Pardon My French, but Holy Wow! Is That the $49 Too Faced Pardon My French Set?

April 16th, 2014 by Karen 37 Comments

Too Faced Pardon My French
Wearing products from the new $49 Too Faced Pardon My French set on my eyes

Alright, then I will attempt to say it in French. “Ladurée, macarons, Gerard Depardieux…”

S’il vous plait, mademoiselle! Please pardon my French. I know that it isn’t very good, but that’s what you get for not paying attention in high school French class. And it’s even worse than usual when I’m sleep deprived.

Over the past few days, I’ve averaged about three hours of sleep per night, but ya know, that’s the price one pays for excitement, and it’s been an exciting few days.

I’m back at home in Novato now, recovering from my trip to Nashville, which leads me, in an obviously contrived segue, to something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about for a while — the new Pardon My French set by Too Faced Cosmetics ($49). 🙂

Too Faced Pardon My French Set

Available now at Sephora stores and sephora.com, this limited edition cutie-pie comes with five pieces, but it’s more like 13 (because one of them’s a palette). There’s an eyeshadow palette with nine powder eyeshadows, a tiny eye primer, a full-sized eyeliner, one mini mascara and a makeup bag.

The $49 Too Faced Pardon My French summer set comes with…

  • One tiny 0.11-oz tube of Shadow Insurance
  • The Bonjour Summer Eye Palette with nine shadows in Plumeria (a vivid pink), Cocoa Beach (a plummy brown sugar), Firefly (a copper), Chocolate Sun (a shimmery rich brown), Mermaid (a muted teal), Toasted Coconut (a matte caramel), Seashell (a shimmery dusty rose), Sand Dollar (a peachy shimmer) and Sunbeam (a pale golden shimmer)
  • A mini 0.25-oz tube of Lash Injection Extreme Volume Mascara
  • A full-sized 0.04-oz Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Perfect Black
  • One awfully cute makeup bag

Too Faced Pardon My French Set

If you just experienced a moment of déjà vu, it may have been caused by the Bonjour Summer Eye Palette. If the shades look familiar to you, that’s because it’s essentially last year’s Summer Eyes Palette in different packaging, with the addition of a couple new shades.

This one trades last year’s shimmery, peachy golden Peach Fuzz and satiny Coral Crush for matte beige Sand Dollar and shimmery copper Firefly, which don’t constitute a dramatic change in the overall color vibe, but it’s enough to tell the difference.

Too Faced Pardon My French
Wearing Eyeshadows in Sand Dollar Eyeshadow (all over lids), Toasted Coconut (crease and lower lash line), Chocolate Sun (outer corner and lower lash line)

I think the addition of Sand Dollar and Firefly warm the palette overall, and the addition of Sand Dollar, a matte beige, is just downright practical.

You know the old saying (that I just made up): a girl can always use another matte beige as an all-over lid color. They ain’t flashy, but they’re soooo useful.

As for Firefly, the shimmery copper, you know, I can’t really say I’m crazy about it, to be honest. I wanted to love it because I’m kind of going through a shimmery copper phase, but I find its glitter gritty, and I notice quite a bit of fallout.

So, yeah. Not my fave.

That’s Shadow Insurance Primer on my lids, Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner on my upper lash and water lines and Lash Injection Mascara on my lashes

If you picked up last year’s Summer Eyes palette, unless you’re a die-hard Too Faced hoarder, you may not need this one.

That said, if you’re new to the brand or just new to eyeshadow palettes in general, I think this would be a good place to start. It has a little color and some killer neutral shades.

I’m also wearing Too Faced’s Sun Bunny Bronzer and Candy Glow Perfect Flush Blush on my cheeks and Melted Nude Melted Lipstick on my lips

In these pics I’m wearing beige Sand Dollar all over my lids, shimmery golden tan Toasted Coconut in my creases, and dark shimmery Chocolate Sun in the outer corners, all of which blended together beautifully without fallout.

If you’re still on the fence about this one, you could use the neutral shades as a starter base, and then add fun accents with the black eyeliner or the teal and pink shades.

Very pretty.

