H2O+ Sweet Berry Body Balm and Bath Gel Aren’t Regular Lifesavers

April 26th, 2011 by Karen 18 Comments

Before sniffing H2O+’s new Sweet Berry shower gel and body balm, I would have thought it absurd that a candy company would ever collaborate on a bath/beauty product. Now, I’m not so sure.

Since I know that LifeSavers didn’t partner with H2O+ this year, there must be another explanation for why H2O+’s new Sweet Berry Moisturizing Body Balm ($11.50) and Shower & Bath Gel ($9) smell so much like LifeSavers Gummies, incidentally one of my favorite candies in the world.

Maybe there was an accident one day in the H2O+ labs… What if a technician who was working on the new products had an open bag of gummies in his shirt pocket? If he had leaned forward a little too far and let one plop down into his beaker, that could explain the remarkably similar scents.

Yeah, probably not. But still — it would be kinda cool if that’s how it happened. 🙂

When it comes to bath and body products, I usually prefer citrus and floral scents, so I was surprised to like H2O+’s new Sweet Berry Moisturizing Body Balm and Shower & Bath Gel so much.

While sweet, they don’t overwhelm my sensitive nose. I find them light and fresh, and not anywhere near as cloying as the berry-themed body products I’ve tried from Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works.

Of course, scent is a matter of personal preference, but that’s the beauty of beauty products like these. We can sniff sample them before choosing to bring them home.

Shower & Bath Gel ingredients

The Shower & Bath Gel feels a little thicker and stickier than I normally like and does take a while to rinse, but it certainly cleans well, probably due in part to the inclusion of TEA-Lauryl Sulfate, a potent, but sometimes irritating, cleanser. It hasn’t bothered me, but it’s just something to note.

As a side, I’ve been using it as a shave cream for my legs, and for that I think it rocks.

The Moisturizing Body Wash also gets the job done. I like that it doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily or greasy, and it’s pretty quickly absorbed.

This is pretty random, but one of the ingredients, citronellol, sounds a lot like citronella, which appears in many mosquito repellants. Apparently, it’s closely related. It appears here because of its rose-like fragrance, but who knows? It might even help to keep pesky mosquitoes away…although I’m not sure I’m brave enough to test that theory. 🙂

Body Balm ingredients

Oh, and one of my favorite things about both of these tubes is how cute they look in the shower.

I’m not big on berry scents either. They usually smell too sweet for me. But if something smells like LifeSavers, I’m all over it!

These are soo pretty, love the color!

I also wanted to thank you for making more of a point to mention when the products you review have harsh chemicals in them. A lot of people aren’t aware of them and I appreciate that you’re helping to make others aware 🙂

It smells like candy, but the nice thing about it is that it’s not very sweet. More tart, I suppose.

LOL! That reminded me of that episode of Seinfeld when they drop the Junior Mint during surgery!! I imagined the same slow motion falling candy 🙂

Okay, so I just started watching Seinfeld this year (lame, I know), and I caught that episode a few weeks ago. It’s HILARIOUS! OMG, the slow motion candy, LOL!

i lovelove candy scents, however, im pretty sure im allergic to TEA Lauryl Sulfate. which kinda sucks because on the one hand, i need the mosquito repellant effects of citronellol.

mosquitoes love to bite me. :/

You and me both! I took Tabs out for a walk a few days ago and I had to cut it short because the mosquitos were in full force. 🙁 They loooove my blood. El Hub, on the other hand, never gets bitten. Not fair!

the moment i see the word “berry” i don’t bother :p. i’m really NOT a fan. but i confess, i am intrigued! my sense of smell is quite sensitive, too, so maybe it won’t bother me so much (at least not the bath gel since those don’t typically stick around for too long).

Normally I am too. But this is a really nice, crisp berry, and not sweet or cloying at all!

I recently discovered H2O+ and just ordered their Sea Mineral Mud Mask a couple days ago! From their website it seemed like they have a pretty extensive spa line. I’m hoping I’ll like the mask and order some of their spa products soon!

      Hi Hayan,

Oh, I haven’t tried that yet. You’ll have to let me know if it’s any good.

I’ve tried a few things from H2O but I haven’t been crazy about them, especially for the price. Speaking of Lifesavers, do you know what I really miss? The original tropical fruit packs that had Coconut, Banana, Pineapple, Tangerine (I can’t remember the 5th). They have a revised Tropical now as well as a Hawaiian Fruits, but not my childhood Tropical. It makes me sad. OK, moving on now. 🙂

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
