Product Review – Four Floral Scents for Summer

June 22nd, 2007 by Karen 1 Comment

Makeup and Beauty Blog’s SCENTS OF SUMMER series continues with four light floral perfumes which are perfect for humid days and hot nights.

I love perfume but I don’t like wearing heavy fragrance when the temperature heats up. Currently I’m rotating between these four summer scents:

Philosophy Amazing Grace
This subtle fragrance is made up of light floral blossoms mixed with musk. The bottle is clean, classic and simple. The scent reminds me of clean laundry and freshly shampooed hair. I like to think of this scent as “man friendly.” My hubby, who thinks every perfume I own smells like “old ladies playing bridge,” actually likes this scent. This is a good evening scent and perfect for date night. Pair it with your lil’ black dress, some hot high heels and you are good to go. $35.00 for a 2-ouce eau de toilette spray.

Scoop NYC
For hot and humid days try a spritz of this perfume, which is a floral bouquet of pear blossom, tangerine zest, white peony, jasmine, pink freesia, and a subtle note of musk. I keep it in the fridge because I like the sensation of a cool splash of perfume on my just-showered skin. This is lighter than Amazing Grace and is great for hot and humid weekends, and is a perfect for days when you’re rockin’ your tank top, favorite jeans, and broken-in flip flops. $65.00 for a 2-ounce bottle of eau de parfum.

Annick Goutal Des Lys
I have a soft spot for this perfume because I bought it in France when I was at the Annick Goutal boutique. (My French is limited but I somehow know enough to be able to shop like a mo’ fo’ in a foreign country, go figure.) Des Lys is a mix of white and Casablanca lilies. It’s a very fresh, green scent, like the smell of stems of fresh cut flowers. Des Lys is light and sophisticated, and makes me think of a white, crisp linen dress paired with simple gold jewelry. This was a limited edition scent and I can no longer find it at Nordstrom, but I have seen it for sale online on ebay.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
I wore this scent on my wedding day, so every time I put it on I can’t help but smile. Dolce & Gabbana has notes of Sicilian citron, bluebell, granny smith apple, jasmine sambac, bamboo, white rose, cedarood and amber. I’ve smelled this on several different women and it seems to vary widely depending on your body chemistry. I get a lot of lemon and rose notes when I wear this. It’s the perfect scent for an outdoor summer wedding =) $42.50 for 0.8 oz eau de toilette spray.

It’s finally Friday and I’m so happy that the sun is out. Right now I’m writing this post from the bookstore and I’m drinking an ice tea and people watching. I love summer Fridays!

I know ya’ll are ready for the weekend. Be safe, wear your sunscreen and have some fun in the sun!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have been reading your old entries and it makes me more addicted to your blog. D&G Light Blue is my fave scent. I love it.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
