Makeup Shortcuts: Metallic Lipstick Doubles as a Cream Highlighter

May 8th, 2017 by Karen 10 Comments

Yup, that’s lipstick

You’ve probably heard of the lipstick-as-blush trick, but did ya know that you can use a metallic lipstick as a cream highlighter?

Yeah! You totes can. And since metallic lips are having a moment, you might have a tube of metallic lipstick sitting around. If you do, you can apply a little to your upper cheekbones, or anywhere on your face that you want to highlight, and blend the edges with a brush, sponge or finger.

Blend it!

Sometimes I’ll run a finger across the top of my metallic lippie a few times, then gently dab that on my upper cheekbones (gently so I don’t disrupt my bronzer/blush/foundation).

Or sometimes I’ll g-e-n-t-l-y dab the tube directly on my skin, but when I do that…no matter how careful I am, there’s still a higher chance of accidentally shifting whatever makeup I’m wearing under it.

This shortcut works particularly well with gold, rose gold and silver metallics! Try it sometime when you’re in the mood for a glossy cheek highlight.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Hope you had a fantabulous Monday. What was the highlight?

Haha! Get it?? Highlight? I know, so dumb. 🙂

That lipstick looks a lot like “Bronzilla” by MAC. I think I have that somewhere and that it would be an awesome highlight.

That’s a fabulous idea! Will try that, I need to dig out a metallic lipstick, not sure I have many though.
My Monday highlight? Well, I’m in Greece now for a couple of weeks and spending time at home, so that’s making me happy ? x

What colour is that MAC lipstick? I think it looks “Digging for Gold.”

    Hi Karen:
I too, love the Trader Joe’s flyer. What lipstick are you wearing, it’s a light pink in the picture with the lipstick as highlighter? It’s very nice, the whole look is quite nice.
Your girl is getting big! So adorable!

      Hi Ilene,

I know, she’s officially 14 months, which to me is crazy! I don’t know how the time flew by so fast.

Anywho, the lipstick is a favorite of mine. It’s Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Creator! Let me know if you have any other Qs. 🙂

I bought Digging for Gold, I’ll have to try this! I’d love to try it while wearing it on the lips too for kind of a monochromatic look.

That’s such a smart trick! I’m not a fun of metallic lippies, so when the trends will be out, I’m going to reuse them in this way for sure!!!
    😉

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
