What’s Been Your Least Favorite Recent MAC Collection?

June 1st, 2009 by Karen 18 Comments

mac-cosmetics-poll-2009

June means we’re almost halfway through 2009 ALREADY! Can you believe it? Halfway through ALREADY!?

MAC’s sure been busy, haven’t they? Some of their recent collections totally curled my toes (Brunette Blonde Redhead, holla!), but a few left me uninspired (*ahem*, Grand Duos).

They’re still batting a good game though. I’m a MAC junkie at heart, so I (usually) don’t mind how fast they crank out new products.

Refresher course on MAC’s 2009 releases so far…

  • January: Brunette Blonde Redhead
  • February: Creme Team, Well Defined, Hello Kitty
  • March: Kitty Kouture, Grand Duos, Viva Glam VI Special Edition, Sugarsweet
  • April: Colour Ready, A Rose Romance, Double Dazzle
  • May: Style Warriors
  • June: Naked Honey (arrives next week)

What's been your least favorite recent MAC collection?

I don’t really like Style Warrior to much, or Grand Duos.
I ♥ A Rose Romance and Sugarsweet tho.
I wish I had purchased more of it.

I got a blush from Grand Duo, it was way way way too dicso ball shimmery…But it looks pretty on the pan so I might as well just keep it…

      Hi Citrine,

That was my issue with them, too. What brush are you using to apply? I’ve heard the skunk bush works pretty well.

I had to say Grand Duos (since I didn’t even remember it), but nothing else this year has blown me away as much as BBR! I’m looking forward to the big Fall release… can they follow up Cult of Cherry? We shall see! 🙂

P.S. I am so ready for some sunny weather! Argh!

      Hi Glosslizard,

I know! I’m so over the cold weather.

Cult of Cherry is gonna be a hard one to top. Gah, remember Smoke Signals from the year before? I LOVED that release…

    Karen,
I don’t like to be Debbie Downer but none have the collections have impressed me much. I’ve liked bits from each but nothing has really BLOWN me away. I’m SUPER excited for Baby Bloom because I really want a tinted moisturizer. Plus from what I’ve seen and read the lippies will probably be like tendertones but in tubes! Yeah!!

      Hi Tania,

Yeah, I hear ya. I think the last collections I went nuts for were BBR and Cult of Cherry… Red She Said was also a good one for me, too.

      Baby Bloom looks exciting. 🙂

      Hi Victoria,

Yeah… it’s been awhile since I’ve really fallen for a collection. I am looking forward to Naked Honey, though…

Style Warrior let me down the most. I was very much looking forward to it and none of the colors were flattering enough to inspire a purchase. I can definitely see the colors from Naked Honey working better for me, so I’m very excited to see it released.

I have to say my one regret was not taking more advantage of BBR, those colors DID work for me, but for some reason I just didn’t buy from it. In fact, the only purchase I’ve made from a collection this year has been a lip balm pot from Hello Kitty.

      Hi Elena,

BBR was a surprise for me; I didn’t expect it to rock my boat so much but it did. I’m really looking forward to Naked Honey, too!

      Hi Wendy,

It seems like Style Warrior was either hit or miss for most people. I’m glad you loved it, though! The packaging is to die for.

There is usually something in every collection that makes me go “ooo, I want/need that!”. Style Warrior did not do that for me which is probably good because 3-4 collections over February, March and April all but cleaned me out!!

In all honesty, I haven’t seen anything from MAC this year that really got me excited. I wanted some of the Hello Kitty items but decided to hold back since what I really liked was the packaging (I’m a child of the 80s, what can I say) and not really the shades. I feel the same way about Style Warrior. Great packaging, mediocre shades. I voted for A Rose Romance because even though I can pull off some cool shades, none of these appealed to me at all. I guess this is good since I no longer have the income to drop cash on MAC like like it’s burning a hole in my wallet. Then again, the Naked Honey collection is looking mighty tempting…

    Hi Karen,

You mentioned in one of your replies above that MAC will be coming out with a tinted moisturizer as part of their Baby Bloom collection. If you can, I would be really interested in seeing a post on tinted moisturizers. Of all the different makeup items out there, they are perhaps the one item that befuddles me. Are they moisturizer? Are they light foundation? Do you still use a primer? Do you skip your regular moisturizer underneath? It just seems strange to me to apply color to my face without using moisturizer first. I got a sample of Stila Sheer Color tinted moisturizer and it feels and looks a lot like foundation to me. It would be great if you could write about them, maybe mention your favorites, how you use them, etc. If not, I understand, but if you can that would be wonderful. Thanks! 🙂
