I Spy Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Midnight

Watch yo’ back, Jason Bourne. If I were a super spy, I’d totally keep a bottle of Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer ($20) with me to wield against my adversaries. The sleek bottle (lovin’ the embossed gold cap) doubles as a combination camera/GPS locator/flame thrower/Sonicare toothbrush!

Just kidding. 🙂

But before I painted my nails with it last Sunday, I actually checked to see if my bottle of shimmery dark purple Midnight had any gadgets embedded on the D.L.

Comparable to Chanel and Dior

I think Midnight’s a regal, all eyes-on-you kinda color — a rich, shimmery purple that looks like royalty on fingertips and toes.

Like the third bowl of porridge in The Story of the Three Bears, the thickness is juuust right (not too thick or too thin), and the brilliant shine and opaque coverage (I’ve been using two coats) remind me of something Chanel or Dior would whip up.

Seems durable

As for durability, so far, so good. I’ve been wearing Midnight on top of Essie First Base Coat since Sunday and have yet to see any major chippage.

Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Midnight

Price: $20
Use: A shimmery deep purple polish that’s a little on the expensive side
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

You might like Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Midnight if …

  • you like Chanel and Dior nail polishes;
  • you’re looking for a regal dark purple; and/or
  • you’re in the mood to splurge.

Midnight’s one of 11 Dolce & Gabbana nail polish shades currently available online at Saks.

It’s expensive, for sure, but stands up pretty well compared to other polishes in the same price range.

So You Think You Can Dance?

Are there any other So You Think You Can Dance? fans out there who caught last night’s episode??

I had to giggle when Evan got his N-A-S-T-Y on in the Janet Jackson routine.

That boy’s cute, but he’s so far from nasty it ain’t even funny. He tried, though, bless his heart.

Who’s your pick to win it all? I’m pulling for Brandon and Jeanine! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Brandon! If not Brandon, then Jeanine (she blew me away with her solo last night), then Kayla, and I’ll be pretty mad if Evan wins. I seriously don’t understand his fan base . . . he’s a sweetie and all, but he can only do his style well. The other three definitely outdanced him last night, for sure!

      Hi Hyzenthlay,

Did you catch the show last night? I was kind of p.o.’d about Kayla getting fourth place!

      I’m happy Jeanine won, though!

You know what would make a great outfit? A black pencil skirt, white blouse, a black belt, that nail polish, a pink lip with eyeliner on the top lash line, and those lust worthy Anthropologie shoes that you featured yesterday. That would be a drop dead gorgeous outfit.

Or, you could replace the nail polish Parlez-vous OPI? That’d be drop dead gorgeous also.

Looove that purple, but I dont know. Am I the only one who hates the square bottles? chanel, D&G, lancome, great colors but I have a very hard time holding the square tops!

      Hi Rosie,

Oh, good news — the square part lifts off! Tucked away inside is a round, black regular old nail polish cap (much like Chanel’s). It’s easy to hold and use.

That is a gorgeous shade! I like the square bottle — it has a sophisticated look to it. I might have to find a look-alike by OPI (cheaper) 🙂

      Hi Michelle,

I like the square bottle, too. These are also unusually tall — I think they’d look really pretty lined up on a dresser.

Hm, I imagine a dinner with El Hub would be a good reason. I doesn’t have to be anywhere really expensive but a cafe with wine and dinner would be a good reason.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
