Sonia Kashuk Twist and Shout Kabuki Blush Brush: How Fast Can You Say Magic?

November 18th, 2009 by Karen 26 Comments

sonia kashuk twist and shout

In a perfect world, I’d always have at least 45 minutes to do my makeup. Not because it always takes that long, but because I like being able to take my time and relax.

Unfortunately, the clock doesn’t always cooperate, especially with the holidays approaching fast.

That’s why ’tis the season for makeup shortcuts! 🙂 I’m always looking for makeup time-savers, and one of my new favorites is Sonia Kashuk’s Twist & Shout Kabuki Blush Brush ($13).

Remember Sonia’s Twist of Fate brush set last week? Well, her new kabuki brush models the same twisted faux silver handle, which, like its sisters, broadcasts every smudgy fingerprint (aargh!), a flaw I can easily forgive.

Why?

Baby, you’re much too fast!

Twist & Shout screams! With it I’m able to apply and blend blush in half the time it takes me with a regular blush brush. Fantastic when I don’t have minutes to spare.

sonia kashuk twist and shout closeup

Like a wand, this brush exudes magic. When I rest Twist & Shout’s wide and slightly flattened brush head against my cheek, it covers the entire apple — a large swath of cheek! It’s able to blanket almost my entire cheek with a light-to-medium layer of color in just a couple quick swipes.

Can’t get enough Sonia? Check out her spectacular (and oh-so-affordable!) holiday sets…

  • Starry Eyes Palette ($15)
  • Classic Palette ($20)
  • Twist of Fate Brush Set ($20)

Works best with natural shades

I’ve tried Twist & Shout with several different blushes, and I think it works great with natural shades in peach, pink and golden bronze. I’ve been using it often it with my “Oh-Crap-I’m-Running-Late” blush colors: MAC Blushbaby, the NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo (this, after talking smack about Orgasm for years, oops!), MAC Sunbasque and Chanel Fresque.

A few strokes with this magic weapon and my cheeks look flushed and healthy, yay! Oh, and have I mentioned the price? Not bad for $13. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

You might like Sonia’s Twist and Shout Kabuki Brush if…

  • You don’t always have lots of time in the mornings to apply and blend
  • You like to wear natural peaches, pinks and bronzes on the apples of your cheeks
  • You like the look of super flushed cheeks

Migraines = misery

Heya, gals… I’m nursing a fierce migraine today — you know, the kind that feels like your brain is pulsating in your skull? I’ve had this one since last night, and I’m fairly worn out.

How’s your day been? Everything mellow, I hope?. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Aw, I hope you feel better soon! I used to get migraines a few years ago and they magically disappeared. Get lots of rest and take it easy today.

As far as the brush, I am intrigued by its magic to be able to apply blush in less time. Now I DEF need to go to Target!

I haven’t yet a kabuki brush, I desperately looked for one, but it seems that I can’t get the right one. From your description Karen, this one looks perfect for my needs. Thanks for sharing. I hope you will feel better and you migraine pass soon. I don’t know any advices, fortunately for me I don’t have these problems. Maybe 1-2 times I had a headache in rest I’m OK. Take care!

I really need a kabuki brush! I might ask for MAC’s for Christmas, since it’s cheaper than a trip to the US and back, LOL! Oh and answering your question back a few posts, we don’t get Tarte here either…just most department store brands and “global” drugstore brands (Rimmel, L’Oreal, Revlon, Maybelline, etc)
Hope you get better! Headaches suck…

      Hi Marce,

Aww, that’s too bad. They have some nice things that you’d probably like. Well, hopefully you’ll be able to come here sometime soon and go crazy at Sephora. 🙂

Hey Karen! I hope you feel better. I def feel your pain because I have frequent headaches and I actually woke up with one this morning. I usually get mine from lack of sleep. There’s really nothing I can do about it until I actually get some sleep. Tylenol did help a bit, though. Those rapid release gel capsules. They are heaven sent. 🙂

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

I’ll put those rapid release caps on my grocery list. 🙂

This is super cute!!…. and Karen my favorite elixir for getting rid of a migraine is Alka Seltzer extra strength + Orange soda of any sort. Everyone thinks it sounds so strange and then they try it and they think omg!

Migraines are the worst. If I can get it just dull enough to lay down and fall asleep that is always the best cure for me. Nothing really makes it go away until I sleep.

Now about that brush… I LOVE when you can find affordable products that actually WORK. I could definitely use a fuller brush these days so I might just have to try this one out!! Thanks for the review!

I love makeup shortcuts! I find that with regular makeup blush brushes such as MAC 129, I tend to pick up either too much colour or too little. I would love to try this one out for a super flushed cheek look.

So sorry to hear about your migraine, I hope you feel better super-soon!

Ooooh, I’m always up for a good blush brush! My faves are the angled type that let me effortlessly sculpt & define the ol’ cheekbones!

Ah, the migraine. I know thee well. The worst ones are when they hurt so bad it doesn’t feel like your in pain until you move your head or blink and everything makes your head hurt, even the dark. Those normally include upset tummy too. I hope Tibby Tabs is keeping you company.

I’m currently finishing up my gender & sexuality essay. It’s raining too. Ich.

    Feel better soon!

Awwww, hope you feel better soon!! I also suffer from migraine and I can definitely empathize. =/ *hugs*
