Benefit Dallas Blush Gives Cheeks a Peachy Glow

September 17th, 2008 by Karen 50 Comments

When I was growing up in the 80s and listening to hip hop in the ‘burbs, I totally wanted a pony. In terms of transportation, I figured a pony would be soooo much cooler (and much more interactive) than my yellow bike with the banana seat. My bike was a’ight, but a pony would have been able to jump fences when I needed to escape the playground bully (let’s call her Tammy… B*tch, you know who you are!).

I never got the pony, but I think that wanting one partly explains why I like Benefit’s Dallas blush ($28).

Look at the cute box it comes in! I could have been that girl riding the pony, le sigh!

Dallas comes with a small, flat brush with a wooden handle. The wearable color would have made it great to take on vacay if the box had been better constructed for travel. It’s just cardboard and doesn’t snap shut. I could see it withstanding a brief Tabs attack (he’s been into swiping at stuff lately), but it might not do well stored in a checked bag or casually dropped into a big purse.

I really like how pretty the color looks and how it goes with almost everything. For the past few days, I’ve been doing minimal makeup for work, and to give my cheeks a quick, peachy flush, I’ve dusted them with two layers of Dallas.

Benefit Dallas

Price: $28
Use: To give cheeks a flushed, peachy glow
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Despite wanting a sturdier box, I really like Dallas blush a lot. I’m giving her prime retail space on top of my dresser so she’s available when I need quick color on my cheeks before running out the door.

Agghhhhh! This week is dragging. I have so much crap to get done tonight, but all I really want to do is wrap myself up in a blanket on the couch, eat a Cup O’ Noodles for dinner and watch Sex and the City DVDs.

How are things with you? What was the highlight of your day?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hi hun!

I love their blushes!I have gone through at least 10 “hula’s”…its my #1 bronzer!

My BF swears by Dallas….I used it one time and I put way too much on…its pretty potent! But it is a great color…I need to re visit it!

My day is going fantastic! My my highlight was pushing my self at my cardio boxing class tonight and feelin O so GOOD! Man I love to hit that bag!

Ok off the subject but I am in major need of a great foundation…I loved the MAC mineralize liquid (NC37 holla!) but for some reason it burns near my eye area…and I am not a sensative gal. I love to use my sonya k brush or my MAC 187 to apply. What do you prescribe?

Have a fun night…I am in bed with the puppies watching project runway! 😉

That shade is amazing on you! Very natural indeed.

Hmm, seems like practicality conflicts with prettiness when it comes to BeneFit products…

    Hi KK,

How fun! I am Tivo-ing it so I can watch it tomorrow morning. 🙂 Give the pups hugs for me…

I haven’t tried Hula, but Imma give it a go one of these days.

Cardio boxing sounds fun! Isn’t hitting that bag therapeutic?

Regarding foundation, as much as I love MAC for color their foundations just don’t work for me. For liquid foundation I like Laura Mercier Oil-Free. You can build it up and it photographs really well. How do you feel about creme/compact foundation? I used to think it would be too heavy and too hard to use, but I’ve been using Chanel Teint Innocence for a few months and I really like it!

I just got back from the mall (where I got a DKNY bra on sale for $16!!!). Time for some dinner…

    Hi Betsy,

    Thanks! 🙂

Yeah, I hear ya. It all looks really pretty on a dresser, but isn’t the easiest stuff to travel well. Le sigh!

Hope you’re having a good night!

    Hi Marisol,

Thanks, girlie! You know what I like about this one, too? The brush is useful. Usually I just throw the brushes that comes with products out, but in a pinch this one isn’t too bad.

Have you tried Hula? I think that’s next on my list!

You know, benefit is the brand that I really want to buy but haven’t bought yet. It’s a strange concept but it’s true, at least to me! I really want Dandelion and Benefit Benetint for a looooooooooong time 😀 A professor of mine has the glowiest peachy cheeks ever and I’m sure she uses Dandelion. Have to love Benefit’s packaging though, so cute!

I use Hoola sometimes, since my face doesn’t tan no matter how often I go to the beach, and I love it. The brush is so cute, but it gives me streaks when I use it so I use Sephora’s bronzer brush.

this is one product that i waited for a long time to get and eventually realized it didn’t work for my skin tone. I love BeneFit Face Powder in Dandelion, Georgia and 10 but I couldn’t use this one. it’s so odd though as I can use Chanel Joues Contraste in 03 Brume D’or which I swatch side by side with Dallas and the two looked very similar…

anyway, you look good with it on. 🙂

ps: I have done a review on Clarins eye shadow quad #40. But I want the one you have! the SA told me it is not here yet. sigh

I tried Dallas but I think it was too dark for my palest pale complexion. I have thrrrob (light shimmery pink) but I think it’s too pink! I might return it *hemming and hawing*. I think I need to try Nars Super Orgasm blush and then make a decision.

My friend has dandelion and keeps it in her purse. It’s a medium sized purse, gets jumbled around a lot, and the box has held up really well. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

I love these box ‘o powders! I recently picked up Dandelion and I reach for it constantly. I even wear it as a finishing/highlighting powder at times.

I would be interested in trying the others too. Thanks for the review! That box is seriously adorable. Does Dallas have a smell to it also? Dandelion has a nice smell.

I like that this is more of a brownish color than an orangey color. I would not do well with a box that can’t shut though. Things on my bathroom counter like to miraculously fall on the floor whenever I’m not home. I think my cat like to creep up there when I’m away and play with my makeup or whatever else happens to catch his eye up there.

I finally got to go to Target and play with some of their new makeup lines. I was sort of let down by the JK Jemma Kid stuff. The eye shadows were so silky, but some of them didn’t have the best pigmentation. Although, I did end up picking up the liquid eyeliner you featured a couple of days back in Drama. I love it. I really liked some of the NP stuff, but I about fell over when I realized how expensive it was. I found a concealer or a foundation that I liked a lot but it was like $30 or $32. A little pricey for me, especially from Target.

I’ve always wondered about this- I have Georgia Peach and love it. I thought this was more brown, and being a pale girl, I thought it wouldn’t be good on me. But this looks lovely! I’ll have to pick it up in my next Sephora order!

I really love Dallas; it’s the perfect mix of color and shimmer.

Personally I tend to stay away from Hoola- my skin is too fair, and it looks kind of muddy on me. But I know others who swear by it.

I always wanted to try Georgia Peach, but the color is intimidating.

BTW, I have “10” and Dandelion by Benefit, and they actually do travel pretty well if you just wrap a rubber band around them! Not the most beautiful alternative, but functional! 🙂

I can’t make my mind up about this one – I’m really pale and I think it might be too much on my skin tone, but if its anything like Dandelion it’ll be a lovely product to use.

I tend to keep mine in my makeup bag in my bigger bag during the day and its fine, no breakages or lids coming off or anything. I think its the only blush I’ve ever come close to finishing too.

Dallas is a gorgeous mauvey-rose color that makes my face come alive every morning. I usually alternate this with NARS Orgasm. both are awesome!

    Hi Karen!

I love Dallas! I was sort of hessitant about using it before because of the shimmer and brownish tone. I didn’t start using blush until a year ago and bought the Benefit’s powder pop that had the 3 popular blushes in one box. I really want the thrrrrob and 10 powder. They’re so quick and easy to use. I’ve also been wanting the NARS outlaw blush. I especially can’t wait for the SATC movie dvd to come out next week. I can’t stop listening to Jennifer Hudson’s song at the end of the movie. It makes me happy.
