L’Occitane Lavender Hand Cream: A Bedtime Treat

October 4th, 2008 by Karen 27 Comments

My skin gets progressively drier as the temperature drops, and I’ve officially entered seasonal hand cream overdrive. My new favorite, L’Occitane’s Lavender Hand Cream ($28), smells divine.

Fast Absorbing, No SPF

It contains moisturizing shea butter, lavender essential oil, rosemary extract and vitamin E, but, unlike Neutrogena Age Shield Hand Cream, my go-to daytime hand cream, L’Occitane Lavender does not contain SPF.

Despite the lack of sun protection, I dig how quickly it absorbs (and doesn’t leave my hands feeling greasy), despite its thick consistency, and feel that it’s fantastic for use at night.

Relaxing Lavender Scent

I’ve made Lavender Hand Cream part of my nightly ritual. Sometimes I have trubs getting restful sleep, so I try to do things to signal to my body when it’s time to go to bed, like turning off the computer an hour before bedtime (LOL, this one is so hard!) and sipping chamomile tea.

L’Occitane’s subtle lavender and powder fragrance definitely helps me unwind. In bed I massage a bead the size of a jelly bean into my hands and wrists and let the scent soothe me to sleep.

Pricey, but a Little Goes a Long Way

L’Occitane’s Lavender Hand Cream might not be as budget-friendly as many drugstore hand creams like $6 Neutrogena Age Shield Hand Cream, but the 5.2-oz tube should last a while. It’s a luxurious nighttime indulgence, and in today’s busy world we need all the help we can get.

L’Occitane Lavender Hand Cream

Price: $28 for a large 5.2-oz tube
Use: A moisturizing hand cream with a soothing lavender scent; contains no SPF
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

I wanted to make this a productive weekend, but so far I’ve just fooled around, gahhh! I better get on the ball here before it’s too late. That laundry ain’t gonna do itself! 🙂

Karen

I like this product and use it at night. The soothing scent of the lavender relaxes me. I like the unscented one for work though. Makes my hands feel so nice.

I love this hand cream! I have a big tube on my bedside table, meaning I use it at night but also during the day and I also keep one small tube at the office and another in my purse. You just can’t have enough of this!

    HI Marisol,

I agree — the scent is very relaxing, especially just as you’re getting ready for bed. I haven’t tried the unscented one. If the consistency is the same I’d probably like it…

    Hi Ana,

I will probably end up getting a small tube to keep in the car. 🙂 I like that you don’t have to use much of it, either, and a little really does go a long way. What other things from L’Occitane do you like?

“trubs” you are adorable. ^.^ Get some work done! I usually procrastinate and push all of my work for Sunday night.

Hi Karen. I have been using this hand cream every night for about four months now. I love its texture! My tube is finishing and I am planning to buy another tube. 🙂 Oh, about the fragence, when I just started on the new tube, the fragence was very strong. But after about two months, the fragence seems to have subsided a little.

I love L’occitane, I’ve used their regular hand cream before and I loved it so I’ll have to try this out next time I order from there!

This is my fav hand cream. It is pricey, so I limit my use to nighttime, just like you.

I love this hand cream, but I only have it every now and then as a treat as I tend to be lazy when it comes to applying. The idea of putting it on before bed as part of a ritual is a really good idea!

If you’re looking for other products in their range, I definitely recommend the Shea Butter Foot Cream too…its amazing!

Hope you’re having a good weekend!

Lol! 😀 This is fun. I’m doing exactly what Jessica said on her comment!
Right now I’m loving Hand care cream by Beauty Credit (it’s a Korean brand) but I still wanna try that one by L’Occitane! Lavender is so relaxing. Actually, I wanna try anything by L’Occitane, since we don’t have that brand here. Sigh.
    How was your weekend, Karen?

i love the l’occitane lavender line, but i find it’s too pricey for a starving student such as myself… although i sometimes do score a tube, when i pass through duty free (and once i was lucky enough to score a miniature tube on a flight on air france)!

l’eau de recolte bleue (the perfume from this line) is great on sheets. if i could afford it i would just launder my linens in them. the other lavenders don’t even compare!

This stuff is so awesome. I love the entire L’Occitane line, actually. I used to work at Bath and Body Works and they sold this stuff, so I’d get a discount on it (um, holla! :P). I don’t know if they still sell this stuff, but I love all of it. This lotion is great. It’s a little greasy, but it goes away pretty quickly.

This cream is excellent. I use it daily at night and it has really relaxes me due to the smoothing smell of lavender.

    Hi Miss QQ,

Hmm, that’s interesting. Maybe you happened to get a tube from a strongly scented batch.

I am looking forward to using this again tonight!

    Hi Eru,

It was great. Yesterday I didn’t really do much, but today I was very productive. I managed to clean up most of my space and get a lot done.

I didn’t get to paint my toes, though. Boo!

    How was yours, m’dear?

    Hi Ines,

I just put down that perfume on my list. I love falling asleep to relaxing scents so when I go to the mall I’m going to give it a sniff. Thanks!

    Hi Brittany,

Nice! I practically live at Bath and Body Works when the holidays roll around. I end up picking up a lot of random gifts and stocking stuffers there.

ooh, i love this cream! i’ve never tried the lavender scent one, but i love the light scent of the original version.

i have a question, do you reccomend gel eyeliner or pencil eyeliner (i don’t like liquid)? and what brands would you reccomend?

    Hey Karen

No problem – if I remember rightly its a little bit lavender-y too, so great for bedtime.

I’m planning on trying out Bliss Foot Patrol sometime in the next couple of months so I’ll let you know how that one goes too if you like.

The tattoo healing is going okay. Its a multi-coloured itchy scab at the moment and I’m really suffering not being able to have a bath or a long shower. I think I’m healing pretty quickly so hopefully in another week I’ll be able to soak!
