I sincerely want to know what you’re doing with your life that could require you to have your brow product last for two days straight. Like…how? Why? I don’t even know. I can’t imagine. Two days! That’s how long these new Maybelline Tattoo Studio Waterproof Brow Gels ($9.99 are supposed to last on your brows.
They are long lasting; I’ll give ’em that. I only wore Medium Brown for a day, but I did sweat my way through life and went for a run on the treadmill, and it stayed put just fine.
Thing is…these are kind of hard to use. They come in tubes with a teeny, tiny doe foot, and the instructions on the box suggest bringing the doe foot directly to your brow, starting at the midpoint and going to the ends, then filling in the front before taking the separate spoolie (which comes with the gel), and brushing the gel through.

The look is lush and full, and the hold is super soft, so no crunchy brows (yay), but the resulting brow looks like more like a solid block of color than a brow comprised of individual brown hairs.
So the look isn’t really my style, but if you’re into that packed, full, dense high-glam brow, this might work for you.
I have a hard time applying this product… The doe foot deposits too much color, much too quickly for me, and I always end up with overly dramatic, overly dark brows. It’s way too easy to go buck wild with it, and I just can’t see myself, ya know, trying to do 10-minute makeup and successfully pulling it off with this brow product.
Also, I’m fairly certain I’m going to lose the spoolie within a couple days…

I would probably like Maybelline Tattoo Studio Waterproof Brow Gel a little more if it were easier to use, but props for the mad wear time. Oh, and props for — and I can’t forget about this because it’s a sweet touch — the colors, which are all cool and ashy, and I prefer ashy tones more than warm tones in my brows (lest they look too red and kinda weird).
They’re $9.99 each and available at drugstores, Target and Ulta right now in Blonde, Soft Brown, Medium Brown and Deep Brown.

Maybe if you´d go on a hike and wouldn´t want anyone to see you without your brows on at the glacier or something like that?
I remember I had a lash perm once before I went hiking for eight days, so I could skip mascara.

Ha!
Are there any drugstore brow products you’ve been enjoying lately…? I’ve been using the Maybelline Browprecise fiber volumizer for a little while – it’s okay, but not my favorite. The application is pretty finicky, and it’s hard to fill in any sparse areas (for me, at least). Just curious if you’ve stumbled across something fab that I’ve missed!
I’m prolly gonna hold out for the Laura Mercier Brow Dimension stuff you raved about, in all honesty 🙂 haha. That stuff sounds like the business!
Hi Shannon,
I’ve tried this one and the new one by Physicians Formula and even though I love drugstore makeup I think the Hourglass Brow Gel has ruined me for all other brow gels! It really is the best one. If I find a great drugstore pencil or gel I will let you know, for sure.
As I suspected, lol! Thanks.
I was thinking it would be the type that could somehow last through a face washing, which it clearly isn’t. Weird marketing to be sure. I think Wunderbrow is the same idea though I don’t know if that actually lasts through washing any better. Also, this one is seriously hard to use. Your result looks way more natural than what I usually get. Not sure why they didn’t just do either a brush or a spoolie. The fluffy doe foot just gloops it on. I’ve considered just using an eyebrow brush to apply it but then I might as well be using Dipbrow which also lasts well through my sweaty eyebrow issues.

