I’m Matte as Hell about MAC Riveting Nail Lacquers!!!

February 13th, 2010 by Karen 40 Comments

For a good time, call 1-800-GO-MATTE. 🙂

LOL! So, last night I decided to play around with MAC’s three new Riveting matte Nail Lacquers ($12), but they turned out to be more trubs than I bargained for.

Both Black Enough? and Wham, Bam, Glam were crazy thick and streaky, but I liked how they looked after three coats. Three coats, though… That’s probably more patience (they say it’s a virtue!) than I have. I prefer my polishes easy like Saturday/Sunday morning.

Of these, the star for me is definitely sparkly Studded. It goes on smooth and glimmers like a galactic exploding disco ball, BAM!

So how do you feel about matte polishes in general (and these in particular)?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Haaaay! Happy Saturday, yo. 🙂

I’m not really huge on matte polishes, but I am really digging that silver. Yay sparkly!

I think I’d be more on board if they were a little easier to apply. I’m not kidding — I had trubs with these!

I really don’t like them, the’re to flat for me. Sparkly (the studdend nail polish) and matte seems like an oxymoron to me!?!? Does anyone else agree with me or am i just trippen??? =)

LOL! I thought the same thing about Studded, Hana. They added glitter to a matte base. I was like wha!?

My weekend is going pretty well – how is yours? It snowed a lot on Friday so everything is looking pretty. Last night I went to a friend’s 30th birthday celebration, so that was fun 🙂

I like matte polishes as a particular look, but I haven’t tried any because of the high-effort application and maintenance! I might cave on Studded, though, it looks like it would be the perfect polish with a leather motorcycle jacket!

I can easily seeing you rocking this with a fierce leather jacket. You’d also need one of those studded bracelets to complete the look!

LOVE. I’ve always been partial to mattes, but I still haven’t picked one up! Studded is just gorgeous — pretty enough to be worth the hassle, I think!

I love the look of the matte nail polishes, but they seem like a lot of work to put on and upkeep! They are also pretty expensive for me, as I don’t wear nail polish that often. I do like Studded… but it’s weird that they called it ‘matte’! (I think someone above also mentioned this point.)

Yeah, I thought that was strange, too. But when it dries down the base looks pretty darn matte.

I like the look of these but if they’re tricky for you I have no doubt it’ll be near impossible for me! I really want to try a matte look….esp paired with my konad over top in a gloss pattern. I’ve heard about using a matte top coat, wouldn’t that be easier than using a tricky matte nailpolish?

Yes! I haven’t done it (not really a fan of the look… I like shine!), but I’ve heard people on twitter say that a mattifying top coat is much easier.

Matte topcoats are the way to go. I have a bottle (I think by China Glaze), and while I haven’t tried regular matte polishes, I hear they chip really easily, and that is definitely not the case with the topcoat.

I am just LOVING that Studded!
Yesterday I was debating over whether to go matte or not since everywhere is sold out of Mad as a Hatter. I ended up getting Dim Sum Plum and the Alice in Wonderland mini pack from OPI because I just can’t make up my mind.

Cute! I love those minis. I almost bought one of the OPI Hong Kong Take Outs at a beauty store today, but got distracted at the CCO across the street and kind of forgot. Oops!

Studded looks a lot like a lighter version of OPI Suzi Skis in The Pyrenees from their Suede collection. I bought it months ago and forgot about it, but I dug it out and used it after seeing this post. I usually don’t care for matte polish (looks like colored white-out to me), but the glitter makes it look really cool. A fast-drying topcoat gives it a little shine, but I also like the way it looks without it too.

I like matte polishes & these are great but it seems that MAC is running late in the game as most of the NP companies have come out with theirs. I do like Wham, Bam, Glam & Studded.

Sorry but ew ew ew!!! I hate matte nail polishes. It reminds me of when I have a regular glossy finish on my nails and I put hand lotion on–I always have to wipe my nails so they are shiny again. Matte just doesn’t look right.

I dislike matte polishes – I think the finish looks unfinished, almost like it was smudged. I do like the Wham Bam, though. There is something intriguing about that color.

I LOVE some matte polishes, others not so much. I Love all the forms of suded-y type polishes, like OPI Suedes or the Orly metal polishes and it looks like Studded is along the same lines. I’ll be snapping that up the day it comes out!!!!
