Like other classic pairings — peanut butter and chocolate, Lady and the Tramp, Ryan Gosling and shirtless-ness — the purple and bronze Larger Than Life Eyeliners ($23 each) in the new NARS Holiday 2011 collection are even better together than they are apart.
If you haven’t tried any of the Larger Than Life liners yet, the cosmetics camaraderie between vibrant violet St. Marks Place (has a matte finish) and shimmery bronze Campo De’ Fiori, the only two liners in the holiday release, makes them a great place to start.
Both of these highly pigmented, super soft liners cling to lash and water lines like raindrops cling to roses. I applied both of them before lunch yesterday, and they were still hanging tough a full eight hours later.
For even more NARS Holiday 2011 coverage…
I haven’t had an opportunity to put their water resistance through a rigorous test like the nervous breakdown I had in the middle of heavy traffic a while back, but since the other colors managed it well, I see no reason why these wouldn’t also be up to the task.
If you’re curious about eye color and looking for ways to incorporate more of it into your looks, here’s one idea: apply purple St. Marks along your upper lashes, and bronze Campo along your lower lashes and at the inner corners of your eyes (the sides closest to your nose). I’m wearing both of them here with a smokey blue/bronze/gray eye (using the NARS Mandchourie Eyeshadow Duo from this same collection), but you could just as easily wear them with other colors or have them fly solo on bare lids.
I think they also play well with the rest of the blues, browns and reds in the holiday collection, which is great if you’ve found any other products in the release that you like.
Some pairings just work, ya know? Detectives Stabler and Benson were capable crime fighters by themselves…but when they teamed up, BAM! Look out evildoers of New York, New York (still missin’ ya, Christopher Meloni!). 🙂
PRICE: $23 each
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to NARS counters and available now online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (based on the other colors I’ve tried, I’m assuming a five-hour wear time along the water line)

Wow Karen!
I’ve never tried NARS eyeliners, but I really dig the gold.

I’m liking St. Mark’s Place. I can’t find myself to purchase one because I have almost every shade of the rainbow in UD 24/7 liners. NARS is really stepping up their offerings though with their Larger Than Life collections. I might just have to try 😉

If I didn’t already own a million zillion eyeliners I would buy both of these!
How has your Friday been Karen? I did exactly what I said I was going to do earlier- curl up on the couch with my dogs and watch TV!

Thanks for the close-ups! I’ve got similar eyeliners on hand (there was a deal for 4 holiday Smashbox eyeliners at Sephora last year) so I’m dying to try this look. 🙂

I’m still watching SVU out of loyalty, but every episode without Stabler is like a dagger to the heart.

Siiigh, we all still miss Meloni. I was hoping the show would step up the Munch/Fin factor to help fill the void, but it hasn’t happened. 🙁
Speaking of Munch, I’ve been going on a binge of Homicide: Life on the Street, the show where Munch’s character originated (because I clearly needed another crime procedural to follow). If you haven’t seen it, it’s good!
