Stila Long Wear Liquid Lip Color Swatches and Gratuitous Kitten Pictures

August 6th, 2010 by Karen 44 Comments

stila long wear liquid lip color review swatches

Today I started the day with a long list of good intentions and tasks on my to-do list, but several other pressing matters needed attending to, like housework and these cute kittens at the Marin Humane Society.

The Society’s temporarily reduced their usual $100 adoption fee to $50. For a CCL (crazy cat lady) like me, that’s like a Feline Friends & Family Sale!

Gee, I can get two for the price of one!?

Kitten Quest 2010

Wisely, I fought the urge to splurge and came home kitten-free, but it was touch and go there for a while. The two brothers in first pic put me through a rigorous interview before suddenly stopping to nap. 🙂

I guess they’ll call me if I get the job…

Blog Stereo

In other news, I’ve been listening to a lot of Drake lately. Have you heard of this guy? I’ve had his new album, Thank Me Later, locked on repeat for days.

He’s a hip-hop artist who both sings and raps, and I love his wordplay and the storytelling in his lyrics. The beats are catchy, too, especially if you like Wale or Talib Kweli.

My two current favorite tracks — Miss Me and Unforgettable.

Do Squeeze The Charmin

I also spent an inordinate amount of time today contemplating toilet paper. Yes, that’s right. Last night I sent El Hub out for emergency TP, and he returned with the scratchiest, crunchiest, most effed-up toilet paper known to womankind.

He says it was cheaper than the other brands. Hmm… When it comes to toilet paper, I want that three-ply stuff that feels like fluffy clouds, please.

Kiss and Make-Up

After kittens, music and toilet paper time (WHEE!), I also swatched a few of the new Stila Long Wear Liquid Lip Colors ($22 each).

The tubes are basically long-wearing liquid lipsticks with doe-foot applicators (and they’re not drying at all). I came across them at Sephora this week and brought home three of the six colors in Caprice (a matte hot pink), Patina (a matte rose) and Coral (a shimmery coral).

Once these unscented, unflavored lippies dry on my lips they last about four hours if eating and drinking are involved; if not, they last about six.

Another plus? They deliver lots of rich color even if I use very little product. Over-apply, though, and they feel heavy, tight and waxy on my lips. With these, less is definitely more. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+/A-

So, despite the fact that I didn’t get very much done today, it was still a great Friday. 🙂 How was yours?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Awww I hope those kitties find a good home. So I ended up going to Sephora and getting a bronze colored waterproof eyeliner and my VIB gift. 🙂

I’ve been hoarding up my Beauty Insider points and I’m thinking of redeeming them for the Smashbox IT kit. Does anyone have this? Is it a yes.. no.. maybe?

Karen, I’m slowly becoming obsessed with this blog. That could be a bad thing! 🙂

Oh, I forgot to say that I really like that Coral color. I’m not a coral kind of girl but this looks right up my alley. And the fact that it’s long wear is a bonus to me because lip color fades off me super quickly. I just might have to get this.

Did you decide not to rate this one or did I just miss it?

      Hi Kymberlee,

Bronze liners are great! I have one from MAC that I really love called Powersurge I wear it along my waterline all the time. It’s good for days when I want a little something but don’t want to go full on with a dark brown or black. Which one did you end up getting? Is it the Make Up For Ever one?

I think I may have seen that kit when I was there… it’s the one with the primer, right?

Yeah my new Sephora BFF (I”m going to call him that because I talked to him forever in there) suggested it to me. I thought it would be something a little different from what I have. It’s actually Sephora’s new waterproof eyeliner. I’ve never tried their eyeliner before but Sephora BFF swatched it and it did not budge at all. Funny you mentioned the MUFE though because I have 5 of their eyeliners (25th Anniversary set).

Yeah, the Smashbox kit I’m talking about is the one with the primer. I’m not sure if I should redeem or just wait to see what the next perk will be.

I have a Sephora BFF too! 🙂 I saw that Smashbox kit and was really tempted, but I decided I need to save up all my points for something really cool at Christmas – seems like Sephora always comes out with really great perks around the holidays!

How do you like the VIB gift? I’m still waiting for mine in the mail.

Holy WOW those are cute! 😀 I was reading this post with my sister, and we both think Patina is cute… but she hates Caprice which I *adore*, and I’m not a fan of Coral, which she thought was pretty much the best thing ever. Talk about different tastes! 😛

    P. S. I love how you’ve been doing your hair recently — it’s so cute and classy!

OMG, I’m going to keel over and die from the cuteness, especially the second picture! I love kitty pictures, even though I could NEVER own one. I’m a deranged dog lady (I had to find a synonym for crazy because Crazy Dog Lady or CDL does NOT sound right. Maybe Ditzy Dog Lady…nah, I think I’ll stick with deranged).

Stila did an unflavored AND unscented lip gloss in a practical tube? GAAAAAAAAAAAH, if only I didn’t spend my money on textbooks…and I have a hair trim tomorrow and then I’m going to be really poor (no, I CANNOT skip this one. I have crazy split ends). Two things I hate about Stila lip glazes–the scent and that darn clicky pen contraption. Doesn’t stop me from buying them (well, the super scented are off limits) but that clicky pen contraption drives me bonkers. I had a major lipgloss emergency in the middle of a history test last semester and the clicking of the pen was SO LOUD in the dead quiet room. Never wear a Stila lip glaze when you have a test.

