Like Snickers, Bite Beauty Define & Refine Lip Set Really Satisfies

March 21st, 2011 by Karen 61 Comments

Bite Beauty Define & Refine Lip Set
Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate

Sometimes you just need a quick snack to quiet the rumbling in your tummy, ya know? Not a full-on meal. Just a quick snack, like when Vampire Bill takes a sip from Sookie (Ha! I almost typed “Snookie”) while they’re “having relations.”

In a way, Bite Beauty’s new Define & Refine Lip Set ($36) is like a quick snack. You get to taste three full-size Bite lip products without having to pay full price. Purchased separately, they’d cost $68, or almost twice the price of the set.

The trio of treats includes…

  • Lip Shine in Prosecco — Interesting! This sheer nude gloss smells to me like a mix of Play-Doh and Sweet Tarts. Thankfully, the scent and sugary flavor fade fast. The medium-weight formula doesn’t feel sticky on my lips, and it lasts about two and a half hours. I’m glad Bite included a doe-foot applicator because it makes application a snap.
  • High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate — The pigment in this blue-based red? To die for. It’s almost too good to be true. Despite its light and creamy texture (both unscented and unflavored), this pencil still manages to retain a long-lasting true matte finish. What we have here is one elegant lippie, young lady, and probably the best thing I’ve tried from the Bite line so far.
  • Luminous Creme Lipstick in Rose — One layer of this dark pink lipstick delivers full coverage color that may not make it through a meal, but it should resist fading for a solid four hours between them. Like the pencil, this pigmented beauty is unscented and unflavored, and it’s wonderfully moisturizing, too.

Like other products in the Bite Beauty line, these are made with food-grade goodies like resveratrol, a potent antioxidant and Bite’s signature ingredient. If you’d like to hear more about what puts the bite in Bite Beauty, check out Resveratrol, and Not Vampires, Puts the Bite in Bite Beauty Lip Products.

I think Bite did a pretty good job picking the colors for this set. These are shades that should work well on a wide range of skin tones, and the overall quality, pigment and price make it a pretty great deal. If I could only recommend one thing from the Bite line so far, without a doubt, this would be it.

Wow Karen, that red looks fabulous om you! Being cool toned, I like blue based reds so I may have to try this set out. What do you think about the Bite beauty line overall? Do you think the price is worth it?

Also, when you said “having relations” I could hear Eddie Murphy from The Nutty Professor as the grandma saying it. I haven’t thought about that movie in years…

      Hi Jessi,

I think the pigmented items in tubes are really good. Definitely check out the lipsticks, pencils and the sheer lip balms (which don’t really seem to be sheer at all). 🙂

Thanks Karen! And when you said the name of the lip gloss, Prosecco, for a second i thought you had said Prosciutto. I was wondering why they would name a lip gloss after ham!

I definitely read Snookie instead of Sookie the first time, did a double take, and then went back and reread it. Correctly. I’ve been on a red lip kick lately (er mostly just around the house), so this set looks absolutely perfect. Do they sell the lip pencil alone? That’s the one I’m mainly eyeing.

I got it as a sample from my last Sephora order (Feb), so I’ve been using it for a little over a month. I really like it and I think it’s worked better than any of the others I’ve tried (Murad, Clinique, Olay, MD Skincare, Clarins). I know it’s really subjective but I feel like my eye area is firmer and less wrinkly. 🙂

i love that lip pencil on you! seems like you tend to favor glosses and pinky lippies, so to see a bold red lip is totally refreshing. SO GLAD the pomegranate has no scent. i was reading your summary for the Prosecco lipshine and my stomach nearly turned. i can’t stand scented lipcolors (it’s the reason i am ever faithful to NARS and MUFE, and why i can’t use Hourglass), and that color payoff looks too good to be true.

when you say long-lasting, what kind of staying power and fade are we talking about? e.g., my Sephora lippie fades from the same Pomegranate red to a gorgeous fuschia after 8+ hrs, INCLUDING lunch and constant snacking.