As for the rest of the set…

  • The makeup bag: OOH! So nice and roomy.
  • The mini Shadow Insurance Eye Primer: Will help your eyeshadows hang on to your lids all day long.
  • Lash Injection Mascara: Great for thickening, but just OK for length.
  • Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Perfect Black: A super smooth, easy-to-use gel liner, but it dries quickly, so work fast.

Too Faced Pardon My French Set

For $49, I think you get a lot of practical products with this set. Could make a cute gift for a girlfriend, or perhaps even for mom — Mother’s Day is coming. 🙂

PRICE: $49 (an $83 value)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora stores and sephora.com

Travel snacks?

Question for you — when you travel by plane and it’s a long flight, do you bring food/snacks from home, or do you buy at the airport?

I’m asking because on this last trip to Nashville, I was freaking starving on the plane! I brought some Lara Bars and a snack-sized Quaker Oatmeal cup, which totally saved my butt because — you don’t understand, LOL! — when I’m hungry, I turn into a beast. I just get really crabby and irrational.

The snacks kept Beast Karen away, but I wanted a real meal, and they weren’t serving them on the flights.

I know I could have gotten food at the airport, but I didn’t want to risk it. My tummy is more, um, sensitive than it used to be, and I’m not about to “drop the kids off” on a plane, you know what I’m sayin’?

Anywho! TMI there… Let me know how you handle the food situation when you travel. Inquiring minds want to know.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I shied away from this palette the previous two years because of the fallout (even though I’m still lusting after the colors!), so it’s a shame that hasn’t been fixed yet–at least with the new addition, Firefly…

      Hi Miki,

The fallout with the matte and non-glittery shimmer shades is minimal — hardly any at all, really. 🙂

I like the set, but it leans a tiny bit too warm for me overall!

I definitely bring snacks with me from home on the plane – I mean, I live in New Zealand, which means my flight/travel time is either only 2 hours (to the other end of the country) or two days (to Europe – I don’t see much of the 3.5 hour to Oz middle ground, sadly!).

Depending on the airline, sometimes you get good snacks (Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines are good for this, I find), but it’s always a good idea to bring a few. I don’t sleep on planes or in airports either, so I need something to amuse myself on those 14 hour flights!

Such a cute set! You look bronzed, glowing, and ready for summer. I haven’t been a fan of Melted Nude from other swatches, but it’s impressive with your complexion!

I love this palette. I just did a makeup tutorial on my blog using this palette. As far as snacks, I don’t bring any from home. If I’m really hungry, I just eat something at the airport.

Yep, I picked it up! It’s what I used to wear when I worked at the counter. It’s very slightly dark, but the undertones are right and it doesn’t look too dark. My old boss I bought it from gave me a mini mascara too!

Aww, old school! I’ve been using a Clinique one lately (the one for feathery lashes) mostly ’cause it doesn’t smear. It’s not as drag as I’d like but it gets the job done, ya know?

I think I’m with you on this palette – not super exciting, but you can’t go wrong with their shadow quality.

I always pack snacks! Partly because I’m not paying $10 for a tiny box of crackers, but also because I get terrible motion sickness and have to pack stuff I know I’ll eat (usually saltines, jumbo Red Vines to keep my blood sugar up, and maybe a MetRx bar for protein).

As much as I love Too Faced palettes, and like your swatch of the color Mermaid, I may pass on this one… I just don’t really need more pinks or warm browns and already hoard enough palettes, lol. I do love their eyeliner pencils, though, I think they’re the best, so if I wanted more of the colors, this would be a good value.

I have the Summer Palette so I’m glad I read your review before jumping in the pool. I actually think this is nicer because of the matte shades but… I don’t need it. (whew…)

I really hate to travel but when I do the only thing I buy at the airport (after security)is a very large bottle of water. I usually pack stuff like almonds and trail mix for when I get hungry. They pack well and they don’t confiscate them.

Isn’t it funny how our cats can be so aloof and then WHAM – I want you to pick me up and snuggle me and pet me, pet me, pet me. OK THAT’S ENOUGH – LEAP! (ouch Boosh, claws in remember?) LOL
