plumeria-rain

The strangest thing just happened. The sun is out, but it just poured down rain for a few minutes. It was the hardest rain I’ve seen in a while… Maybe it’ll sweep away the chickens, ha!

  • MAC Cosmetics Face of the Day: Hot Pink and Silver
“It’s standard operating procedure for me to wake up on Mondays feeling grouchy, so to celebrate this minor miracle I decided to go big and bold with a full face inspired by the hot pink lip I wore a few days ago in this cosmopolitan-inspired lip look.”
  • Face of the Day: Simple Smokey Eye with Chanel Winter Nights Quad
“As far as complete looks are concerned, this one is quick and easy to do. I used shades from the Chanel Winter Nights Quad, a versatile set with four basic, but pretty shades of pink, peachy gold, green and light brown. The look works well for the office or for things like family functions or semi-formals.”
  • Stila Sun SPF 15 Bronzing Powder: Here Comes the Sun
“Normally, when I apply foundation it evens out my skin color and tone. That’s a good thing, but sometimes foundation creates too much uniformity, aka mannequin skin. Bronzer helps spice up the canvas produced by foundation alone.”
  • Ojon Rub-Out Dry Cleanser: Shower in a Bottle
“I chose to go with the minimal makeup, but my questionable decision didn’t subject the general population to stinky Karen hair. Nope! I used one of my favorite secret short cuts for time strapped mornings: dry shampoo. It’s an absorbent spray-on powder you apply to your roots to cut down on oil and grease. It can’t replace a cleansing hair wash, but it helps in a pinch.”
  • Get the Look for Less: Sonia Kashuk Eye Shadow Duo in Double Whammy
“I think the green in Double Whammy looks a lot like Sprout — they could practically be eyeshadow twins! The blue shade doesn’t exactly match Parrot — it’s more royal blue than turquoise — but it’s still a very pretty color that can be used to duplicate many of the same looks.”

I hope your week gets off to a good start. Mondays can be rough, but at least they’re only 24 hours long. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hope you’re still having a great time! We’re getting some wicked rain here in the Midwest the last few days and spent a few hours on Sat. in the basement as tornadoes were around.

I’m still LOVING the Chanel quad look from earlier. I may need to pay this one a visit.

Well, in Portland today it is grey and cloudy…someone clearly hasn’t gotten the memo yet that it is JUNE here 🙂

On another note, eeeeek, MAC launched their Cool Heat online today and I just :::gulp::: order ALL 7 of the eyeshadows and one of the slimshines. What a girl is going to do with that many blue eyeshadows I dont know! I am definitely going to need your help Karen!!!!

Oh and by the way Karen, your talk of tuberose, Hawaii and the beach made me so long for sunshine and waves that I had to continue my shopping spree 🙂 I finally ordered a perfume I have been dying for made by CB (www.cbihateperfume.com) called “At The Beach 1966” It is described as: “the prime note in this scent is Coppertone 1967 blended with a new accord- North Atlantic. The base of the scent contains a bit of wet sand, seashell, driftwood and just a hint of boardwalk. The effect when you wear this is as if you have been swimming all day in the ocean.”

I have never even smelled this but the description alone made me order it along with the thought of a desperately needed vacation!

Oh, the weather here was blissful today! About 77 degrees, sunny and balmy! It almost made me feel like I was in tropical paradise with you! 🙂

I went by my local MAC store today and pre-ordered Cool Heat too! I got Gulf Stream, Cool Heat, Blue Flame and Warming Trend eyeshadows and Swelter and Tropic Glow slimshines! Wooooooooot! 😉

Hawaii rain is weird, but its sooo beautiful and its not ice cold! I actually find it calming to hear the rain hit the ti leaves outside my window. Oh and the smell of rain… I can’t describe it, but it has this funny fresh smell.
Since you are on Oahu, are you and Mrs. Lynne going to meet up?

Did you just snap that photo? If so, it’s gorgeous and furthers my need to go back to Hawaii for vacation.

    Hi Tuprnut,

Oh no! Tornadoes really terrify me. I hope you guys are okay!

You’ll love winter nights (WOOT!). I’m not sure if it was limited edition, though. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope that your counter has it.

    Hi Meaghan,

Sweeeet! That’s going to be a fun haul! Girl, you know one girl needs countless amounts of blue eyeshadow. If you want a voice of reason I’ll try and do my best, though.

Thanks for the link to that site! That perfume sounds like it might be similar to Bobbi Brown Beach!

    Hi Glosslizard,

Yay! MAC haul time! When are you picking up your loot? First thing on Thursday? 😉

Stay cool in the heat, girl!

    Hi Krystle,

We’re gonna try to! I’m doing a lot of stuff with family (you know how it is… one food fest after another) and I gotta get in my beach time. The waves on the south side are crazy good! I’m so happy!

I like hearing the rain outside, too.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
