NYX Away We Glow Liquid Highlighter Makes It Easier for Makeup Lovers to Get Their Affordable Glow On

July 18th, 2017 by Karen 11 Comments

And Awaaaaay We Glow! The NYX Away We Glow Liquid Highlighters from the top in Moonbeam, Daytime Halo and Gold Rush.

Calgon NYX, take me away! Take me to that place where highlighters don’t have to be so totally in your face, and where folks cherish a subtle pearly glow.

Oh, my goodness! The NYX Away We Glow Liquid Highlighters are so, so good! I was expecting a chunky, obvious “hello from the outer reaches of the universe” type of highlight from these liquid highlighters, but they aren’t like that at all. I’ve tried three of the nine shades, all of which are available in the permanent line, and they’re gloriously subtle. They have more of a pearly sheen than an in-your-face frost, and I think they look just like the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfectors (but at a fraction of the cost).

Wearing a mix of Daytime Halo and Gold Rush on the bridge of my nose and my upper cheekbones…

I dunno… Maybe because these are only $6.99 each, I was expecting bigger pieces of glitter and frost that highlighted my fine lines. Shame on me for automatically assuming that, just because these are inexpensive, they wouldn’t be very good.

But they are.

I love that I can so easily erase any visible edges and blend them into whatever else I might be wearing — foundation, cream blush, etc. All it takes is a few pats and swipes of a finger. Plus, they’re easy to build up or sheer out, and they last all day for me.

In a word, they’re “luminous.” In five words, they’re “inexpensive but not cheap-looking.”

Go on with your bad self, NYX! Thank you for making it easier for makeup lovers to get their affordable glow on.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      Hi Katie,

Yay for subtle highlighters! Yes, I agree, NYX has been doing lots of fun things lately. I have a review on the Lid Lingerie palette coming soon. Have you tried it? It’s so good!

I haven’t, but your swatches look gorgeous!! And I’m not someone who minds fall-out, so it looks great! And good drugstore mattes are sooooo hard to find. I think I’m going to pick it up next time I’m at Bed Bath and Beyond (I’ve got a huge stack ‘o coupons waiting to be used)!

They have the BEST coupons! I would shop there more often if it was closer and if didn’t stress me out, LOL! Sometimes I get overwhelmed when I walk in there because there’s just so much stuff to look at. It’s wonderful and terrifying at the same time.

Oh I wish I had read this post a week ago! I went to a NYX store when I was in Vegas for work, I would’ve picked one. I saw them but I had the same prejudice you had, thinking that cheap highlighter might look cheap… They look lovely though.
And I’m all for a subtle highlight. I think the current “metallic cheek” trend has lost view of what highlighting is for: sculpting the face with light and making the skin look healthy and glowy. But hey to each their own, if you like metallic cheeks, you do you!

Wow, these look amazing! Very wearable for those with paler complexions, and pretty similar to Becca like you said. NYX has been releasing some awesome products lately, the metallic liquid suede lipsticks are to die for 🙂

Wow, that’s some high praise! Becca always has such beautiful skin products. I’m amazed that something in the NYX price range can compete. What a great find!!

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
