The Pixi Fake Awake Kit: For Lighter Lovelies Who Like Well-Rested Looks

September 30th, 2011 by Karen 18 Comments

As a semi-professional power napper able to sleep standing up, I appreciate the idea behind the new Pixi Fake Awake Kit in No. 1 PowerNap ($28), with its products designed to fake a wide awake look “without getting caught.” The cutie-pie kit comes with eight products — two of Pixi’s Correcting Concealers, two Brightening Concealers, one Cheek & Eye Awakening Powder, an Eye Area Setting Powder, one Lip & Cheek Tint and a Lip Gloss — and features lots of pink and peach.

Because sheer pastels are the prevailing pigments here, the overall effect seems better suited to lighter lovelies than darker damsels, but most of the pieces, with the exception of the concealers, which are probably better for pale pretties, should complement skin tones from light to medium.

The Lip & Cheek Tint delivers a pretty hint of natural pinkish red that steers clear of fussy but still stands out. As for the powders, unfortunately, I think the fluffy grains could have been a little smoother because I can see them sitting on top of my skin.

PRICE: $28
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Target stores and also online

Nothing exciting, unfortunately. Will spend most of tomorrow in the library, researching things for work :/ Hope your weekend is more eventful! 🙂

The packaging is cute, but I think the glosses will get dirty over time because of the powder products so close-by.

Hehe, I love how Tabs is licking his chops in that photo. 🙂

      Hi Juli,

If you send over your guest post, I’ll review it as soon as I can. I’ve been a little busier than usual this week, so it may take me some time though. I’ll let you know if I need any additional material from you once I’ve had a chance to review it. I also received your email and tweet about reviewing your new blog design and congratulations! I think it looks great. I’ll try to send you a little more specific feedback soon. Have a good weekend.

Yay! Your post about weird beauty products changed my life, haha. Okay, maybe not my LIFE, but it definitely helped me! 🙂

I have a prominent brow bone (deep set eyes) and really long lashes. The way my skull is shaped (lol, that sounds so weird but I’m not sure how else to describe it) means that I inevitably end up with mascara all over my skin whenever I apply it. It meant that I always had to put on mascara before I applied any eyeshadow and hope that there was no fallout so I wouldn’t end up with, say, turquoise eyelashes. Now I don’t have to worry! 😀 Thank you so much for your post!

Ehhh, while I am one of the pale people (NC20), I think I’ll pass. Nothing annoys me more than powdery products.

Oh my God, do you watch the Daily Show? If you don’t, there was something on last night that, when I saw it, I thought to myself, “I WILL HAVE TO SHARE THIS LINK ON MBB TOMORROW,” lol. It can help fill the void of SVU. I checked the Daily Show website for the clip just now, and the show has given last night’s sketch its very own website: http://www.melognaisbologna.com/

    Enjoy!

P.S. The reason this glorious sketch aired is because of what happened during a Wall Street protest in Manhattan. Five female protesters were cordoned off in a little pen (not sure why), and this one officer sprayed them with pepper spray. Turns out, the policeman’s name is Anthony Bologna, and well, the rest is history, hahaha. I really hope there are more of these bits! I miss my Melogna.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
