Guerlain Terracotta Pause d’Eté for the Crème de la Crème of Bronzing Bad-@ssery

August 11th, 2016 by Karen 22 Comments

I don’t know which is more breathtaking — the intricate braided design on the Guerlain Terracotta Pause D’Ete Bronzing Powder Duo pan or its breathtaking price.

$86.

I KNOW.

Both are equally able to knock the wind out of you.

When I think of high-end, crème de la crème bronzing bad-@ssery, Guerlain is the first brand that comes to mind (Terracotta Healthy Glow Powder Duo in 03 Naturel Brunettes is always in my makeup bag). Whenever I wear their easy, effortless, beautifully buttery bronzers, I feel like I’ve been kissed by the sun…even when I haven’t spent any time in it.

Unfortunately, they’re also expensive.

This summer their Terracotta Pause d’Eté bronzer pan has three powder parts — a brown powder ring of Guerlain Terracotta shade in 03, and a golden braided overspray (which blends away after a few uses) surrounding a peachy blush center.

Mixing the three together creates a warm peachy brown with a hint of golden pearl that reminds me a little of MAC Gingerly Blush, which is probably why I’m into it. I’ve been into barely-there cheek color lately (it’s a phase), but you can build up the intensity.

It hangs on for a good amount of time, too, so I can usually get through the better part of a day without having to touch it up.

I’ll bust it out when I want to pretend I’m chillin’ in St. Tropez, and/or when I’m in the mood to smell something good, because it also has Guerlain’s signature gardenia tiaré flower scent (heavenly!).

If you feel the Call of the Bronze, Pause d’Eté is adding gorgeousness to Guerlain counters and bronzed babes everywhere now.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Beautiful, Karen! I’m loving the eyes — it works so well with the makeup. This bronzer is beautiful but $$$! I’d have to drink first so I could use it as an excuse for the splurge. 😉

Thanks, Divina! That eyeshadow, my friend, is the fabulousness of NARS Hardwired in Parallax. Do you do shimmer? If you do, it’s a gorgeous dove gray. You could wear it on the lids and pop a little bit of your MAC Cork in the crease.

That is pretty but it has two drawbacks for me. One – the overspray, which at – two – $86 you’d think they could be a little more generous with and have the gold throughout.

I love bronzer, but that one is way too much money to even use. I have my trusty Bobbi bronzer in Medium. I have been adding an old Shimmer Brick in Sandstone to add a highlight. The shades are also great on the eyes. It’s a bit caramel-bronze. I wear them over the cream shadow in malted.

I’m with you on Bobbi’s bronzers! They’re so easy to use and always look so natural. You’ve just inspired me to bust out the Antigua and Golden Light Duo. Haven’t used it in a while and I think it’s time to give it some love. <3 Speaking of Bobbi, how pretty is this highlighter? I’m totally drooling…

Hey Karen! I am new to Guerlain and this was one beauty I did splurge on. But I have a secret! beautytheshop.com still has this available for only $54! I am also in love with the Rouge G lipstick and jet.com carries a large selection of the Rouge G for well under the full retail price. I had super success with both sites. Products arrived quickly and were pristine.

As to the product itself, I knew the overspray would get wiped away but the powders beneath are so fine and the middle shade is a perfect highlight shimmer to a deeper coral blush. Also it is beautifully scented! Does anyone know if Guerlain has bottled the scent of their Terracotta powders?!? I would buy it in a heartbeat!

      Hi Elise,

Thanks for the heads up! Saving $$$ is always a *great* thing. 😀 Guerlain did a ‘Terracotta Le Parfum’ a while back but I think it was LE and now is hard to find. I remember seeing it floating around on eBay a while back.

Sweet! Thank you for the tip. I did find some bottles on eBay as you suggested! I may need to add it to my lust/must list!

p.s. I have been a long time fan of your blog and finally have come out of lurkdom. Love love love all of the ladies posts!

