De-Stress for Less with Origins $10 Sensory Therapy Peace of Mind

August 5th, 2009 by Karen 26 Comments

Stress relief doesn’t always come cheap (hello, Bliss spa!), and some of the ways I like to unwind are viewed as socially unacceptable (going apesh*t on an annoying coworker, for instance).

Thank goodness for affordable stress-relieving miracles like Origins Sensory Therapy Peace of Mind ($10) …

It may not replace a trip to the spa (or beating the crap out of my pillow until I foam at the mouth), but it helps to bring my heart rate down when something has me seeing red.

Soothing scent

Like aromatherapy, Peace of Mind’s light, non-greasy lotion radiates a soothing peppermint, eucalyptus and basil fragrance when I (or El Hub) massage a few drops into the back of my neck and shoulders, where I hold a lot of my tension.

Relief for tense muscles

Within about five minutes of rubbing it on, a cooling effect kicks in — not intense like Ben Gay — just cool enough to unclench my muscles.

It’s portable, too!

I usually leave the the tiny bottle at home, but sometimes I’ll take it with me in my purse, where I can reach for it when I’m stuck in traffic.

Origins Sensory Therapy Peace of Mind

Price: $10
Use: An affordable aromatherapy lotion to relieve stress and tension
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

You might like Origins Sensory Therapy Peace of Mind if …

  • you often feel stressed out and need quick, soothing relief;
  • you like the scent of peppermint; and/or
  • you deserve an affordable treat.

Didn’t make it to the movie, boo

I was just too tired by the time El Hub got home from work, so I guess I’ll have to wait for the weekend to see 500 Days of Summer. If you catch it before then, let me know what you thought (but please no spoilers!).

I hope you’re having a good hump day. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I use it and it works wonders for me.. All of Origins products aside from the skin care ones work great. I love their chewing gum!!

      Hi Tali,

I like their stuff, too, especially the Ginger line for the body.

I tried that gum and chewed it like there was no tomorrow — it didn’t really do much for my stress levels!

      Hi Kailey,

Hmm, the gum didn’t do anything for me. Maybe my stress levels are way too high and past the point of no return.

Which shadows do you have? I have a few of the mattes and I love ’em.

I got this in a travel kit I bought at The Body Shop about three years ago. I love the way it smells! Very relaxing. I like your idea about taking it with you when you’re going to deal with traffic.

I’m going to try to catch that movie sometime this week. I’m working on doing more things by myself and I’ve never gone to the movies alone. Maybe a weekday matinee might not be so bad.

      Hi Sole,

Yup, take it with you next time you have to sit in bumper to bumper traffic. It makes a huge difference.

You know, I think it’s liberating to do things alone. It’s been awhile since I’ve gone to a movie by myself… maybe I’ll do that this week, too. 🙂

      Hi Yadi,

Wouldn’t it be cool to have a creative job where you could just create and not have to deal with politics? LE SIGH!

Did you have to bust out your toys for this meeting?!?

Ah, the benefits of aromatherapy…so soothing, so relaxing…I’ve already chilled out by thinking about it! Have you tried Bach’s Rescue Remedy for those moments when you just can’t take it all the time? My mum uses it alot…I think I should send her to a spa LOL

      Hi Marce,

Nope, but I’ve seen it at the health food store. They have a tin full of mints (?) for stress relief. I should probably pick one up, ha ha ha!

    Tali and Kelly,

How well does their gum taste/work? It seems a bit gimmicky to me to sell a stress-relieving chewing gum.

I’m gonna chime in here — unfortch the gum did nothing for me!

I need this like STAT! My neck/shoulders always kill from stress and constant computer work.

My highly annoying work nemesis doesn’t help either…

      Hi Vampy Varnish,

HA! Origins should make vats of this product so all the stressed out peeps can go swimming in it. I’d be the first in line.

karen! if you like this, you MUST try aveda blue oil, that comes in a roller-ball type applicator.

IT IS AMAZING. i don’t travel without one. it’s got jojoba, lavender and peppermint oils, and if you use the rollerball with harder pressure, you can even give yourself a mild massage. it’s great on temples, the tension prone areas of your neck, and shoulders. i buy them in bulk!

Redhead- its not like a normal tasting gum.. more herbally minty somehow. It does somehow clear my head more than any other regular gum ive tried!

ps – i think it’s a bit more expensive than this… but it’s so intense in the minty feeling that you need very little.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
