How Did Topshop Do with New Limited Edition Topshop Nails for Spring and Summer 2010?

June 29th, 2010 by Karen 17 Comments

Topshop Amazon Nails

Sure, it might be summer in nail polish land, but right now some fairly offbeat colors are having their moment in the sun.

U.K. (and now US) retailer Topshop now has a makeup line to go with their clothes, and their SS10 Trend Collection of three limited edition shades ($10 each) for spring and summer 2010 sho’ don’t look like your typical summer pinks, corals, oranges and reds. No, sir. Gold Dust (a shimmery buttery gold), Copper Coated (a reddish copper with large glitter) and Cloud (a creamy bluish gray) are downright something else.

Take a look, and let me know what you think. 🙂

The Topshop SS10 Trend Collection

Topshop says SS10 was inspired by festivals, folk goddesses, face paint, art and ethereal beauty, hmm…

I gotta say — I do think they look de-lovely in their outfits. Hella cute packaging, right? And I am a sucker for snazzy presentation… It gets me every time!

Ultimately, I kinda like the two shimmery shades, Copper Coated and Gold Dust. Both of ’em apply smoothly with pretty good pigmentation (I used two coats in the pics above). I also find them pretty easy to work with thanks to a medium-weight texture, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them shine a little brighter than they do…

Cloud, the lonely cream color — incidentally, the shade I *desperately* wanted to love — just doesn’t sell the stud, ya know? I think it’s just okay (GRRR!). The uber-thick texture makes it a challenge to evenly apply, and I found myself having to use three layers to get a solid block of non-streaky color.

Since Topshop just launched their makeup line in May, they haven’t been at this for long. At least they’re showing a willingness to think outside the box. 🙂

And I DO love the packaging, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for better things come fall. Find Gold Dust and Copper Coated at the Topshop store in New York and online at topshop.com; Cloud is a UK release available here. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C/C+

It can’t be July already?

WOW! I just took a double take at my calendar. I cannot believe it’s almost the 4th of July.

As usual, El Hub and I are trying to make plans at the last minute. We’re thinking about maybe taking a day trip up to Lake Berryessa in Napa County. Have you ever been?

I remember going there with my family when I was a wee tyke. It would be nice to have a picnic, bring a book to read, snap some pictures and maybe do a little swimming (I can’t remember if the water’s warm).

CREEPY FACTOID: Lake Berryessa also happens to be the site of one of the infamous Zodiac Killer murders. Um, yeah… I know it’s irrational, but I’ll be bringing my pepper spray, thank you very much!

Are you doing anything special this weekend? Is there a big fireworks display in your area?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

One word for Topshop: ugh. Yeah, I don’t like their make up 🙂 Buuut I wouldn’t mind being a tiny dot on that picture right now. With a back aching like hell, I bet it would really help. Ouch..

I went to Lake Berryessa when I was little too! I don’t remember anything about it except the name… looks pretty though!

So excited! I just got back from taking my first kyu test! I’m now officially in training for my black belt! Woot! So what am I doing now? I’m going to Disneyland (fo’ reals, we’re leaving on the 4th)… and rewarding myself with a little hard-earned Chanel goodness! 😀

I like Copper Coated, the color is pretty but the other two do nothing for me. I guess I was expecting too much from their makeup as I love their clothes. 🙁

That place is beautiful, I woud love to visit it one day.

Oh I really like that Gold Dust one! I find it very difficult to get a good champagne/golden nailpolish that doesn’t have chunky gritty bits of sparkle. The copper one probably looks way better with your complexion than my pasty one.

As for this weekend, I’m off to THAT: http://www.kelburngardenparty.com/ Way less excited since I realised last night it’s going to be midges season, and we’re camping…

The festival looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun!

I had no idea what you meant by midges, and after doing a quick google search all I have to say is EWW!

I did find this article that might be helpful, though:

It’s too bad that Cloud didn’t apply well, of the three I really like the way it looks on your hands. Ah well, that just means you’ll have to do more research with different brands. Such a hardship to do research with our favorite obsession…. ;0)

I agree the packaging for the makeup is cute, but so far none of the products in the picture captures my heart. Cloud nail polish looks interesting enough but too bad it is very thick.

Man! I really wanted to love cloud, too. Too bad it’s gloopy. I’m starting to have a thing for blues, but my skin tone and eyes (which are blue) don’t really lend themselves to blue shades. Sigh!

Berryessa is great! We camped there once for a weekend and I remember the water being really warm. It’s kind of hilly and dry around there, but since the water is so warm it’s the perfect chill in the water all day lake. Have a safe trip. I’m inspired to go somewhere nice this weekend now too. I’m afraid a trip to Napa might be prove to be crowded…

I have been DYING to put together a Topshop cosmetics order. The colors look completely gorgeous.

Also, have you heard about Burberry starting a make up line? I’m a little on the fence about it but heck, I am willing to try anything once!

I really like shade Cloud and the other 2 aren’t my style really 😀 I knew the shade I like won’t be that amazing when it comes to formula and applying. It’s always like that with me 😀

And for $10 I’d expect more :/ But I don’t think I’ll get any of their makeup because I generally don’t like their clothes, it’s so cheap-looking and cheap materials but pricey.

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