*deep sigh* As per usual, Auburn is an afterthought for Maybelline’s brow products
Hi Sarah,
If you have room in your budget for the Hourglass one you should give it a go. They have an Auburn shade, and the product itself is great!
Karen – This is the best Maybelline product I ever purchased ! My micro bladed brows are starting to fade so I thought Id try it !
and for the price since some High end products are like $24 not overwhelming but for $8 you can’t beat it !
Hi Michele,
I’m happy to hear this works for you! What color do you use?
Oh, boy. I’m with you on that. I’m pretty terrible with anything that’s not a pencil. You should have seen the Uncle Leo brows I had with Benefit KaBrow. I had to laugh (and then wash it off). Gel on a doe foot sounds like a recipe for failure, too. HAHA! I agree with you that being on the ashy side is generally better. The medium brown in your pics looks a bit purple to me, though. Could be my monitor.
So the doe foot is CRAY. And for some reason I can see myself accidentally applying it to my lips, LOL!
I think I would start at my brows and it would end up on my lips by the time I was done! 🙂
Hmmm, indeed strange that it’s a doe foot and a spoolie both! I already know I wouldn’t like the doe foot applicator. I think with any brand of brow product that would be really tough to get the right amount of product. I like just brushing some color into my brows, I don’t like painting it on! It’s just too much. I guess it works for ladies who like the full on glam brow. To each their own. I wonder if you’ve seen/tried any of Sephora’s new formulas? They have a few variations, and I’m curious about them. I have the brow builder, and it’s actually quite good quality. I would love it 100 times over if it weren’t that it deposits too much color on the applicator and thus onto my brows. They also have a bunch of colors, and not ashy and even like three shades of blonde! Which is awesome, the medium blonde is my freaking perfect brow color. I have never found that before.
P.S. Totes laughed at that, I agree. 2 days of brows?! Who what why… just how?! ?
Hi Miki,
The last thing I saw new in Sephora Collection was the skin tint! I have it on my wish list. I wasn’t aware of the brow products so thanks for letting me know. 🙂 I’ll check it out next time I go!
I’ve been using this, and yeah, that application is hard to use. I have to be very careful not to get any on my skin and then use the spoolie brush to get it toned down but once it’s on it stays put and I like how it looks. Why didn’t they just put a spoolie brush in the tube like a mascara brush? That would make it easier to apply.
I know, right?! I was just thinking the same thing. I appreciate the out-of-the-box thinking but it’s just so hard to use.
I think this would have been more successful maybe if they’d put it in a pot and gave you a thin angled brush. Kind of like ABH but their own version u know ?
Is it possible to do that with this ? Just taking an angled brush and using it ?
Hi Virginia,
Or perhaps they could replace the doe foot with an old-fashioned spoolie type applicator? I dunno. I suppose you could put it in a pot but it would take a while to transfer what’s in the tube. Also I’m not sure how quickly it would dry out, as the product feels quite runny.
What are you currently using on your brows? I’ve been all about the gel that Hourglass launched earlier in the spring. It’s SO good!
A doe foot? Why didn’t they just use a spoolie type applicator? The colors do like nice though. I’m with you, I like a cool toned brow.
Hi Tatiana,
I’ve tried warm-toned browns and there’s something about them looks funky on me. Gimme a cool-toned ashy brown any day!
Are you still liking the Hourglass gel?
Yeah, I’m still loving the Hourglass brow gel, despite it’s price. It’s just so easy to use and so perfect. I think I might have gotten too dark of a color, but I still love it. Might try the clear to use with a pencil next time.
I’m glad you like it! I’ve tried the clear one with a pencil and it’s just OK. I think the magic is in the fibers! The clear one is fiber-less, I believe.
Hi Karen, tattoo-like gel brow products are kinda big in Asia, so I guess Maybelline is going for that crowd. Are these waterproof? Because if yes, then maybe overnight swimming could be an activity where you would need two-day old brows, without having to retouch.
Sorry, I meant, are these really waterproof, like what they claim?
What a timely post! I ran out of my Anastasia eyebrow pencil and was looking at gels. What color do you get in the Hourglass? You’ve piqued my interest.

Sounds like a total miss. And what is up with that blonde color?! Why is it so hard for companies to come up with actual blonde shades for brow products?
Hi Kristen,
It’s not just blondes; a lot of the time the darker shades are wonky too! I often end up with brows that are either too dark or too red. I think it might be because there’s just so much variation with hair color that they try to do shades that will work with most people, but end up with a selection in reality only works for a handful of brow colors.
HMMM i’m still curious to try it with a different brush for application.
like a brow brush and spoolie combo that you would regularly use for a brow gel (think ABH Dipbrow)…has anyone tried it this way?
seems like you would get a more precise application! yeah you would probably have some trouble pickup up the product but maybe u can just get it from the doe foot applicator, not directly from the tube?
