Gym Beauty Tips: Philosophy The Supernatural Lipgloss

December 8th, 2007 by Karen 17 Comments

Put this Gloss in Your Gym Bag, ASAP

What: Philosophy’s The Supernatural Lipgloss in Mauve
The Road Test: An hour’s worth of uber-sweaty cardio on the treadmill
Why: ‘Cause you gotta look cute, even at the gym
How much: $15.00

I gotta give props to my girls out there who can work on their fitness at the gym sans makeup. I wish I could rock the au natural look when I’m lifting weights or running, but, unfortunately, others might mistake me for the living dead if I don’t at least slap on a little lipgloss.

I’m always on the hunt for gym-friendly glosses. Besides helping me look cute (haaay!), my favorite lipglosses…

Look natural. At the gym, I try to wear colors that appear within the realm of natural color possibility. Nothing too sparkly or dark.
Apply easily.
Aren’t sticky.
Have no overwhelming smell or taste. I don’t want to be running for an hour with the scent of strawberries up in my grill.
Have good staying power.

Before I left for the gym today, I curled my lashes, patted concealer under my eyes, and applied a light layer of mauve Philosophy’s The Supernatural Lipgloss, my new favorite gym buddy.

How do I love The Supernatural Lipgloss? Let me count the ways…

Rich, highly-pigmented shade of pink that still looks natural. I barely have to put any on my lips to get full coverage. The result is a flushed, just kissed look!
High shine.
Easy to apply.
Non-sticky formula.
Light mint scent. It perks me up for my workout but fades quickly, so I don’t have to smell mint the entire time, YES!

It has a subtle cooling effect on my lips and, when combined with the mint, delivers a nice pre-workout boost. Plus, I feel cute wearing it. Love it!

What’s your favorite gym lipgloss?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

When I’m at aikido, I gotta have my Stila plumping lip glaze in vanilla mint! It has a pleasant minty scent with a hint of vanilla and it has a light, minty tingle that makes my lips flush ever-so-slightly with that “oh, no, my lips are naturally this lovely shade!” look! The best part is that it’s a clear gloss with just a hint of apricot-gold shimmer so if my white gi brushes my face (which happens more often than you might think!) it doesn’t get pink gloss-smears on it! It’s very moisturizing and lasts through a full two-hour workout of throwing and being thrown! I love, love, love recommending this gloss to others who want to look pretty while they exercise! 😀

P.S. It’s a little on the pricey side, $24, but it lasts a long time and Stila’s pen-style dispenser is super-convenient!

Girl, I’m on it! I don’t mind pricey as long as it works and lasts a long, long time.

I thought of you today … I was watching a reality TV show and there was a girl who took Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and she was all up in her partner’s grill, wrestling and whatnot! I started to cringe and El Hub said, “You know, doing that would get you over your personal space issues REALLY QUICKLY.”

I have been lemming your Chanel foundation SO BADLY! I ended up buying a few cheaper alternatives to take the edge off. Such an addict!

I’ve never tried those, I love MAC. I will pick some up next time I go to Longs. Is there a particular shade that’s your fave?

I think you’ll love the gloss, and really, the amount you get for the price is quite generous! It’s lasted me almost a year in my dojo bag!

Hee hee, yeah! I have to admit, I don’t mind getting close to people, but even I have some “personal space” issues. “But Sensei,” I say “it’s just not POLITE to position my knee against the back of their head when I do a sitting pin!” Everyone is very understanding, though, and they all know that everyone has their own level of comfort to live with! I know you can do it!!! 🙂

I have to say, I am LOVING that foundation! The funny part is that when I apply it, I don’t like it! It smells funny (kinda like clay) and feels sort of strange. After I blend it though (with fingers or a brush or sponge… they all work well) and it sits for a minute or two, something magical happens! It vanishes and I’m left with flawless skin and no makeup (or so it would appear)! Really, it just sinks in and looks so amazingly natural, I’m astonished! It’s the perfect shade for my skin, it has just the right amount of matte and shine, and even though I have dry skin it never dries me out or cakes into my fine lines — yeah, I smile a lot, ok? 😉 Long story short… when I’m applying it I think “why did I buy this again?” and when I look in the mirror a minute later I think “Oh YEAH! *That’s* why I bought this!!!”

It’s so cool that you do Aikido, Glosslizard. I want to take martial arts too, but I’m so busy at work. Do you mind if I ask you ow much does it cost you a month and why you chose to take aikido?

    Hi SarahM!

Thanks for asking! My dojo charges about $90 per month, which, considering that I go three or more times per week, is a real deal! Of course it varies from dojo to dojo, but that’s what I’m paying! I chose to take aikido because I saw it and fell in love! It’s a non-aggressive martial art, the way of the peaceful warrior if you will! Basically, it teaches how to disarm or neutralize an opponent without doing harm! Of course it takes a lot of skill and practice to get to that point, but it’s a worthy goal! This appeals to my pacifistic nature while also fulfilling my desire to be able to kick ass! 🙂 There’s a lot of learning how to fall and take rolls, so it’s kind of a gymnastic martial art and, finally, everybody at my dojo is just SO DARN COOL! Most of the aikidoists I’ve met tend to be very cool, mellow, and generally worth knowing! Our Sensei in particular has the most generous and welcoming spirit! So again, I can’t speak for all dojos, but that’s how I got sucked into aikido, learned how to be thrown and… lost three clothing sizes!

    P.S. Sorry if I ramble on, but it’s a bit of a passion! 😀

    OMG, Glosslizard,

I’m so stoked to try it. After I do some chores (sigh) then I can get it. I can’t wait!

Oh yah – fact that you dropped three dress sizes is awesome. That is hard work. Congrats!

Although I don’t have small TWINS, I put this lovely size of gloss in my sports bra and, voila, I am never without my shiny pucker.

    Love your blog!

My only negative: so few colors to choose from. I love Mauve and may try Soft Pink next.

    Tuprnut!

I got Pink…it’s *very* shimmery and light. Under the right circumstances it’s pretty, though.

Every time I smell these glosses they make me want to eat candy canes or peppermint ice cream.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
