Chanel Les Contrastes de Chanel Fall 2010: Cassis Long-Lasting Eyeliner Equals Love

June 25th, 2010 by Karen 14 Comments

Chanel Cassis Long Lasting Eyeliner Review Swatches Photos

Coco doesn’t do anything halfway, and with Chanel Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Cassis ($28), she’s setting her sights on our eyes!

I always knew it would take something special to lure me away from my tried-and-true MAC Technakohl eyeliners. Cassis, a dark plummy black matte liner (cassis, aka blackcurrant), just barely outlasts the Techs (should be noted, though, that it costs considerably more), and it’s one of two eyeliners in the new Les Contrastes de Chanel fall collection, the second being Chanel’s $27 Intense Eye Pencil in Clair.

First thing’s first: yep, it’s waterproof, long-wearing, and it offers lazy beasts like moi the ability to use it on both the water and lash lines (YAY!). I wore Cassis yesterday with the Chanel Enigma Eyeshadow Palette, and it held its ground for a respectable eight hours with minimal fading. Of course, it applies smoothly, as well, and for easy application remains easy to smudge and blend for about three minutes. After that, Cassis don’t move for nothin’!

It’s definitely coming with me on my next tropical trip because, for Cassis, waterproof is more than just a word. I put some on the back of my hand, let it dry and then almost couldn’t wash it off! It withstood three vigorous hand washings, WITH SOAP! Awesome, since I sweat like that guy who melted into sea water in the first X-Men movie.

I’m so glad Chanel’s adding this to the permanent line. I can easily see myself wearing it down to the nub! While the $28 price tag hurts, Cassis might be worth that chunk of change if you wear eyeliner often. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

You might like the Chanel Cassis Long-Lasting Eyeliner if…

  • You need waterproof, long-wearing color along your lash and/or water lines
  • You want an alternative to basic black eyeliner
  • You’re already a fan of twist-up, non-sharpening pencils like the MAC Technakohls
  • You use eyeliner often and look at it as an investment

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow! The cassis eye pencil is just as beautiful as I’d imagined it would be. I’m so glad it will become part of the permanent collection. My eyes are a deep moss green and plums always make their color pop. I know Chanel is expensive, but the pencils apply so smoothly and wear a long time. I have the pencils in several different colors. I apply once in the morning and I’m good for the day. Evening might require a refresh, but that’s true of just about everything. And, at the end of the day, they can be removed without a lot of tugging and scrubbing.

What about Clair? Have you seen it? I passed on Blanc because it was essentially just a another white pencil, albeit a very nice one.

      Hi Eileen,

I think I might have to pick a few of these next time I head to the counter; I’m eyeing Marine and Vert Bronze. Have you tried either of them?

As for Clair, I haven’t seen it yet, but I plan to hunt it down this weekend. 🙂

I have the Marine (navy blue), Celadon (dark green), and Black Shimmer (light shimmery black). I use the Celadon with the Murano quad and I use Marine with Bois Bleu. The Black Shimmer is a veritable workhorse and goes well with anything whenever you want a soft, misty looking liner. I’ve had all of these over a year and they are still smooth and creamy. Surprisingly, Vert Bronze didn’t do much for my eye color 🙁 It would probably be much prettier on you.

OMG. I really need this eyeliner in my life. I’ve been looking for a colour like this as purples look nice on me. Have you tried any of the other colours?

W.a.n.t. i.t. – did you ever try Giorgio Armanis eyleiner in eggplant, can you compare? I do not care much about waterproof, but I am looking for longer now for something in this shade.
Btw: Whatever you put on, it always looks beautiful! You look gorgious!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
