down my hand, and thinking, “It’s probably not a good idea to go to medical school…”

And it happened really slowly, like, “I t ‘ s p r o b a b l y n o t a g o o d i d e a t o g o t o m e d i c a l s c h o o l . . .”

The blood was the exact same color.

The nail polish has a little bit of shimmer. I used two layers here, and the formula applies nice and smooth.

The only thing with Urban Decay polishes, though, is that they tend to chip fairly quickly for me. I’m talking one or two days sometimes, even when I use a base and top coat, so just a word of caution. Be extra careful with your nails when you wear ’em.

The Revolution Lipstick feels super smooth, and I love the way it looks. Wear time-wise, for what it’s worth, it doesn’t last through meals. I had some quinoa cakes yesterday, and when I looked in the mirror afterward, I could see the color sort of rimming my lips.

So, bring it with you. You’ll probably want to touch up after lunch.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The lipstick looks amazing on you! And gosh, I don’t know if it’s the light or not but wow, the finish of that nail lacquer is beautiful. Too bad it chips so fast… I really need longlasting nail polish because my nails are suuuuper prone to chipping 🙁

Not exactly my colors but the lipstick looks great on you.

And I have to agree, photographing your hands and nails is always difficult! I don’t think your pose looks awkward though. Later, T Rex 🙂

That lip color swatches beautifully!! I’ve never thought your hand poses were particularly strange haha, but you could always do Lisa Eldridge’s classic pre-Lancome Chanel tutorial “hands-resting-gently-on-cheeks” nail pose hahaha – have you ever seen her tutorials on the Chanel Youtube??

    Love the play on words!
It’s interesting — a unit of blood in a transfusion bag is much more black in color than you might think–more garnet than red.

I’ve wanted Gash for a while as I missed out on it. I might have to pick it up now that it’s on re-promote.

Karen, did you ever get the UD Pulp Fiction nail polish? I have it and just from looking at the pictures it seems awfully close to the Gash nail polish. If you have it I would love to know your thoughts and if they are really that different!

I love the UD nail polish bottles but the wear time isn’t that great. I already have horrible wear time with most nail polishes in general. It still doesn’t stop me from buying more though lol.

Haha, Gash was the lipstick I was wearing yesterday ^^ At work I did just base, brows and Gash. And for the evening – I went to a consert – I added a taupy shimmer smokey eye with lots of lashes. Love Gash! It is such a lovely red. I added a lip pencil (Nyx bordeaux) and it lasted through meals ok – A tiny bit of fading but pretty much just noticable for me.

I had Gash nail polish way back when. The formula wasn’t so great. One thing I don’t miss about the early days of UD.

I also own UD’s gash lipstick. Whenever I wear it, it does look like I smeared blood on my lips. I do love the shade but I am still not confident enough to wear it in the daytime. On Urban Decay’s tumblr page, they suggested wearing their venom lipliner with their gash lipstick. Venom and gash seem like a interesting combination that I would like to try.

don’t even talk to me about blood. just thinking about it makes my stomach turn, you know.
but this color is super pretty, and in my mind this is such a powerhouse color, the one i’d wear when i’m ceo of philipps or something.

I love the way they look on you! My sis and I just went to the UD boutique in Orange County and she bought me the nail color! It is my intro to the brand’s nail color, and I can’t wait to try it out. hoping I will have better luck with the chip factor. and I have never seen your hands look awkward in your swatch photos. I have bought a few nail colors because of your gorgeous swatches, TBH.
