Life is a mystery, and no matter what we learn about the world around us, it seems as if every answer leads to more questions.
Questions like…
Why is it physically impossible to eat just one spoonful of Häagen-Dazs ice cream?
Is Dillon Panther tailback Tim Riggins really a misunderstood genius?
What is Tabs thinking in his little kitty brain when he rushes into the loo to watch me, um, handle my business (swear to you, I don’t think I’ve had one minute of potty privacy since this cat came into my life)?
And then there are also makeup mysteries, like the new Chanel Glossimer in — yup, you guessed it! — Mystery ($29.50).
Yes, my fellow Chanel lovers, once again, Coco and Co. are doing nude, glossy lips in their latest limited edition launch, Eclats du Soir de Chanel.
Mystery, a medium pigmented creamy pinkish brown, guest stars as one of three Glossimers in the holiday release, and I can’t deny the chemistry it shares with the smokier, darker eyeshadows in the collection’s Nuit-Claire duo and Harmonie quad.
Nude lips and smokey eyes are like the peanut butter and jelly combo of my makeup world. I’ve been loving them for years because they’re just so blasted wearable (um…the look, not the sandwich), and Mystery has “wearable nude gloss” written all over it.
I guess the $64,000 question comes down to this: is Mystery a must-have?
Well, like last fall’s Sweet Beige, Mystery lacks that certain disco/wow factor that some of the sassier Glossimers like Astral have.
But really, how often does one wear a sparkly hot pink lipgloss? Speaking for myself, I only reach for mine on rare occasions, like when I go to dinner with the girls. I’m sure I’d get much more use out of something like Mystery. It’s just more of an everyday shade.
What else can you tell me about Mystery?
- It lasts about four hours on my lips (not bad).
- Has a medium-weight, non-sticky formula.
- While it’s unscented, I do detect a faint vanilla candy flavor that kinda reminds me of the White Rabbit candies I ate as a kid.
Okay, but is Mystery worth almost 30 big ones? I think the answer to that depends on how much of a Chanel-o-phile you are.
If you wouldn’t dream of wearing anything else on your pout, sure, I’d recommend Mystery as an everyday purse shade, especially if you skipped Sweet Beige.
But guys/gals on a strict makeup budget can certainly find similar shades for less (MAC Ample Pink Plushglass springs to mind).
Do I like Mystery? You know, I do. It’s something I know I’ll wear, and I like how well it works with the eyeshadows in the Eclats du Soire collection.
Maybe it doesn’t quite make my heart pull a Peter Cottontail (go thumpity-thump-thump), but Chanel die-hards who don’t mind paying a premium for basic colors may still want to add it to their holiday wish list.

Seriously, Mother Nature?
Yargh! I am so ridiculously itchy right now. I guess it’s allergies, even though I don’t usually get them in the fall. Whatever it is, my histamines have been on fire this week! I think maybe Tabs rutted around in some plants outside that my body totally hates.
Anyone else out there having bad allergies today? Or am I the lone itchy wolf?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Looks like you don’t have a concealer here,or do you?
Karen says
Hi Varsha,
I’m not sure…I’ll have to look in my Dior drawer!
As for concealer, yup, I’m wearing my usual MAC concealer. I think I just look extra tired, LOL. I haven’t been sleeping well.
Do you think you might pick up anything from this collection?
Tori says
Not sure about spending that money on a gloss but when it’s in the same blog post as Tim Riggins I am tempted!

At the start of the show I didn’t get it…but now I totally do. He really does have his moments of brillance!

How hot does Tabster look in the picture. *Squeeeee**Swoon*
I agree, this looks VERY wearable. And the eyeshadow looks super cute as well.
Hope you are feeling better now!

I loved those White Rabbit candies as a kid. XD

It’s SO SHEER. I can’t justify anything that won’t leave a hint of color on my lips, especially when that something is Chanel and Chanel-priced. Nope.

I LOVE the look of Mystery–and since I’m one of the ones that missed out on Sweet Beige, I think I can justify spending the money for this one 🙂 Also, Star Dust looks GORG on you!!! I was scared it would be too light, but it looks amazing on you! Great, another blush to add to the list….
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Oh my God, Muffin does exactly the same thing as Tabs! I swear she looks RUEFUL when she’s been snoozing and comes too late. I wonder what she thinks she’s missing out on!
I’m still eyeing that red lippie more. I love a good everyday staple, but I already have… some of them 🙂
So sorry to hear about your allergies. Mine have been kinda under control since the kitties are kept out of the bedroom (how ironic is that? I turned out to be allergic to animals).

OMG I knew I would love it when you posted their holiday collection… I’m dying to see that nail polish on too… 🙂 Must get.

Admittedly belated, but Karen – Tim Riggins is like a cat – he’s whatever he wants to be 😉

I have the same problem with my vincey. And if im using the upstairs bathroom and he doesnt get in with me. He will sit on the top of the banister, right in front of the bathroom. So he is the first thing i see when i open the door. The gloss looks very pretty.
