BECCA Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed: My Pores Would Like to Make a Toast to This Highlighter

July 1st, 2015 by Karen 49 Comments

Wearing the new $38 limited edition BECCA Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed

One of my life goals is to someday open a bottle of champagne with a longsword or saber (honestly, I would not be surprised to be the only one of us here with that goal).

Another one of my life goals is to someday achieve perfectly dewy skin.

I never expected these two life goals to collide…

Well, technically they don’t, because there weren’t any medieval weapons involved in the crafting of this post, but metaphorically they do, because just like a freshly opened bottle o’ bubbly, BECCA Champagne Pop, the brand’s latest limited edition Shimmering Skin Perfector, will make your cheekbones POP and your skin glow. 🙂

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop ($38)
A woefully sad, crushed pan of BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop ($38, and I’ll explain the story behind the broken pan in a minute)

I made this face the first time I swept BECCA Champagne Pop on my cheeks.

DAT GLOW THO!!

This light, warm and shimmery peachy golden powder is a full-on, high-beam, dancing-on-the-stage-and-shaking-what-yo’-mama-gave-you-with-no-shame highlighter.

In other words, it’s serious, hyphen-heavy, real-deal shimmer. 🙂

Should this come as a big surprise?

No, probably not, since it’s the product of a collaboration between BECCA and beauty YouTuber Jaclyn Hill, who has a well-known penchant for bitchin’ beauty tutorials and boldly highlighted skin.

Speaking of Jaclyn, have you seen any of her videos? If not, you should! — because they’re great. She packs a lot of good, practical info into her videos, and she’s bubbly, friendly and easy to understand.

This smokey cat eye video here was the first of her videos I ever watched, and it got me hooked on her channel (also made me crack up laughing)…

Because Jaclyn has such a huge following, Champagne Pop could sell out in less than 2.5 seconds when it goes on sale tomorrow at sephora.com online, but if you miss out, don’t worry. It’ll also be available at Sephora stores starting July 16.

Now let’s talk about DAT GLOW THO.

Sure, Champagne Pop intensely shimmers, but that’s not unusual for a BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector. The beauty of it is that despite the highly reflective finish, it doesn’t appear frosty or metallic, and it still somehow manages not to make my pores look like you could do Olympic high dives into them.

The powders contain something BECCA refers to as “ultra-fine luminescent pearls,” which I think is fancy talk for “light reflecting and refracting particles,” as well as “multi-toned pigment pearls,” which are supposed to adjust to the natural undertones in your skin.

Yo…whatever kind of highlighting hocus-pocus is at work here, I don’t know, but whatever it is, it’s totally working for me.

If you want a high-shine highlighter that won’t emphasize your pores or fine lines, try Champagne Pop.

I’ve been wearing this family of highlighters for a few years now, and I think Champagne Pop looks slightly peachier than Opal and Moonstone, two of the more popular existing shades. It should go really well with peach and coral blushes.

becca champagne pop
Swatch of BECCA Champagne Pop (for reference, I’m a MAC NC42)

Regarding the crushed pan in the pic above that looks like it spent a rough night with Matthew McConaughey, that’s one of the major bummers about this highlighter. It does NOT travel well. The formula is super soft, almost creamy to the touch, which is great when you’re buffing it out on the tops of your cheekbones or swatching on your arm (“It’s soft like my tabby’s pantaloons!”), but not so great for skipping or hopping.

I recommend storing the compact in something padded to reduce the chance of breakage, or you could always mummify it with a dozen rubber bands like some kind of crazy makeup person.

Or, just keep it on your vanity and don’t take it anywhere.

