For Makeup and a Light Meal, Try Gerard Cosmetics Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Gloss

If I’m ever invited to one of those restaurants where you dine in the dark, I’m bringing Cocoa Bean or Butter Cream with me, two of the 24 Color Your Smile Lighted Lip Glosses ($24 each) from cruelty-free indie line Gerard Cosmetics.

Let there be light!

And not just because they double as a light source. They’re also intensely pigmented, highly moisturizing and comfy. Plus, the lightweight, non-sticky formula should easily last through the dinner (wear time: 4-5 hours).

While my tum is plumping during the meal, my lips will be, too — just slightly — because these also contain lip-plumping collagen peptides, for less visible lip wrinkles without one of those painful plumping stings.

But with these, really, it’s all about the flashlight. That’s the hook right there — the two bright LED lights in the cap.

And they are BRIGHT! Borderline blinding. One thing’s for sure, they aren’t dim.

Is it a gimmick? Of course, but one that could actually prove useful. You never know when you’ll want to touch up your gloss after a power outage or open a locked door in the dark.

The only thing is, it’s also a little distracting — the light.

At least I think so.

The caps cast a cool-toned blue light and odd, flickering shadows on my lips. It’s like I’m applying gloss in a horror movie, and I keep expecting someone wearing a hockey mask to sneak up on me.

With or without the lights, though, I think these glosses are lovely. You get a nice, long-lasting formula, pounds of pigment and plenty of moisture. What’s not to like?

PRICE: $24 each
AVAILABILITY: Available online now in 24 shades
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (you’re partly paying for the packaging, so it has to be a gimmick you like)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love watching other women apply light sabre type lipgloss; they do it with such ease and their husband or PIC never questions the oddity of such an eye-catching makeup doohickey.

It all seems a bit gimmicky to me, the whole lit wand thing, but the colors of these do look lovely.

Karen, can you post the ingredients to these and/or their lipstick if you have them? I have emailed GC and asked, but I never got a reply.

Cocoa Bean is a great fall/winter color on you. I agree you’d have to really like the LED gimmick to buy this, though. 🙂

I’m loving Cocoa Bean! That’s a lovely color for fall. Actually, the other one is really cute too. I keep seeing this line all over IG so I guess I’ll have to try one someday lol

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
