Laura Mercier Haulin’, and Info on Gold Digger

March 15th, 2008 by Karen 41 Comments

Your girl did a lil’ hauling today at the Macy’s Union Square Laura Mercier counter. I picked up some cream shadows from the Dreamy Collection, along with a navy blue cake eyeliner and a flat eyeliner brush.

Here’s a pic of the haul sans camera flash:
laura-mercier-haul-no-flash.jpg

I know I’ve moaned and groaned about my one bad incident with a Laura Mercier cream blush brush, but when Frank, a cool makeup artist at the Union Square counter, showed me how to use a flat eyeliner brush to apply Bleu Marine Eye Liner on my waterline (to make my eyes look bigger), I had a moment. I’ve got a good feeling about this brush. I sure hope it doesn’t break in half like the cream blush brush did.

Tip: Make time for retail therapy. 😉

At the counter, I also got the scoop on products in the upcoming Gold Digger Collection (April). Expect to see:

Nail Lacquer: a high-shine formula, long-lasting and chip-resistant
Colour Pots: both cream and powder formulas within the same color family
Bronzer Duos: an innovative dual-shade bronzer
Lip Glace: lipgloss with a touch of shimmer
Double Ended All-over Powder/Creme Blush: to be partnered with Colour Pots

The specific colors are still a mystery, but I expect to see a lot of, um, gold. I’ll do some digging this week and will report what I find, fo’ sho! I’m totally stoked about this collection and can’t wait to see it, wheeeee!

Oh, and if you’ll be in the San Francisco Bay Area between April 3-5, the Laura Mercier counter at Macy’s Union Square is hosting a Gold Digger launch party. Call ahead to schedule a makeover with acclaimed Laura Mercier National Artist Ryan Thomas, whose work has been seen on the walkways of top designers like Bagley Mischka, Chanel and Oscar de La Renta. The number to call is (415) 296-4454.

I hope your weekend’s been great so far. What’ve you been up to? Did you haul, too? 😉

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Karen,

I dig the bleu marine eyeliner! Can you show us how to apply it to make your eyes look bigger? I had my retail therapy today too, posted it under your previous blog. You need to check out the BioFit bra from VS though, it’s fab!

    Hi Dao,

It’s been a while since I’ve tried VS bras, but that BioFit bra sounds really nice! I used to wear the Body by Victoria line a few years back until I discovered DKNY bras (they fit me just right, and my hard-to-find size is always available.) I think next time I hit up VS to look at makeup I’ll try that one one ’cause it sounds very comfy, so thanks for the recommendation. 🙂

Sure, I’ll do a tutorial on how to use Bleu Marine on the waterline. It’s a technique that Laura Mercier calls “tightlining”. I have to finish this huge project but after Thursday I’ll have more time to do a nice tutorial with pics!

    Hi Glosslizard,

Sure! I’d love to do that tutorial. I have to practice a few times on my own this week first. 🙂

It really does stay on all day. Frank applied it to my waterline at 11:00 and when I washed my face this evening it was still on there. It was pretty amazing. There’s a pretty green shade that I have my eye on next!

LOL, why wait? Sometimes I put it on at night just to play and practice. You gotta be in your jammies though, to get the full effect!

Everyone is picking up that Fergie lipglass, dang! I gotta try it now.

    BTW, I *love* the 187!!!

It’s a cream to powder eyeshadow base. I have it in Caramel, which is an all purpose tan color, but wanted Peach for warmer shades. 🙂

I can’t wait to play with Bleu Marine over the next few days, WOOT!

Hope you’re having a good weekend so far! Been doin’ anything fun?

Ooh, I love cake eyeliners. I’m currently using Ben Nye, which is WAY black. The LM ones weren’t cost-effective enough for my budget/liking (i.e. too little product for the price). But I hope you like it. I’d also be interested in a tutorial please!

I’ve heard good things about Ben Nye from my girl Apple Diva over at Pumps and Gloss. Do you have any other favorites from the line?

    Hi Sandy,

It’s thinner than Paint Pot because it’s liquid. If you’ve plaint with MAC Paint then that’s a similar consistency, except Eye Basic is a bit more mousse-y and whipped looking.

I think it’s as good as Paint Pot, and a bit easier to use because it spreads easier. If you are going for subtle, natural eye makeup then they are a good choice.

