The Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Collection Delights Eyes With Three Layers of Long-Lasting Liner

November 14th, 2012 by Karen 29 Comments

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Collection
The new, limited edition Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Collection ($36), available now at Sephora and sephora.com

Like tiramisu, onions and intricate and nefarious plots, there are many layers to the pencil liners in the new $36 Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Collection.

Three, to be exact. 🙂

That’s the number of layers MUFE suggests you apply along your water lines with each of the six silky smooth, waterproof liners that come with the set.

(Oh, they also work pretty well on lash lines, in case you were wondering.)

Aqua Eyes pencils from the left: #0L Mat Black (full size), #2L Pearly Brown (full size), #21L Metallic Grey (travel size), #12L Turquoise (travel size), #23L Champagne (travel size) and #6L Black Purple (travel size)

Just slick on a layer, wait for it dry (takes about a minute), and repeat two more times.

When I follow MUFE’s suggestion and apply three layers, these liners last 6-8 hours on my water lines, sans smudging, and they resist water every step of the way.

That’s not bad.

When I wear ’em on my lash lines, I feel like I can get away with fewer layers; one or two does the trick.

Like the All Eyes On You set we looked at earlier today, this one’s also a good value. Buying the two full-size liners separately would cost $36, but with the set, you also get four additional travel-sized colors for the same price.

MUFE was kind to include a nice mix of practical and fun colors here, and the kit even has a couple of MUFE shades I’ve previously worn down to stubs.

The shimmery, pearly peach, codenamed #23L Champagne, works almost as well as caffeine. When I wear it on my lower water lines, I don’t look half as tired, LOL! And on days when I just want a little soft definition, #21L Metallic Grey hits the spot.

My favorite thing about this set? Not having to touch up throughout the day. Sure, it would be even better if these liners lasted just as long without all the layering, but I see it as a beauty give-and-take. I don’t mind the extra effort for intense colors and great wear time.

One last thing: if you like Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, you might also like these.

PRICE: $36 for the set
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora stores and online at sephora.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+/A- (if they lasted as long without the layering, I’d like them even more)

So what’s the plan tonight?

Mine involves washing my makeup brushes (it never ends!).

Now that’s a party…

After the brushes, I’ll probably just watch a couple of 30 Rock episodes sitting on the DVR, and pass out promptly at 10.

Also, I may or may not gorge myself on persimmons. It really depends on how much I’m craving See’s…

I’ve been trying this thing where I pretend that fruit is actually candy, but it doesn’t seem to be satisfying my actual cravings for See’s, LOL! 🙂

Oh, well.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Are they creamy?

      Hi Stacie,

They’re pretty creamy, but not as soft as something like a gel pencil like Bobbi Brown’s Jet or a smudgy kohl.

I do like urban decay 24/7 line but I’m not sold on “apply 3 times”. Doesn’t clump up or crack, and probably looks pretty but golly, that’s two eyes I’ve got there. I mean, maybe if I were a pirate it would be time economy.

What say ye? Worth the effort only if you need it all day? Hard to remove?

      Hi Tiffany,

I actually really like these, but you know. Extra time and all. You may be able to knock out looks faster with something like MAC Fluidline or Bobbi Brown’s Jet.

Removal isn’t that hard. I use MAC Cleanse Off Oil. Takes off everything, and it does it fast.

Lemme know if you have any other questions!

Cleanse Off Oil is EPIC! I always have at least two bottles at home so I never run out. 🙂

Does it win VS waterproof mascara? That’s always a pain for me.

Ah Karen I love MUFE Aqua Eyes! I couldn’t find a liner I liked that was bold but didn’t smear so I always stuck to liquids or the kind from Mac that comes in a pot that you brush on. Then a girl at Sephora recommended this and I was hooked! It’s the best I won’t buy anything else.

Haha, I know what you mean. It took me a while to become one with the crazy shades…but hey, do it enough and soon you’ll be wearing it to Trader Joe’s to buy Mango Bars. 🙂

Ugh, these are so cute! The MUFE & UD liner sets tempt me every year, but the formulas just don’t last on my eyes — which is really a pity, because they always have the creamiest textures (and some of the prettiest shades!)

      Hi Rae,

Aww, bummer. Hmm…have you ever tried drying off your water line first with a Q-tip? I find that helps liner stick more to my water line area.

I aaalmost came home with this set the other night, but as I was already WAY over budget and had recently bought a brand new 0L and gotten a lovely brown Giorgio Armani liner, I decided to just buy the full-sized 23L and call it a night. Not so sure about it at the moment though…I might return it for the purple instead

I use that color all the time on my lower water line. It’s great to perk up tired eyes!

I went for the Tarte set this year because I still have all the mini UD pencils I got 2 years ago! I only line my lower lash line with colorful pencils, so they last forever! Now come to think of it I have a mini black MUFE one. Maybe it’s time to take it out to see how the formula works for me!

You might really like it. It’s similar to the 24/7 Glide-Ons.

Oh, apply three times is a killer for me. But, I’m not a waterliner anyway, so I guess it doesn’t matter. 🙂

The boys and I went to see Skyfall last night. YAY! I really liked it and was tickled by the reveal at the end with his “shaving helper”. Of course, it was easy to see it coming, but still really satisfying. I also liked that I really couldn’t blame Javier – I’m sure I’d feel the same way after all that. Of course, he’s the bad guy but you can understand why! Two thumbs up. 🙂

      Hi Kim,

How creepy was Javier’s character? There’s something about him in a blonde wig that’s just all sorts of wrong.

Okay, was it just me, or did it feel like they were wrapping things up and setting up a new chapter? I really hope this isn’t Daniel’s last go as Bond.

Totally creepy. And the teeth? I am a “teeth person” and that scene made me shudder (while I also really felt bad for him… even though he’s evil and must be stopped! hee hee!)

I understand what you mean about setting up a new chapter but, to me, it felt like kind of a back-to-basics Bond. I read that DC is signed on to do two more films, so that’s good news. Hopefully I’m not giving it away for others, but I think by having RF as M and introducing Moneypenny, it was like “this is the Bond you remember, with a man as M, a role for Q and the sassy secretary you love.” She helps to bring a little lightness and fun. The first 2 DC Bonds didn’t have that playfulness. To me, these changes in Skyfall and their theme of “the old ways still work” point to integrating some of the old fun with the new, more serious stuff. But DC is definitely supposed to stay for 2 more. 🙂 Sorry, that was long, and just my take!

I’m trying to get someone to gift me this for Christmas this year, lol. I’ve never tried them but have heard so many great things about them! I think this would be the perfect way to get to know what they’re about and have some fun colours to play with. I especially look forward to the champagne for the same reason, an instant “caffeine” fixer upper, lol.
