Does Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer in Golden Nude Stand the Test of Time?

July 16th, 2010 by Karen 27 Comments

My eyelids and have a thing for shimmery Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer in Golden Nude ($20). Released earlier this summer with the Smasbox Naked Beauty collection, the products is supposed to act as a moisturizing base for powder and cream shadows to extend wear time and boost their vibrancy while making fine lines harder to spot.

The new color’s a riff on Smasbox’s standard issue warm beige Photo Finish Lid Primer, and the second I swatched it my heart went bumpity-bump!

LOVE the texture and how it looks, but sadly it hasn’t done much to increase the staying power of the eyeshadows I’ve tried it with. Plus, with it on I see creases and exaggerated fine lines by noon, and it’s all but gone by the end of the day.

To help my shadows last longer, I think I’ll stick to Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin. It’s a similar shimmery golden nude, but it kills it when it comes to locking shadows into place. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Sorry I’m a little late to the party today (got carried away playing with some stuff from Boots). What did I miss?

Karen I am in love with that pic you took at the top, it’s gorgeous! I barely saw the makeup I was too busy looking at the fuzzy background and killer font, LOL!

That’s my font crush, Helvetica Neue Ultra Light. It’s like the antithesis of Comic Sans!

Happy Friday, Karen! I found my Nymphette! It was tucked away in one of the 300 pockets of one of my work bags. Didn’t think I had used that bag last week, but obviously I did! Whoops. 🙂

Yeah…it LOOKS nice, but if it doesn’t work right, then no thanks. I have the original Photo Finish and it’s practically useless.

I want Sin so badly – I just have a mini one! Good to know it’s better than this one.

      Happy, happy FRIDAY!

Weekend plans, hmm… Tonight I think El Hub and I are going to the movies to watch Inception, and tomorrow night I’m going to the city to have dinner at a Peruvian restaurant w/some friends. I REALLY have to do some cleaning, too. The house looks like a tornado hit it!

      How ’bout you?

sounds fun! we are going to the drive-in tomorrow night to see inception! I hope it’s good!

I also need to clean my house 🙁

I’ve never had Peruvian food, is it nommy? 🙂

It’s really delicious. Lots of yummy carbs! Mmm… carbs.

It seems like *everyone* is going to the drive-in this weekend! I wish I could go to one. There are hardly any of those left here in the Bay Area.

Cleaning the house is the last thing I want to do, but when it’s messy I feel so stressed out!

Pretty colour, but too bad it doesn’t lock down eyeshadow and it creases, such a shame.

Aww… I really liked Golden Nude – perhaps its because the Urban Decay Primer didn’t work for me. I don’t have super oily lids though and it does help intensify colours, just not by that much. Happy weekend!

      Hey Paris B,

Have you tried the new Eden version? I’m not crazy about the original UDPP, but the Eden version is fantastic.

Hope you’re having a good weekend so far. 🙂

Even if Sin is my least fave of the UDPPs, I still like it. I mean, it does work. I just find the shimmer a bit too … shimmery! 🙂

Ive never had luck w/ Smashbox primers other than the Photofinish Light. The regular face primer makes me itch. 🙁

Yikes, that’s not good. Maybe it’s the silicones? That formula feels particularly slippery to me.

      Happy Saturday!

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