I, at least, have a dad that understands the need for two-ply cushiony toilet paper just like we need two-ply facial tissue without the fragrances and lotion (we <3 Scotties Facial Tissues. Tissue paper made for sensitive skin!). It has to be Charmin or Quilted Northern. If it isn't, my mom and I are guaranteed to throw the toilet paper down the stairs and demand the good toilet paper.

I think we need a giant mosquito bomb for my area. I have no fewer than 20 mosquito bites and one is in the middle of my scalp and two are in the middle of my back where I can't reach them!.

Oh why tempt me with picture of kittens that need homes. The boy had to stop me from rescuing a mommy and her two week old babies at our apartment complex during a bad storm two days ago. I had the box and blankets ready too. Indie wouldn’t like them though… she’s the center of attention in this apartment and she plans on keeping it this way. I can only imagine how your kitty will do with another.

I want a kitty the way other women want a baby. I was promised one this summer and summer is almost over. I has a sad.

Caprice looks fierce. I like Patina a lot, but mattes are tough for me to pull off because my lips are almost perpetually dry. Plus those look a little big to keep in my bra. Is that completely weird that I have started keeping my gloss in my bra? Most of my work pants don’t have pockets, and this way my gloss is nice and warm when I pull it out in the restroom and I don’t forget to bring it in the first place. 😀

My Friday was pretty good. I had dumb meetings all day but I impressed my boss and maybe his boss and maybe even HER boss. I celebrated with a stop at Target for some new nail polish. Picked up Rimmel’s Lasting Finish in Steel Grey. I was just not on board with this grey nails thing until recently, and this shade is awesome with my skin. Yay!

    Hi Karen–

After seeing pics on your blog of the new Stila Long Wear Liquid Lip Color, I paid a visit to my neighborhood Sephora last evening and bought Patina. I love it — so far.

It lasted on me the entire evening, about 5 hours, I’d say. The color pay off is huge, very rich, very pigmented, and very matte — all the qualities I like in a lip color. It’s a bit drying, but I applied some lip balm before applying.

However, what I think these need is a clear lip gloss (or even some Vaseline) over it. Otherwise, I get the 90’s lip look — very dry, ultra matte, with every line on my lips showing.

But I’m not complaining. I love this product. And the price is great.

Have a great weekend. These kitties are so cute.

Karen, I have to caution you about bringing a new cat into Tab’s territory. Sometimes it works out great, sometimes it’s a disaster – cats are not social like dogs, and tend to be solo animals. We had to take my son’s cat a couple years ago, and his cat was aggressive towards the cat we already had, who did not respond in kind, but endures constant attacks & bullying. Son’s cat pees ON KITHCHEN COUNTER & IN SINKS to establish territory, and lately has extended her territory to both litter boxes. So…. our cat has now taken to peeing outside the litter box because of anxiety. So I’m in cat HELL!!!! The only solution is to get rid of son’s cat, which will be a whole other issue. If you must have another feline, a female kitten may not be as threatening to the home boy, but be prepared to do it on a TRIAL basis, and don’t hesitate to return the kitten if it’s not going well, because it wil probably not get better.

I always look online (petfinder.com) for another pug friend from Captain but I worry I should wait until have a house (or I could just see how many pugs can fit into a single apartment). You did a good job resisting those adorable kitten faces. They would have all come home with me.

I got one not one here, Muse (more cool, light subdued pink) and I agree with Karen that it is a great overall coverage, a bit heavier and opaque/matte. Great for women who are busy in the office to reapply but my only recommendation so it doesn’t look soo dry is to swipe a bit of gloss over it as this acts a s lifesaver for no touchups. I put MAC clear lipglass over this for a pick me up. Love Stila and these kitties!

Those kittens are darling! I have 3 cats (all adopted as kittens, but the first two had to be adopted together), and they were all “splurge” purchases, but i just could not say no to those little faces!
I had to LOL about the TP, because my boyfriend decided that Charmin is his favorite, and told me not to buy Cotonelle anymore.
The Stila lip colors are gorgeous, but the second one looks so dry (I know you said that they weren’t though). How do they hold up with a clear-ish gloss on top?

And I hear you on being a Crazy Cat Lady. It is dangerous for me to go to the pet store on the weekends when they have kitten adoptions. I spend at least 30 minutes fawning all over the little guys every time.

Those are great kitty pics! I was getting my hair cut on Friday and my stylist is constantly rescuing abandoned kittens and trying to find good homes for them. The 2 she has now are sisters and are snuggly just like those in your first picture. The response I got when I returned home gushing was “Don’t even think about it… we are NOT having 5 cats!”. 🙂

Awwww kittens. Speaking as a CCL to another Karen you have to get one. I am totally in love with my kitten Vince. Even though i have scratches all over me. He just looks up at me with his little cute face and i melt. I finally have a lap cat 🙂
For a few weeks i had problems with my cat Gannet she didnt like him and just hissed and growled at him. And now the other day Gannet actually licked him.
If you do get one,if you can put them in a seperate room with toilet food and toys, then gradually introduce them to each other. That can help 🙂
