Paint Job: Pixi Nail Colour in Classy Cocoa

October 25th, 2012 by Karen 39 Comments

pixi classy cocoa

A few snapshots of my morning. 🙂

I’m trying to get out of a funk, so I started off the day by cooking a good old-fashioned Filipino-style breakfast, OM NOM NOM! An egg over easy, garlic fried rice and fried shrimp — it’s comfort food my mom makes on Sunday mornings.

filipino style breakfast

A typical Filipino breakfast involves 1) eggs (or meat or seafood), 2) tons of garlic and 2) frying anything (AND EVERYTHING) in copious amounts of oil, LOL! I tried to make it a little healthier by using a non-stick pan and an olive oil mist spray from Trader Joe’s to cut calories and lighten things up, but it was still very hearty. I haven’t been eating a lot (just not hungry), and it certainly filled me up.

After breakfast I took some pics of leaves in the rain…

…and then spent way too much time trying to learn the dance from Jordan Knight’s magnum opus, 1999’s Give It To You.

Note to self: Not a good idea to attempt body rolls before 9 in the morning without stretching first. You’re way too old for that sh*z.

But what really cheered me up was the mani I did with Pixi’s new Nail Colour, Classy Cocoa ($8; available now at Target stores and target.com).

It flashes from a deep chocolate to a purply taupe, and from certain angles, a golden shimmer peeks through. Really super cool, and I think it looks like something you’d find over at Chanel or Dior. I can’t believe it’s only $8!

I used three coats, but you could probably get away with two. I just like how the polish looks that much richer with the third coat.

There’s just something about having freshly painted nails that makes me feel so much better, you know? 🙂

Pretty nail color!! Also, I’m totally jealous. That breakfast looks super yummy. And actually pretty healthy when you think about it. I had a baked sweet potato with honey-flavored butter for breakfast. Good, but I still would have rather had yours.

      Hi Ankita,

Aww, thanks girl! Wish I could say that I get manis regularly because they’re so relaxing, but I usually end up doing my own nails nails ’cause it’s easier for me. I do use a lot of hand cream and nail oil though! Big fan of both. 🙂

      Hi Sara,

Yeah, it looks much more expensive than eight bucks. Don’t you just love drugstore gems?

Oh, and the best thing about this breakfast is you can eat it at any hour of the day. 🙂

That’s a great color. The only thing your breakfast is missing (for me) is a huge chunk of bread. And an epi-pen. HAHA!

I hope you’re feeling OK but agree that if you’re not feeling hungry, take it as a sign from the weight loss gods and don’t eat. 🙂

HAHA! Well, if you ever come to visit I’ll leave out the seafood. I’ll make a note to sub it with a chocolate or Meyer lemon croissant. Sound good?

My boyfriend is Filipino and I remember thinking it was strange to have rice with breakfast but it actually tastes good, especially with an egg on top! I know what you mean about doing a manicure to cheer up, I do one every Sunday night because it makes me feel like I can tackle the week!

I love the color! My fingernails are so short (yes, I’m a nail biter…have tried to stop for years, managed to stop for 2 weeks, broke a nail and went straight back to gnawing on them) that I have only had polish on them a few times in my life. I usually paint my toes. Your breakfast looks delicious! We Italians are garlic lovers too, one of my favorite breakfasts is called Uova in Purgatorio (Eggs in Purgatory/Hell), which is eggs poached in tomato sauce. It’s yummy and full of garlic! You can also add veggies and meat to the sauce, one thing I love about this breaky is that you can keep it simple or really dress it up.

Love the color! I’m a big fan of plummy purples on my nails and something that glimmers between that and taupe is a winner in my book!

JOOOOOORRRRRDAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My pre-teen dream! 😉 He sang that at the concert too (along with The Right Stuff, Rockstar and O-face). You would have loved it! I think have Give it to Me on an old MP3 player somewhere. I’ll have to try and find it.

Rice and eggs for breakfast is awesome, although my favorite Filipino comfort food has to be menudo on some not too sweet pan de sal. My Lolo used to make it with tons of veggies cut up in tiny bits. I wonder how well the flavor would translate if you used tofu instead. (hint hint..more protein! 🙂
