With the Right Brush, Everything’s Coming Up Roses for Milani’s New Rose Powder Blushes

That’s $7.99 Milani Rose Powder Blush in Tea Rose on my cheeks

Everything did not come up roses the first time I used Milani’s Rose Powder Blushes…

I made the mistake of using a cheek brush with a small, dense brush head to apply one and ended up with so much color on my cheeks that I looked like a Harlequin clown doll/vaudeville performer.

Milani Rose Powder Blushes from the left: Coral Cove, Tea Rose and Romantic Rose ($7.99 each)
The Milani Rose Powder Blushes from the left in Coral Cove, Tea Rose and Romantic Rose ($7.99 each)

The three available shades are preternaturally pigmented and matte, and therefore forgiving (pore issues, yo!), but they can look scary intense (think painted circles of bright pink) if applied willy-nilly with the wrong brush, i.e. blush brushes with a small, dense head. Same goes for large, fluffy blush brushes.

In case I haven’t stressed it enough, these blushes are VERY pigmented, and I get the best, most natural-looking results when I chill out and use a medium-sized, moderately dense duo fiber brush.

But I think a fan brush would also work well.

The flat finish looks divine in pics, and I dig the colors, which remind me of beloved shades I wear all the time, like MAC Blushbaby (01 Romantic Rose), and Chanel Malice (05 Coral Cove).

If these blushes didn’t have a logo or any branding, I’d assume they were from Sephora or Nordstrom and quite a bit more expensive (they’re $7.99 for a 0.60-oz. pan). There’s also no funny business with the fine powders. They sit on top of my skin, don’t require a lot of buffing, and last all day long.

Romantic Rose is a matte pinkish beige, Tea Rose a matte neutral rosy pink, and Coral Cove a warm poppy.

You might remember Coral Cove from last spring. This new version is more or less the same, but Milani added rose oil (although I don’t detect a scent).

Being highly pigmented, these aren’t the easiest blushes to apply, but like anything, practice makes perfect.

I guess my biggest concern with these is their practicality. Not being able to just grab the closest blush brush (as one can do with Chanel Malice or the Hourglass Ambient Blushes) is something of a thorn in their side, but they have a lot of potential and a great price.

Might just take some time to really figure ’em out.

PRICE: $7.99 for a large 0.60-oz. pan
AVAILABILITY: Available now online and at drugstores, including CVS

Hi Melissa if you are still looking for the blushes, Well.ca sells them. That is where I get all my milani products.

Yesterday I popped into CVS to look for some Milani blushes (they’re my favorite drugstore blushes), and they were doing a cosmetics inventory, with all the male employees pulling product and putting out new displays. I lurked for as long as possible, trying not to be a huge creep, but after 15 minutes of looking around corners to see if I could squeeze between some of the guys and grab some blushes, I left.
Reading that back to myself, I realize I am a creep. I’m okay with that. I can’t wait to get my hands on these blushes, though!
Thank you for the feature, Karen! It really brightened my day!

I’m really digging these colors! Especially Romantic Rose. I might just pick up MAC Blushbaby or Dame, though… I would NEVER finish a .6 oz blush!

This blush would be PERFECT for the Wayne Goss Brush #14. It’s not a dense brush so it’s perfect for picking up highly-pigmented blushers, but the head is small and precise enough that it makes application a breeze.

You know you’re getting just a wee bit too uppity when you see a pretty rose pattern like this and think “it’s nice but it’s not Chanel”. And by “you”, I of course mean “me”. 🙂 I love that Coral Cove has a little Malice going on but I definitely need to grab and go. Blush is the thing I spend the least amount of time on, so I don’t want it to be fussy. That said, it looks really pretty!

These look very pretty indeed! For some reason, I have this strange obsessive preference for ultra-pigmented/bright blushes, even though I’m a vampire. My favourite blush is Chanel Affinite, and if I ever venture into NARS blushes, I will be starting with Exhibit A!

I just…apply sparingly with my fingers and blend until my arm drops off. It might be my finger application method, now that I think of it… 😉

I love all the makeup you are wearing in this post. I will be buying all three blushes. I would like to know exactly what you are wearing on your lips?
Anything else you are wearing would be helpful. You look so pretty.

I purchased the three of these the design of the Rose is so gorgeous I could not resist. I love all shades and find Tea Rose and Coral Rose beautiful on my cool pale skin! Romantic Rise has a more mauve touch which I’d love for winter better. But all three go on absolutely gorgeous! I being using my WetnWild brushes for both Milany roses and baked blushes and they pack a light touch just wonderful. To apply highliter also. Loving the brushes and such great products and brushes for drugstores deals. ?
