China Glaze Awakening Collection: Nails to Drive the Ghouls Crazy for Fall 2010

July 16th, 2010 by Karen 29 Comments

China Glaze Awakening

What it do, ghoul-friend? I’m guessing I’m probably not alone in feeling like Halloween’s about a billion light years away right now, but if you’re one of those always-planning-early types (or maybe every day feels like All Hallows’ Eve to you?), peep the three new colors of China Glaze’s upcoming Awakening collection.

Color me a kid from the ’80s, but dayum these colors remind me of Michael Jackson’s Thriller video. I was eight years old the first time I saw it and got zilch sleep for two weeks. Every time I’d close my eyes I’d see MJ’s glistening in the dark.

Zombie Zest, a dark green jelly base packed with green and gold glitter and my favorite color out of the three, looks like a nail polish version of those haunting peepers. Childhood scarring aside, I think it also looks kinda like sparkly baby poo. Both describe the color equally well.

The other two shades, Ick-a-body (a brownish green jelly base with burnt orange glitter) and Mummy May I (a purplish black jelly with purple glitter), are a lot of fun, too, especially if you like monstrous colors.

In each of these pics I’m wearing three coats.

I’m still trying to track down an official release date, but it’s rumored to be rolling onto beauty shelves in September. China Glaze polishes go for about $6, so that would place the Awakening set (which also comes with a bottle of China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat) at around $24, give or take. I’ll let you know when I get more info.

In the meantime, what do ya think? Do these shades make you wanna get your Frankenstein freak on, or are they just too out there for you?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I really like the purple. The orange reminds me of the one from last year that I picked up, can’t recall the name. I hate the idea of wearing 3 coats though! Ick! Might be one of those polishes where its best to put down 1 coat of black, then 1 of the sparkly.

These look cool in the bottles but actually on they look kind of…gross? I think I’m just not a big fan of jelly or chunky glitter. But I could see wearing one for a Halloween party!

I’m with Amber. They look cool in the bottles but don’t do anything for me when painted on.
BTW Wet and Wild has a perfect dupe for the purple one.

Oh man. I am loving those colors. Halloween is my favorite holiday (I actually stock up on Halloween decorations every year for normal house decorations lol). So these nail polish shades are right up my alley. Super excited to get my hands on these!!!!

Love em all. They all bring to mind ghostly, ghouly, Halloween times, but also stand on their own as just awesome colors and girly glitter that should end up working year-round. Or maybe I just like glitter way too much…

I like the green and purple ones … the brown is a bit chunky for me.

The Purple reminds me of a MAC eyeshadow … Young Punk! 🙂

These look fun.!! I am not the hugest fan of glitter nail laquer myself – but to anyone that is I think that the green and the orange/brown are really cool and sparkly – the purple seems a bit too blackish. Nice post!- very interesting product.

I kinda like the colors….but I’m too OCD to deal with big glitter. All I’ll do is wonder why that nail doesn’t have as much glitter as the one next to it. LOL!

I am in LOVE with Zombie Zest. It makes me think of sticking my fingers in slime and walking around screaming for flesh of the living. And I don’t think of it as “baby poo green.” Babies don’t poo glitter! 😀

I love these three shades! Can’t wait to get them. I love anything with glitter in it. I missed the polish that Phyrra is talking about so Ick-a- Body will be a great substitute.

LOL baby poo 😀 i’m digging Mummy May I (heh what a name!) but i wonder if the glitter makes it bumpy? and all of those look hard to remove.

The glitter does make it bumpy — you’ll want to throw on a good top coat!

They did take some time to remove (and quite a few cotton pads)!

How do you think these would look w/ a matte top coat?

Wow “Mummy May I” is SUPER CLOSE to Deborah Lippmann’s “Bad Romance”, for less then half the price. Only difference is the sparkle size. “Ick-a-body” too is super close to Lippmann’s “Super Star” leaning more towards the brighter burnt orange side. Whole collection rocks. <3
