The NUDESTIX Nude(art)ist Creator’s Palette Has a Few Stories to Tell

December 4th, 2017 by Karen 18 Comments

I could happily spend an entire day (or night!) with a good book on my couch, just reading and reading for hours on end, and maybe that’s one of the reasons I love things that have a good story behind them, even makeup, whether it’s an entire collection like Chanel’s Travel Diary, or individual items with catchy backstories, like the pencils in the NUDESTIX Nude(art)ist Creator’s Palette ($59).

Six new nude limited edition shades in the long-lasting Magnetic Matte Lip Color formula

It’s a little funny to me that this is called a palette, because the cute tin actually contains a set of six new full-sized LE shades of NUDESTIX Magnetic Matte Lip Color, the brand’s line of creamy, smooth long-wearing waterproof — I wanna call them liquid lipsticks — lip crayons.

The Magnetic Mattes are three-in-one liquid lipsticks/lip pencils/lip stains, and they last me anywhere from six to nine hours.

Each of the colors in the Creator’s Palette was developed by a different social media influencer, and every one has a story behind it, like matte dark chocolate brown Joyce, which was created by Instagram artist @cydbee, whose first memories of makeup are of her mom putting on her favorite chocolate brown lipstick.

I think that’s so sweet!

“I wanted to create Freckle to suit a larger range of skin tones — something dramatic and grungy on fairer skin, and a gorgeous everyday color for deeper skin tones. This shade is in my absolute favorite matte formula, something creamy and easy to apply that isn’t overly drying, but has insane staying power.” —@ssssamanthaa

“Go Girl represents feeling confident in yourself, taking your power back, and letting your natural beauty take center stage.” —@saythelees

“I wanted something I could wear everyday but that still stood out. BABY K compliments any makeup look, but can still be worn on its own. This lip color is for the girl that doesn’t want too much fuss but still wants to be different — an everyday color for the spunky girl.” —@iamkareno

“The Sonoran desert spans across Arizona where I am originally from, which is what inspired the name of my lip color, Sonoran. I wanted to create an everyday nude to match the color palette of the desert, but I added in gold flecks because there is nothing quite as magical like a sunset spilling over the stillness of the desert.” —@lynettecenee

“I created my color Montaigne because it’s the perfect nude lip color to match any look in my favorite long lasting formula. It is the definition of an iconic nude.” —@makeupbydg

“I’m calling my lip color Joyce because my earliest memory of makeup is my mom wearing her favorite chocolate brown lipstick. I wanted to create a color that brings back those nostalgic feelings, and name it after my favorite person, my mom!” —@cydbee

The palette’s a pretty good deal for $59, because the Magnetic Matte Lip Color crayons are usually $24 each.

For completely opaque, kiss-proof color, I swipe these once on my top lip and once on my bottom lip — so, like, if you want long-lasting matte lip color that doesn’t transfer onto your tabby cat’s luxuriously plush fur (or your current crush’s cheek), you can totally get that with the Magnetic Mattes.

But FYI, keep your fave lip balm around if your lips are hella dry like mine because these can be drying.

Any of these catch your eye? My faves are light pink Go Girl and warm reddish brown Freckle.

Like the rest of the gnarly NUDESTIX line, the Creator’s Palette is cruelty- and fragrance-free, and you can find it now at Sephora.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Freckle really looks beautiful. Just like you I love it when brands tell the story behind the release, it makes the products much more special.

Sonoran would make me look dead, but the story behind it is beautiful. I too, grew up the the Sonoran desert. There is no other place like it. I swear it holds magic! So I know how she was inspired by it. Thanks Karen!

      Hi Danielle,

I know what you mean. I’ve visited the desert a few times and in many ways it feels sublime and magical.

Oh, if you’re still interested in this formula, there are other NUDESTIX shades in the permanent line, and they’re pretty wearable. 🙂

Wow, they really are matte. I like Freckle, too. The pencils look like the NARS Velvet Matte lippies. 🙂

      Hi Kim,

They do look a lot like them. These do the thing where they grip onto lips after application, which is different from NARS, which stays light and velvety.

Speaking of velvet, have you ever tried the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lippies? They’re so good! I think you would love them.

I feel like I prefer the light and velvety. The clingers usually feel drying to me. 🙂

I haven’t tried them but I just added them to my list (under Chanel stylo yeux liner). I’m glad we don’t have a Chanel counter nearby and their makeup is not sold on Sephora. They’re so bad for my wallet. HAHA!

OK, you’ll love the Chanel Velvets then. Probably the NARS Powermattes, too (my fave). If you fall in love with either of them I promise I will help feed the fire.

But what do you think of them formula-wise?
I have one shade in the range, not from this “palette”, an individual one, Burgundy? I think thats the one. I don’t remember the name well, but I DO remember that I wore it once and vowed to never again.
It was soooooooo thick on my lips. And then I made a mistake of having lunch – out – and it was so messy. It came off on parts of the lip, but left an outer ring, that was absolutely almost impossible to get rid of. And reapplying was a nightmare.

So I am curious to know if these ones are better? I do love the colors.
    Thanks, Karen! 🙂

      Hi Glenda,

I think I know what you’re talking about. I think the trick is to apply one swipe, once on the upper lip, once on the lower lip. Make sure your lips are dry and have no oil on them. If you use very little it doesn’t get heavy or thick, then it stays on, FOR LIKE HOURS. At least for me it does. My issue is that I need SO much moisture and my lips get thirsty after a while. You’ll also need an oil-based remover to take them off as they wear like iron. Let me know if you have any other questions! Happy to help.

    Hi Karen!

How do you feel like these compare against the Nars Powermattes? I’ve been loving the powermattes and can wear them all day without feeling uncomfortably dry or cracked.

      Hi Jade,

I looooove the NARS Powermattes and think that they’re better for dry lips than this formula. You really need to have lips that don’t need a ton of moisture in order to wear these NUDESTIX mattes, because they grip onto the lips like iron and will dry them out if you’re prone to flakes.

Thanks for your reply! I’ll sick with the Powermattes then because my lips tend to dry out this time of year in the Maine winter climate. I’ve had good luck with the Powermattes not wearing weird or flaking so I’ll keep on slowly purchasing all the colors….?

You’re welcome. I love, LOVE the Powermattes too. Their my go-to mattes and my fave liquid formula at the moment. Let me know what colors you use and love! I wanna see if we have any cross over. LOL!