          Hi Elise,

I hope you can track it down! I’ve never purchased beauty products on eBay, but I’ve heard many a horror story about fake items, so be careful. If anybody of you gals here in the comments knows of a reputable Guerlain seller please give a shout out.

Oh, and thanks for saying hi today and coming out of lurkdom! It’s very nice to meet you and chat with you. Did you have a good day today? I just got back from a doctor’s appointment and a quick Target run. The only beauty-related thing I got was a pack of Venus razor refills, LOL! Nothing too exciting. I also picked up a couple outfits for Connor.

I have been a long time eBayer (since 2000),so have learned the ins & outs of being both a buyer and seller. It is pretty easy to identify fake products if you do your due diligence.

It is certainly a pleasure to chat with you! 🙂 It was a good day! I am an academic librarian at an art & design college, so work in this dynamic creative environment year round. We are gearing up for the fall semester which starts in a bit over 2 weeks. Yikes!

As for beauty treats…I took the plunge and ordered the just released Marc Jacobs Eye Con 20 palette. It is my first foray into the brand! I have heard the shadows are creamy/pigmented much like high end product should be, yet are decently priced. I’d rather spend the money on one good product, than several sub par. 😉

Hope you have a smashing weekend!

I totes feel the call of this. But my wallet doesn’t. 🙁 Reading through the comments above, I may check out the site mentioned where I can purchase this at a deep discount. I may also add this to birthday gifts to get for myself during my birthday month. I celebrate for the entire month. ? And you look great! That eye look is stunning. Hope you’re having a good day 🙂

      Hey Kwmechelle,

I think a birthday month is a GREAT thing. (Why limit it the celebration to just one day?!) When does the celebration start?

I’m having a good day so far, thanks for asking! 🙂 I did a whole lot of secret project schtuff in the morning, went to a doctor’s appointment, then stopped by Tar-ghay. I did a quick drive by in the beauty section but the only ended up picking up razors for myself (boring, I know). I got Connor a couple onesies and the cutest baby pants, erhmahgawd! Now I’m going to take some pictures. What have you been up to?

B-day is in December. So I still have a long way to go. But my birthday is December 23 so I’ve taken to celebrating the entire month since I was born so close to Christmas. Was in bed until 3 today because Aunt Flo is here (!!!). The rest was sooooo good, though, so no complaints. I need to start putting together my birthday gift list. Usually Kate Spade makes a visit so we shall see. Hope CC pics make their way to the blog. After all, Connor’s the beauty brand ambassador for MBB. Now I’m off to tend to my growing list. 🙂

My mom’s birthday is in December too! December babies especially deserve a birthday month. 😉

Since you mentioned Kate Spade I had to pop onto the site to see what’s new. AHHH! So much cat lady cuteness, I don’t know what to do with myself!

          Connor says, “Hi, Auntie!”.

I’ve also been doing a lighter cheek because I’ve been wearing dark eye makeup lately. This looks nice. I saw the comments about Bobbi Brown bronzers. I like their aesthetic so I may get one from them too.

Everything about that bronzer is jaw-dropping. The packaging, the details on the powder, and yeah the price too! I didn’t buy this one, I couldn’t stomach it… So I just got the special summer edition of their classic Terracotta, and I love it!

I have the terracota from the Pucci collection and from last summer, the one that came with the silicone sleeve, so fun. Strawberynet also usually sells at discount, plus free shipping!

Ugh, so curious about your super secret project. A site overhaul? A makeup colab? The Cat Cafe? Hurry tell us already!

Guerlain makes the most stunning bronzers and compacts I’ve ever seen but the price always hurts my heart lol. They’re so expensive! I broke down and picked up a regular Terracotta bronzer a while ago that I may pull out today. I could use a nice whiff of flowers before work lol

These look a lot like the Physicians Formula Argan Wear bronzers/blushes, in design at least! The color and formula are a lot different, I’m sure. I don’t think I’d buy this myself but it is a really pretty color x
