BB Couture for Regular Guys…and Girls!

Today my girl Kelly of the fantastic Vampy Varnish blog shares the 411 on the new BB Couture Regular Guys nail polish collection.

If you haven’t yet heard of BB Couture nail polish then listen up! The brand hasn’t been around very long but already has an amazing and ever growing array of beautiful and strange colors. If you’re a fan of green nail polishes, in particular, then you might want to strap down your credit card, because they have tons of greens, all unique and gorgeous.

Today’s review looks at one of the collections in their “For Men” line called Regular Guys. Now, just because these are marketed toward men doesn’t mean women can’t wear them! In fact, I don’t know a single man who’d wear nail polish, but that doesn’t mean they don’t. Honestly, I don’t care who these are marketed toward because of how pretty I think they are.

The formula for these, like most of BB Couture’s other colors, is spectacular. It’s smooth, flows nicely and applies quite opaque. BB Couture uses a special “4-in-1 formula”, in which they’ve already added base and top coats to each color, so you don’t need to apply them separately.

You’re supposed to be able to just paint the color on and go, but I still use extra base and top coats, though, just because it’s in my nature, and I feel it helps make my manicures last longer.

Blue Collar, a periwinkle blue with pink shimmer, is right up my alley. Periwinkle happens to be one of my favorite colors for nail polish. What I like about this one? — it isn’t a plain ‘ole crème color; the shimmer makes it special. This was two coats:

Golf Pro, a muted medium dusty green with light blue and green shimmer, also has black flecks of glitter, which are kind of a BB Couture specialty. They add black glitter flecks to a lot of their polishes, and they really are the only ones who do it. I think it gives their colors extra dimension. I love Golf Pro. It’s so unique, flattering and very opaque. This was two coats:

Cowboy is a deep taupe with very subtle silver shimmer. Taupe is HOT right now, and nearly every brand of polish has at least one product in taupe. It happens to be one of my favorite nail colors because of how edgy and flattering it is, but what makes Cowboy unique is its shimmer, as most of the taupes out there now have crème formulas. This was two coats:

Coal Miner, a greyed-out purple/taupe with pink, blue and green shimmer, has a bit of a duochrome effect. I think it’s just stunning and very unique. Depending on the lighting and where you move your hands, it can look like a different color from moment to moment. This was two coats:

Mariner is a dark forest green with heavy silver shimmer, and it’s almost what I’d call a frost finish, but not frost in that horrible ’80s way. It’s yet another gorgeous green I’m glad to add to my ever-growing collection! As with most frost/metallic type finishes, this one tends to streak a little more than a normal polish. A good way to cut down on the streaks is to apply it in thin, even coats. This was two coats, but it’s so opaque that you could also use one:

Bullfighter is a bright, cool cherry red with light red shimmer, and the formula is a little like a jelly polish. I’m not normally that into reds because of how many are already out there, but Bullfighter’s a very pretty one. This was two coats:

So what do you guys think about BB Couture? Are you sold?

There’s a pile of pretty polish in this collection – BB Couture always stuns me with their unusual shades and this is no exception!

Although I am not a fan of nail polish, but I am WOWed by the shades.

I particularly like Blue Collar, reminds me of the clear blue sky outside my window right now. 🙂

But i better not let my little girl see this, as she is crazy over nail polishes! Hah!

I’ve always been so jealous of people with neat cuticles and a steady hand. I can work crazy eye and lip colour like I was born covered in pigment, but I can’t paint nails to save my life.
Splendid colours, thanks for the post.

Fun! I tend to play it pretty safe with nail colors, but I really like Coal Miner.

Great colors! I had a good chuckle imagining the namesakes in their shades too. That would be one fancy coal miner!

    Fab post Kelly!

Hey Kelly – I’ve seen taupe nail varnish in loads of magazines for spring/summer and I haven’t been convinced. Cowboy looks like it has a bit of shimmer to it to stop it looking flat is that right?

Hi Annabella – Yup, it has a very slight silver shimmer, which does make it unique to other taupes. It’s gorgeous!

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