All in all, I think Champagne Pop is a lovely high-shine highlighter, but if you already have several highlighters in your makeup bag, including a light peachy gold, and/or you don’t wear peach or coral blushes very often, and/or you need something sturdy that you can just toss into your bag, you may not need it (but you may still want it, in which case, I say go for it). 🙂

PRICE: $38
AVAILABILITY: Available at Sephora stores on July 16 and online at sephora.com July 2

Yeah, the release of this has been all the rage on social media. The world definitely lit up when she released a palette in a collaboration with Morphe. This one’s an easy pass for me since I bought the last LE skin perfector in Blushed Copper. I think that’s the name. That one is really to die for. I’m not much of a highlighter gal since I achieve dewy skin faster than you can say “whatchamacallit”. But it’s still a beauty. Sorry she crashed on you. Looks like she won’t get to travel the world with you 😉

No, sadly. I know, I know. Go ahead and say it. “KISHIA! You’re the last person on the planet who doesn’t have an Instagram acct!” Honestly, I have a love/hate relationship with social media. But also, my life just isn’t that interesting for me to snap pics of. I’m almost certain no one would follow me. But, on the other hand, I could totally follow super cool peeps like you. Seriously, some of your makeup looks are to die for. And since your’s truly just got a set of Wayne Goss makeup brushes (insert scream here) I may be able to replicate some of them. *Sigh* Keep up the peer pressure/strong arm antics, I’m jumping on the bandwagon sooner than you expect

Ahh Opal is my favorite highlighter ever so I really want to get Champagne but I am sure it will sold out before I get my paws on it and also I shouldn’t be buying makeup right now.

I need to make sure I package my Opal well before I move! I couldn’t bear it breaking!

Alison mentioned that she puts a cotton round in the pan and it helps. Maybe keep it with you in your purse and wrap it with some socks? I know that sounds cray but you gotta do what you gotta do.

      When are you moving?

Awww! Yay! I just dropped Quincy off at the rabbit sanctuary for a few days of vacation while we go up north for the fourth! He’ll get scheduled feedings and a mani pedi while he’s there.

My friend found a friendly domestic rabbit hanging out at her apartment complex, took care of it for a day and took it to the shelter, where another friend adopted it 🙂 People just setting pet bunbuns free makes me sad. He was a super friendly guy, was clearly someone’s pet.

Zizzi was very playful; she’d run around her pen and play when it was feeding time. Let me see if I can post some pics…I have to ask her mom and dad first.

I’m glad that bun was able to find a forever home. Thank goodness your friend found him!

I have (4) of the Ambient Light powders (the trio and Mood Light) and just got this Becca highlight in the mail today.

I immediately swatched Champagne Pop on my hand and then applied some to the tops of my cheeks. In my opinion, there isn’t really a comparison between the Hourglass and the Becca.

Hourglass, while it can be built up, is subtle enough that even this oily-skinned woman can wear them all over my face as a setting powder. They can be built up to use a bronzer/blush/highlight (depending on the shade and your skin tone), but they aren’t in your face with shine. They’re gorgeous and I love them.

Becca, on the other hand, is totally in your face (in a very good way). The powder itself was so much smoother than I thought it would be and the shine is amazing. This is not subtle at all, though you could probably make it a little less BAM! with a lighter hand and blending it out.

In my not-so-humble opinion they are two different products entirely and you could totally justify getting both an Ambient powder (or 5) and a Becca highlighter (or 3). 🙂

Hey Tanja! This is exactly what I was asking! So helpful. Thanks a lot! I saw people on youtube using hourglass as setting power and bronzer, and got so confused cuz I always thought it should be a highlighter. haha. Your opinion made me decide to buy the hourglass trio, cuz I am not a fan of dewy-glowy face. I had a sample of Laura Mercier backed highlighter for a long time and finally started using it. But BECCA will always be on the list until I put them in the shopping cart. Thank you so much again!!!!

That’s exactly what happened to my pan of Blushed Copper. Speaking of this shade, do you have it? I like it but never wear it because it’s way too dark and orange as a highlighter, but way too garish and reflective when used as a blush. Any ideas on how you use it? Thanks!

After you posted about Becca shimmering pore perfecters last month I went out and bought 2, one liquid ( in topaz) and one powder (can’t remember name, it’s a taupe one). My son was obsessed with the pan and wanted to hold it. I let him and after about 5 minutes the powder was all crushed and broken. *super sad fsce* . I think these powders have a tendency to break really easily because he plays with my other makeup and has never broken anything.

I love them btw, thank you for introducing me to them. The liquid topaz is awesome with a summer tan. Very super-model glowy. I want to get that golden one that you modeled recently too!!!

PS – is Becca a “natural” line similar to Tarte?
