L’eau, the places, we’ll go! I’d love to take you to Paris or Hawaii, my friend…but for now, how about Redding, California? 🙂 That’s where I’m writing you from today.
Confession: I love me some Chanel, but I’m not really a Chanel No. 5 sort of girl. I’ve worn it many times over the years in the hopes that I’d fall in love with it because of its storied history and iconic past and, you know, because it’s Chanel, but it always felt like a pair of shoes that never quite fit me as perfectly as I’d like. Scent is such a personal thing, and No. 5 always seemed a little too serious for me.
I remember going to Filipino parties when I was young and being forced to hug aunties that I didn’t know, and they would always be wearing Chanel No. 5, and noisy jewelry, and they always had big hair, and when I hugged them, it would tickle my nose (the big hair AND Chanel No. 5).
No. 5 L’Eau is a new version coming to Chanel counters this fall — a reimagining of the scent — that will sit alongside the original, and I LOVE it.
With L’Eau, you definitely get the sense that you’re wearing No. 5, but it’s noticeably different. It still carries many of the original’s same notes, like May rose, but in a lighter elixir that seems more delicate and, dare I say, more fun.
Lemon, mandarin and orange stand front and center. To my nose, L’Eau seems airier than the original No. 5 and almost weightless, like a brush of tulle against naked skin.
Look for it this fall at Chanel counters. The 3.4-oz. bottle shown here is $132.
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday, babes. It will be a hot one here in Redding, as it always is this time of year (over 110 degrees!), so my big plan for the day will involve finding the coolest spot in an air conditioned room.
I checked in with Tabs this morning over Skype, and he and his favorite petsitter haven’t thrown any ragers yet. Let’s hope they don’t.
What do you have going on this weekend?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I also was not a fan of the original but love the new version!! My only gripe is that I just don’t think it’s very long lasting – it seems like the fragrance only lasts an hour or so ? not good when the perfume is quite a pricey one xx
Karen says
Hi Chloe Louisa,
I’ve noticed, too, that the original perfum lasts longer than L’eau. I think that might be by design though. Do you get a lot of the citrus notes? That’s my favorite part!
TravelingBlush says
Yeah, I am also not a No. 5 girl, with my wild hair and ceinckly clothes. The Eau version is interesting though, will need to check it out.
Karen says
Give me it a sniff! It’s light and lovely.
Happy weekend to you!
Lulle says
No5 was my grandma’s signature scent, so it’s not a fragrance I could wear. It would be like dressing up as my grandma, you know? I have the same issue with YSL Paris, which is my auntie’s signature scent. No way I could ever wear either without feeling like an impostor!

110 degrees, don’t melt. Find a place to stay cool. It’s 106 in Pleasant Grove where my horse is. When it’s this hot I prefer to think of the temperature in Celsius, because 41 doesn’t sound nearly as uncomfortable as 106.
Just returning some things that didn’t work out from the Nordstrom sale today. Tomorrow Dear Hubby and I are going to see the latest Jason Bourne movie, then grab a bite to eat afterwards.

I’m currently sitting at the salon. Just finished the shampoo & now I’m getting a deep conditioning. Getting a blow dry & flat iron, even though it’s raining very hard here. Not an ideal day to get my hair done but I’m in dire need of a professional ‘do, so come rain, sleet, shine, or snow, I will be cute. May have to wear my beanie out when I’m done, but my hair will be cute. Enjoy your day. And keep cool 🙂
Erin says
I’ve been wanting to try it. I’ve always thought I’d like N0.5 better if it has a little citrus in it.

I went to Charming Charlie today. They have a website if you can’t get to a store. I bought 3 pairs of earrings and one necklace. I have brunch plans for tomorrow with my BFF at his place. He and his boyfriend will cook and i will bring over his birthday gift!

Chanel <3 My mom wears No. 5, but I find it too heavy. I'll have to check out the L'eau version! (My brother and his wife have an adorable niece named L'eau Lise, so it also makes me think of her)
Today was pretty low key, but I'm going to a showcase at a neighboring circus school – one of my good friends is doing an eating disorder recovery aerial hoop / burlesque act that I'm going to cheer on! Tomorrow we're going to Zack's sister's place in Toledo to see our nieces, great nephews, and great niece. (They also have kittycats named Remington and Steele)
Love to Connor Claire and Tabs!
Karen says
Your niece had such a cute name. Does your family have French roots?
Hope your friend’s performance went well.
Connor sends you a big hug!
Chelsea says
We definitely don’t, not sure about my brother’s wife’s family!
The performance went well. Thanks for the hugs little Connor!

I liked the original but I think it has been tweaked a bit anyway. but I am a bit older than you.
I will check the new one out, new scents sucker me in especially in September when so many launch.
Karen says
Hi Isabella,
I’ve heard that about No. 5. Wish I could smell the version before this current one. Have you ever smelled No. 5 Eau Premiere? It’s lovely as well, a bit less citrusy and more powdery compared to the new L’eau.
Debbie says
Hey Karen,
Are they new Chanel lipglosses? What’s the one in the middle?
Karen says
Hi Debbie,
The Chanel glosses are vintage shades from old collections. 🙂 Are you a Glossimer fan? What’s your fave shade? Mine is Astral, a glittery pink.

Love seeing your posts again Karen! Are the interns no longer posting anymore, if so can they post a goodbye post or something, what can I say, I like closure! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Teresa,
It’s good to be back. The interns have mostly gone back to their busy lives now. I really appreciate their help. They were wonderful, weren’t they? They would all love to hear from you on their blogs and social media, and I’m sure they’ll still be posting here on MBB every once in a while.

‘Why so ssssserious?’
‘Oh no, I’m not being serious, this is Chanel L’Eau!’

Don’t melt up there! That’s where my dad lives or rather just south of there in Cottonwood (don’t blink or you’ll miss it.) Have fun! And I doubt you could find a Chanel counter up there, or at least when I used to live there. (though that was many moons ago…) I bet Tabs is really missing you!
Agata says
I must have missed it, what are you doing in Redding?
I have never been a fan of Chanel No.5 either, to be honest.
Yesterday we went to a party that one of Mike’s son’s hockey coaches throws every year, it was the most impressive outdoor party I have ever been to! He has a pond with zip line over it, 2 slides, there were 3 bouncy houses for kids, a live band, tons of delicious food and drinks!
Today after I get off work I think I am going to sleep all day. I have been exhausted. Lots of changes at work and I am really stressed out. To a point where I need to find some way to wind down and just relax without doing anything…
isabella says
Hi Karen
Eau Premiere is rather nice as well
but my most recent purchase Cristalle Eau Verte, beautiful scent I think from the 70’s (might b wrong on that) but its perfect for now, very green if you like that kind .
my grey tabby is watching the world as I type 🙂
Jessica says
$132?
yeah…. no.
Kim says
I realize this isn’t the time to visit but I recently read about Lassen Volcanic Park. Have you been? It’s close to Redding, which made me think about it. Looks super cool! Well, neat. Definitely not cool. 🙂
As for the Chanel L’eau, I’ll have to give it a sniff. Not a No. 5 person, either. My “old and heavy” fave was always Poison.
kellly says
Personally, I really don’t like Chanel No.5. Not for me and not on anybody else, either. I hope the new version is better because the original version is definitely not for me – not even in my vicinity!!