    Hi Kelly,

Brush applied ones are really easy to apply, which is why I like ’em. I didn’t like eye pencil either until I tried MAC Technakohl. Have you heard of it? It’s this really soft, twist up eyeliner (no need for sharpening) that is the easiest eyeliner pencil I’ve ever tried. It never tugs and it totally stays put (but still allows me to smudge it!).

    Hey Karen!

The family went to Kohl’s yesterday to do some Easter shoe shopping for the little one and Mommy checked out the Flirt! Lip Lacquers. I picked one out in Pop Star and it’s great. Today, I ditched the family after church and went back to another Kohl’s (I’m on a hunt for pictures for our bathroom…)anway, they only had the lip lacquer in the color that you posted. The other Kohl’s had about 8-10 colors, which apparently aren’t supposed to launch until April, so I lucked out!

Besides that, we’ve been lounging, which is one of my favorite things to do.

Again, I COVET your Laura Mercier in a big way. Fairytale looks perfect for me. Can’t wait to see what these look like on you!

    Happy Sunday!

    Hi Tuprnut!

    Happy Sunday to you too!

Woo hoo, don’t you love when you have good makeup luck? What does Pop Star look like? BTW, I love seeing little kids in their Easter outfits, aww!

Today El Hub and I went to the gym in the morning and then out to lunch. I’m doing some work right now (I’m finding this is a never ending cycle, LOL) but to ease the pain a bit I put on Mesmerize during a writing break an hour ago. I’m gonna scrub it off during my next break so that I can try Fairytale on next. 🙂

Pop Star is a really pretty medium-toned pink with subtle sparkle. I’m horrible at shade descriptions, so I hope that helps. It’s pretty much the perfect shade for me (NC20, medium golden brown hair, blue/grey eyes)… and it’s the type of shade that I’m immediately drown to. Perfectly pink, perfectly girly.

I love that you tried out the e/s for a work break! When I was still at my office job, I remember taking breaks from the computer, phone, whatnot, so that I could put some lipstick and gloss on and for a moment escape it all.

Pop Star sounds like something I’d be drawn to, yum! Time to go a huntin’…

LOL, I usually have a few tidbits of makeup on my desk. A swipe o’ gloss here, a layer of mascara there, and my stress level goes down a few notches!

You did well this wknd! 😉

I actually did get some makeup this weekend – all free! I picked up the Mineral Primer SPF 30 from Becca, along with their eye smudge brush, and then went to MAC (oh the love!) and got the Eye Kohl pencil in Smolder (black – can you believe I don’t have a black eye pencil??), Liquidlast Liner in Aqualine (“bright teal with gold pearl”), and eyeshadow in Tempting (bronze-gold).

I recently bought a makeup book, Makeup: The Ultimate Guide, by Rae Morris, and it was so inspiring that I needed to go get some new supplies!

I also can’t wait to hit up Sephora when I’m back stateside this week! Still have a bunch more makeup to buy, and it’ll be great to compare prices and brands all in one place…Oh the love!

I love Laura Mercier! I always try to check out their makeover events so thanks for the heads up. The artists do a fabulous job and it’s always fun to head out afterwards for drinks with the new look. it would be fun to get some SF girls together for the makeover, then drinks nearby!

by the way, I ‘tightlined’ my eyes with Bleu marine eyeliner today –It’s my favorite ‘unmade up’ made up look when I want a polished but not heavy eye look.

    Hi Clueless Cat,

Free is always good. I love Becca foundations. I can’t wear mine though (have the stick and the tinted moisturizer) until I get a lil’ bit darker.

MAC Smolder is so rocking! I am usually a strict Technakohl kinda girl but Smolder really is so wonderfully smudgy and workable.

I will check out that book by Rae Morris. I’m building my beauty library and need a few more titles. I went to the bookstore and picked up some fiction, “Specials”, the third in the series of books by Scott Westerfield. I haven’t had the chance to start it though, but after Thursday I will time to devour it! YAY!

I always get sucked into an unexpected purchase or two at BBW, LOL, especially sale stuff.

OH, if my lips smelled like margarita all day I’d be on mental vacation all day long, wheeee!

LM has some great products. It’s definitely a more subdued color look than MAC, that’s for sure. It indulges a different makeup side of me. If you ever need some rec’s let me know. 🙂
