I Draw the Line at Soft Edges with Golden Chanel Ligne Extreme in Or

November 19th, 2011 by Karen 15 Comments

Chanel Or Ligne Extreme (2)

I felt a sudden gold rush the first time Chanel’s Ligne Extreme in Or touched my lids!

Team Coco developed this $32 liquid liner, part of Chanel’s holiday 2011 affair, to draw crisp, intensely golden lines with a single stroke, and they bestowed upon it a water-resistant formula to help it last through wintery downpours.

We’ve played together a couple of times over the past two weeks, but the last time things got a tad tense… Or, which means “gold” en français, has a tendency to over-apply.

It has a consistency on the thicker side for liquid liners, but patting or swiping away any excess from the brush before bringing it my eye definitely helps. As long as I remember to do that every time, I’m able to draw fairly smooth, even lines with it — albeit lines with softer edges than I’m used to from most liquid liners. It seems that the combination of a thick formula and a delicate brush make drawing super crisp lines with it a challenge, at least for me.

I still think Ligne Extreme looks lovely and has top-notch pigment and shine. It also holds up well to water, which is another plus. As far as its resilience under pressure, though, be careful if you rub your eyes a lot (I know I’m not supposed to, but sometimes I slip!). I did a few times this week, and Or rubbed right off.

PRICE: $32

That’s a bummer that the formula isn’t great. But that shade of gold looks gorgeous on you!

Thanks for the review! I have been considering buying this since it came out. I’ll save my cash for another Illusion Long Wear eyeshadow. 🙂

How does it compare to the gold Mac Superslick or the other gold liquid liners to come out recently?

Beautiful shade! But too bad for the slight difficulty in applying.

The color is pretty, but I like crisper lines too. :/

Have you tried it with a different brush? It looks like the applicator isn’t really the right shape for the viscosity of the liner.

This shade is definitely something that I gravitate towards, but too bad the formula is not that great. =(

Awww, a pity it isn’t that resilient! Would’ve made a really nice eyeliner otherwise. Very pretty gold color!

Ugh, Karen, I was hoping you would review this. I bought it and I completely agree with you. It is very difficult to apply. I’m glad that I am not the only one who had that problem, I thought maybe I was just too clumsy for it. For that price, I think I’m going to take it back.

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
