I’m Getting a Charge Out of Dior Electric Tropics Nude Healthy Glow Powder in Sunset

March 16th, 2011 by Karen 58 Comments

dior electric tropics

Hey, cutie. Remember the Dior Electric Tropics collection you and I drooled over last week? Today I spent some time getting to know one of the limited edition Nude Healthy Glow Powders, Sunset #002 ($46), and now we’re officially attached.

Sunset’s a warm orangey brown with coral accents (like a blush version of MAC Soft Brown Eyeshadow), and I swear it’s just as gorgeous in person as it is in the promo pics. Here I’m wearing it on my cheeks as a blush, but I also tried (and liked) it as a bronzer and an all-over face powder.

Additional makeup worn in this look: Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Golds 569, MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge, LORAC Front of the Line Pro Liner, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener, Becca Ultimate Mascara and Benefit Brows A-Go-Go on eyes; MAC Lipglass in Lychee Luxe on lips

For me, the mostly matte finish is what makes this stand out in a crowd. It gives off just the faintest touch of shimmer and looks fresh and weightless on the skin.

Even though it’s a summer release, I could see myself wearing this all year round, even on blustery days as a bronzer to warm my pale skin (well, pale for me). Knowing I could reach for it often soothes the sting from the price…a little.

The Nude Healthy Glow Powder in Sunset and the rest of the eclectic Electric Tropics Collection hit Dior counters and stores nationwide this summer.

PRICE: $46 (ouch!)
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Dior counters and stores
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (an A if not for the price)

I know they’re out of season, but…

I’ve been craving tomatoes lately, so last night I made this quick tomato salad, which I served with pan fried salmon, steamed broccoli and brown rice, YUM!

Isn’t it pretty? It’s one of my favorite simple salads to eat with fish, chicken or fried tofu. And it’s a cinch to make. The tomatoes are mini-heirlooms from Trader Joe’s. All I did was chop them up, add a dash of sea salt and pepper, and mix. I thought about drizzling some olive oil on top… I bet that would have been even more delicious, but the salmon was already rich.

Enough about my unseasonable fruit cravings. St. Patrick’s Day is here!

Do you have any plans? El Hub and I might visit a local Irish bar tomorrow night, but Tabs can’t go because last year he partied too hard and got himself banned.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

No plans to go out, but I’ll be making one of my favorite dishes which is kinda, sorta Irish in inspiration. It’s basically some cooked, diced potatoes sauteed with onions, sliced veggie sausages, and a bag of shredded green cabbage. It’s yummy, easy, and perfect for a rainy day.

I like the Trader Joe’s brand of Italian Sausage that they carry in the deli section right where all the soy products are. They carry another national brand of veggie Italian sausage (Yves, I think), but I find that one has too much sundried tomato/basil flavor going on that tends to overpower everything else in the dish.

The weave effect is so beautiful and so’s the colour, but I like the design more and proabably would worship it as a piece of art and be scared to ruin the motif by using it, lol.

Tabs’s looking pretty intently at the camera in that photo above – was there a green leprechaun dancing off camera?

I agree with you on the tomatoes and, even though they’re almost always out of season here, I eat the Campari version all year long. Nothing compares to tomatoes here in August, but these are still nice. Tomato salad (and caprese) are 2 of my favorite things! 🙂

Nothing says warm weather like a fresh tomato salad! I like mine with fresh basil….yum!

that salad looks awesome … i am a huge tomato fan too! we make a similar salad, the only diff is i cut the tomatoes in half, do a quick grill on a stove top grill pan to give it a bit of a charred flavor, then add salt, tomatoes and the littlest bit of sugar. its lovely with fish and chicken and even as a side to a good sandwich!

That’s a great idea! I have a non-stick grill pan that I got a few years back that I hardly ever use… I dunno, the char doesn’t ever seem to come out quite right. Maybe I’m not turning the heat up enough?

its probly the heat. if all else fails – spray some nonstick cooking spray in a pan and just warm the tomatoes up …. it makes the juices run out more, and kinda makes a natural dressing for the tomato salad.

you can also add cubed cucumbers or chopped onions! 🙂

This bronzer itself looks SO pretty, and it looks great on you. I also like that it is fairly matte and would be much more appropriate to use in the colder months. So you aren’t a shimmer ball of bronzer. Even in the summer I always feel like my bronzer is too shimmery!

      Hi Megan,

It’s really easy. I just warm up a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan, sprinkle some salt and pepper on some salmon filets, and then fry it right up. When it’s done I let the salmon rest on some paper towels to soak up the excess grease and then squeeze lemon on top. Super simple!
