Setting a New Gold Standard for Lip Luxury That Actually Includes Gold, the Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil

April 16th, 2013 by Karen 14 Comments

Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil
The luxuriously lavish new Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil ($42)

Hello, obsession. 🙂 Well, to be more precise, “the luxury lip treatment obsession I’m keeping on call for when Bruce Wayne shows up at my doorstep and offers to fund my lavish cat lady lifestyle, no strings attached (’cause he’s nice like that).”

Gold. Luxury. $42.

This new No. 28 lip treatment flat-out exudes luxury, and it wants to share that luxury with your lips.

Like, literally.

Hourglass outfitted it with a 24-karat gold-plated tip!

Recently added to the company’s permanent line for summer, it contains a blend of vitamins and 28 cool plant compounds and essential oils.

Hourglass No 28 Lip Treatment Oil

Oh, yeah. And then there’s the gold tip.

Gimmicky? Why, yes. Yes, it is. But it sure is bright and shiny! — and it feels like love on my lips. Cool, refreshing (and mildly addictive).

Of possible interest to germaphobes and Purell enthusiasts, Hourglass also says the gold-plated tip is anti-bacterial (interesting).

Something about it reminds me of The Hunger Games…but maybe that’s just because Cinna’s been on my mind. I can totally see him pulling one of these out of his man purse to moisturize Katniss’s lips between events (more on that in a sec).

Hourglass No 28 Lip Treatment Oil

Hourglass claims that their proprietary blend of 28 plant-based essential oils and vitamins helps to condition lips, reduce wrinkles and improve overall lip shape and volume.

“Like No. 28 Primer Serum, this product is enriched with 14 essential oils: Bois De Rose, Lavender, Geranium, Petitgrain, Lemon, Rosemary, Vanilla, Clove, Amyris, Orange, Ylang Ylang, Eucalyptus, Cedar and Rose Geranium; 10 lipid-rich plant oils, including Hazelnut, Kukui Nut, Rose Hip, Borage, Olive, Green Tea, Cherry Pit, Sweet Almond, Jojoba, and Evening Primrose; and is fortified with 4 Vitamins, A, B5, C and E. The 28 ingredients create a protective barrier for lips.”

— From the official PR

I’ve been swiping the clear treatment, which has a light sheen to it, on my pout throughout the day and right before bedtime, and my lips have felt a little softer lately.

The medium-weight, comfy formula has a slightly sticky feel and a strong lavender and eucalyptus flavor and scent. The formula lasts on my lips from 1-2 hours, and I’ll wear it by itself or layered atop a nude lip liner.

Ingredients

Active Ingredients
Saliporine 8: Elevates moisture levels in the skin.
Volulip: Improves lip texture and softness.
K3 Viamerine: Hydrates and reduces the appearance in depth of wrinkles.
A blend of 28 essential oils and lipid-rich plant oils: Nourishes skin.

Oleic/Linoleic/Linolenic Polyglycerides, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Octyldodecanol, Amyris (Amyris Balsamifera) Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora Wood Oil, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Benzoin Siam Absolute, Bois De Rose (Aniba Rosaeodora) Oil, Borage (Borago Officinalis) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cedar (Thuja Occidentalis) Leef Oil, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Cherry (Prunus Avium) Pit Oil, Clove (Eugenia Caryophyllus) Oil, Dimethylmethoxy Chromanol, Eucalyptus Globulus Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Geranium (Geranium Maculatum) Oil, Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis) Oil, Hazelnut (Corylus Americana) Oil, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Oil, Kukui (Aleurites Moluccana) Nut Oil, Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) Oil, Lemon (Citrus Medica Limonum) Peel Oil, Lithospermum Officinale Root Extract, Octyldodecyl Myristate, Olive(Olea Europaea) Oil, Orange (Citrus Aurantium Dulcis) Peel Oil, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Panthenyl Triacetate, Petitgrain (Citrus Reticulata) Oil, Portulaca Pilosa Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Rose Geranium (Pelargonium Roseum) Oil, Rose Hips Seed Oil, Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Leaf Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, Salicornia Herbacea Extract, Sorbitan Isostearate, Sucrose Cocoate, Sweet Almond (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis) Oil, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Linoleate, Vanilla (Vanilla Planifolia) Oil, Ylang Ylang (Cananga Odorata) Oil.

I’m not completely sold on the wrinkle reducing benefits…but then again, I’m not really concerned about wrinkles on my lips.

Now, if we were talking about the size of my pores and the fine lines under my eyes, that, my friend, would be a completely different story. 🙂

Hourglass No 28 Lip Treatment Oil

I do like how soft my lips feel when I wear this, and I can’t completely discount the anti-aging benefits after having only worn it a few days, but seeing that it’s also $42, that’s a bit much.

Hourglass No 28 Lip Treatment Oil

I think it might one of those things that you like/love once you’ve tried it, but you may not necessarily need.

Maybe a good gift to give yourself after a really tough week (or Mother’s Day is right around the corner).

PRICE: $42 for a 0.25-ounce tube

So hungry…

Teaser trailer time!

There’s a new Catching Fire trailer out!

The movie opens November 22, and yes, I will probably be the only person at the midnight showing here in Novato who is not a tween. 🙂

Ya know, there’s a funny story about this bow…

Karen

Cool! I think this sounds kinda’ interesting actually. I’m starting to notice wrinkles around my lips, so maybe it’ll help with that!

My dad finally watched The Hunger Games a month or so ago and loved it (we bought him the book too). I just emailed him a link to the trailer for Catching Fire, so he’s pretty excited. He read all the Percy Jackson and Harry Potter books too though :p

The packaging of this is so cool, but yikes at the price!

    Hmm sounds convincing.
The tip however reminds me of Loreal’s Revitalift eye treatment tip. Almost similar but not gold. :):)

Well, it’s packed with oil to be sure! Funnily enough, I was thinking last week about lip wrinkles. I don’t think I’m quite concerned enough to invest $42 but that time could come! 🙂

I’m trying to remember what the crowd demographic was for the Hunger Games movie when it opened here. I think it was pretty mixed. But you look young anyway. You’ll blend. 🙂

This has my name written all over it. I’m so paranoid about getting wrinkles around my lips that I stopped drinking out of water bottles & using straws on a regular basis (I will in a restaurant).

I’m currently working on the Guerlain summer stuff right now! It’ll be up in a few. What else are you liking from the launch?

NICE. I’ll probably wear gold liner in honor of Cinna. 🙂 I may or may not bring a bow, too!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
