Two Ways to Win MAC Smolder Eye Kohl and Greetings from California

October 17th, 2009 by Karen 151 Comments

mac-smolder-pencil-top

The eagle has landed, ladies! I’m back at home in Cali, eating chips for dinner and chatting with Tabs (he says hi, BTW).

I just saw myself in the mirror, and I look a fright! — kinda like how I used to look back when I was first trying to do smokey eyes.

That reminds me of something MAC VP of Makeup Artistry Gordon Espinet told me about MAC Smolder Eye Kohl. He described a way to use it to create a really easy smokey eye.

Smolder’s a creamy black (one of my favorite smokey eye products), perfect for classic black versions of the look or goofy twists like this Halloween one here.

As part of MAC’s permanent line, it’s been easy to find for a while, but they decided to re-promote it with Style Black.

Hmm… Feels like time for a giveaway!

The prize

One lucky lady will receive a tube of MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder from the Style Black Collection (a $14.50 value).

I’ve used Smolder quite a few times to finish off a smokey eye. My go-to smokey eye is using Blanc Type for a highlighter, Satin Taupe all over the lid and blended up above crease, then Carbon in the crease. Add some Smolder on both upper & lower lashes. Then a bit of Platinum piggy at the tearduct and the inner third of lower lashline.

Ah, yes & also I love *Smolder*. I find myself using it quite often for both casual & nighttime looks. I have brown eyes so black isn’t too dramatic on me, anyway. I usually put it on the outter corners of my top/bottom waterline to kinda draw more attention to my eyes. Ha! You really love that Club es dontcha 🙂

I love smolder! I would love to win one to replace the one that’s almost gone in my stash. How I use it: I tightline the upper lash line, line my lower water line, and then line the top lids and wing it out a little for a smokey cat eye. Then I take a pointy tip q-tip and lightly smudge the upper and lower lashlines. I use this look with any color eyeshadow to make a smokier eye.

I’ve worn Smolder as a base for metallic shadows or just by lining my lash & water lines & smudging it for a quick smokey eye look. Definitely a good all purpose liner!

I love eyeliner so I’ll line both my top and bottom lids with lots and lots of smolder eyeliner 🙂 and maybe smudge it with Carbon shadow for a smokey effect.

I love Smolder. I use it everyday, tightline upper lid and put a little as a liner and smudge. It is so soft so it takes time to get a hang of it. If you are not used to using such a soft kohl bear with it, grows on you. Makes great base, you can do a mokey just with this pencil.

ooh i have had this eye kohl in the past but sadly misplaced it 🙁 its creamy, amazing application is great for smudging for a smokey eye (only on my upper lashline) and i love how the black lip glasses were used with it on the eyes in the style black collection. that would create a really dramatic night look which i would loooove 🙂

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
