It’s a Giant Halloween! Here’s My Hodgepodge Mani Mix of Glittery Copper, Black and Orange Shades With Zoya, OCC, Deborah Lippmann and Sonia Kashuk

October 31st, 2012 by Karen 29 Comments

Happy Halloween!

I did a couple of different things last night. One, I painted my nails orange and black, both for Halloween and to cheer the Giants winning the World Series, and two, I (kinda) watched The Last Exorcism on Netflix.

On that last one…good grief! What was I thinking firing up a movie about a teenager possessed by a demon 30 minutes before bed?!

Come on, Karen, wake up!

I actually didn’t make it through the whole thing on account of a terrible scene involving a little barn kitty…

I couldn’t take it! But thankfully my nails were dry by then, so I just ran away from the TV screaming “No! No! No!” and went upstairs to bed.

For my nails, I knew I wanted something more complicated than a single color but easier than a fancy work of nail art, so after digging through my drawer of polishes, I settled on a hodgepodge mani mix of glittery copper, black and orange shades…

Clockwise from the black polish in the lower left: Sonia Kashuk Starry Night, Deborah Lippmann I Love the Nightlife, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Copperhead and Zoya Penny

There’s a big rally/parade down in San Francisco today for the Giants, and I’m heading down, but please don’t tell Tabs. I know he’d want to go, but he’s such a cat diva. With the time it takes him to get ready, we’d never make it on time.

My plan is to distract him by mixing a handful of Greenies in with his gravy. Then I’ll quietly sneak out the door. 🙂

In candy news, do you ever crave chocolate in the morning?

I don’t know if it’s hormonal (probably), or just because there’s a big bag of Fun Size Snickers on the kitchen counter, but every day lately I wake up ravenous for chocolate.

What’s up with that?

These Peanut Butter and Chocolate Larabars are pretty good at satisfying my chocolate cravings…

GURL! And I usually don’t even like having bars for breakfast, but these? Oh, these… They’re like breakfast brownies, yum!

The hardest part is pacing myself so I don’t overdose on them.

But enough about that. It’s Halloween! 🙂 Are you dressing up tonight? Do you have any plans?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve been watching a lot of horror movies this month, and every time I fire up Netflix, I look at the Last Exorcism and think “should I?” and then I always pass it up. Why? Because the cover image FREAKS ME OUT. And that’s coming from a huge horror fan. I totally don’t blame you for skipping out early.

You should watch The Innkeepers, which is also on Netflix. It builds tension slowly, and is super awesome.

What a cute mani! I’m gonna be a Halloween grinch this year. I was supposed to be out of town for work so I hadn’t bought any candy. But since I hurt my back, I’m at home, but I can’t get up and down to answer the door.

Also, it is perfectly acceptable to eat chocolate for breakfast. 🙂

You know what’s super delicious? Chocolate croissants, OMG! There’s a bakery in town that makes the best ones…the chocolate isn’t too hard or soft. It’s just right.

How is your back feeling? I hope it’s a little better today.

GRRR to the Giants. I was hoping for the Tigers to come back, but it didn’t happen. At least we beat the Yankees :p

My favorite Larabar is Chocolate Cherry Torte… YUM.

I don’t think I’ve ever tried that one. Will make a note to look for it next time. My second fave is the coconut one! SO GOOD.

I’m not a coconut fan, so I’ve not tried that one!

I can’t find the Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte ones at every grocery store (I shop mostly at regional midwest grocery stores, so you wouldn’t recognize most of the places I shop at!) so I stock up on them at a specific store that carries them.

I need to try to lay off the sweets/desserts, I have a major sweet tooth.

I have a major love for LaraBars. LOVE. Anyway, if you want to make them at home, here’s a great copycat recipe. They never last very long in my house …

Cool nail polish 🙂 I’m a huge fan of Larabar. My favourites are the ones from the Jocalat range which taste like dessert. I nibble on one from time to time, at work when I’m craving sugar. There’s also a Chocolate Coffee one that is delicious. We don’t get it here in Norway, so I buy it online and then have it shipped across. It’s not cheap, but it’s amazing for days when I’m so tired at work. Makes me a less moody person.

      Hi Fieran,

Mmm…just finished another Larabar off for breakfast. Thanks for the info on the Jocalat range. I’ve never tried it before and hope I can find it here! I’ve only seen the regular bars in the stores. The Chocolate Coffee sounds like something I’d love.

How are things in Norway these days? Is it cold yet?

It’s kind of cold 🙂 Between 4 C and -2 C. I wear merino wool mixed with silk tights inside my jeans (TMI, sorry :)) to avoid having really cold legs. Makes walking so uncomfortable.

But otherwise, it’s alright. Looking forward to Christmas though, the city smells amazing then (of clementines and cinnamon).

These are fantastic. I love the colors you chose and the blending is so fun!!

I have a Fiber One bar every work day morning so I’m with you on chocolate for breakfast. I’m not a sweets person and know that they’re not super-good for you, but they’re relatively low cal and get the job done. I’m a big fan of Kind bars but my favorite flavor is hard to find. (Fruit and Nut with yogurt drizzle).

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
